I wrote a review for the 1942 movie Yankee Doodle Dandy that I'm planning on using for my YouTube channel but I don't know if it's any good.
I've always loved movies and will make excuses to watch them so I decided to make my hobby useful by starting a YouTube channel. I just wrote a rough draft review for Yankee Doodle Dandy that I need advice on. If you could read my review and give me your thoughts you're the best.
Before you read, just know that I've watched movie twice and plan to watch it more. Also the reason it's so short is because I only want the review to be 2 minutes. Remember this is a rough draft.
P.s: I'll most likely be here again for advice, and help through my journey.
Review
If I had to give Yankee Doodle Dandy a reward it would definitely be for most patriotic movie of all time. Half the songs in this movie are about how great America is. One literally just praises the flag. I have nothing wrong with the patriotism but I know that some people don't share the same love for America. So if you're not too fond of the USA especially it's history than you might want to skip this movie. Half of the movie is singing and dancing, and it's quite entertaining. I have a soft spot for musicals so I'm a little biased but most of the songs in this movie just make you feel Jolly and give you a warm feeling. I'm especially fond of Mary and Over there. They just boost your spirits. Most of the movie feels like a Broadway play brought to the screen, and the songs never get in the way of the story. In fact they compliment the story of George M. Cohan nicely. the music being good is one thing, but what about the choreography and the cinematography? How does it look? It looks great and it's just a blast to watch. Everyone on stage feels so energetic and charismatic. Although most of this movie is joyful, there are some emotional and heart punching scenes. I never really cry during death scenes in movies but the death of George M. Cohan's father did make me a tear up a little. A huge reason for that is James Cagney. James did such a great job and plays the role of George Cohan with so much enthusiasm, charm, and heart. I also want to give credit to Douglass Croft who played the younger version of George M. Cohan. He seemed exactly like a younger version of George without feeling like he's mocking James Cagney. The best part of this movie is definitely the actors. There is not a single character in this movie that I loathe. Everyone from George M. Cohan to his father, sister, wife, and business partner Sam H. Harris are likable and enjoyable to watch. A huge reason for that is actors along with the writing. The dialogue is fast, and quippy and never feels like a waste of words. I wouldn't view this movie as biographic. More as a tribute, and a good tribute. I would like to remind you that this movie was made in 1942 and things weren't so PC back then. Most of the movie isn't offensive but there is one scene with Blackface. So beware. Other than that the movie is fantastic and I highly recommend Yankee Doodle Dandy.
