One of my old Mononoke theoriez
Some Mononoke things I noticed >-<
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The medicine sellar has many things that hint at him being Ainu/ being designed after the Ainu people; his lip makeup is similar to the lip makeup worn by Ainu women (slightly upturned to a smile), a circular chunky pendant is worn by the medicine sellar and a large portion of Ainu people that I can see in photos, and he also has a scarf tied around his head.
Some could also argue that his clothing patterns are similar to clothing worn by the Ainu people. This is all just speculation, tho- plus I don't know much about the Ainu culture, so I'm not quite sure.
Basically, I think the medicine sellar is Ainu/Ainu inspired ^_^ if u see anything else that points to this PLEASE TELL ME I'M OBSESSED W/ THIS THEORY

Not Mononoke related but I old hxh post!!!
I saw a trans person who didn't like the kurapika is trans headcannon because of how feminine he is, which is fair and in his right, but let me explain why I like it:
Personally I'm a pretty feminine trans man, and I would like to cross dress and be a drag queen one day. I also want to be perceived as masculine and look very physically masculine.
Kurapika is a powerful character who is androgynous in appearance and has pretended to be a women before in the series with full confidence. He's powerful and strong and traditionally "masculine" while also haveing feminine clothing and appearance.
He doesn't feel like a stereotype, he feels really unique and I appreciate him for that. He looks like me as well (short, medium length hair, blonde) an I can just relate to him easily.
I want to see more trans men who are aloud to be feminine in media. I keep on seeing cis feminine men, and I wish to see more of that in trans men as well without them being fetishized. I also like kurapika because he's never sexualized, and when he is shown in the nude (short scene from 1999 hxh) they don't show his chest or genitals. He doesn't feel sexualized in that scene.
Kurapika is so amazing because of his androgyny and his calmness to correcting people on his gender, his "dont let appearances fool you" line hit me personally so hard, it was like saying "just because I look and dress a certain way doesn't tell you anything about me" and that's what I aspire to be.
It's also that fact that Togashi has trans characters done in respectful and Newonced ways that gives me hope that kurapika could realisticly be transgender.
Also you can NOT tell me this cover isn't trans coded:
Tumblr media
In this cover, he is nude but not shown sexually and his chest is not shown. He looks powerful in his facial expression as if he's powering through some hardship while his arm is tightly woven in chains, like something is keeping him trapped and tethered.
his expression, though strong, is also weary. He is tired. He is tired from putting his whole self into vengeance, just as many trans people are tired from trying to be the person society wants them to be.
He is also looking straight at the viewer, almost like he's asking for help. Help for what, I don't know, but this is also similar to how trans people look to society for approval.
He is also scratching his own chest, which could represent how a lot of trans people want to tear out of there body. This also represents how angry kurapika is at his body, and not just in a transgender way.
His body, despite all he put into his strength and abilities, still cannot defeat the Phantom Troup. He put his heart and soul into that goal. The one purpose he gave his own body cannot be fullfiled, which could represent how trans people put their heart and soul into passing even though society will never truely allow them the peace of letting their body serve the purpose that they themselves give it.
Kurapikas life is also dictated by the Phantom Troup, whether he knows it or not. If the Phantom Troup goes somewhere, he will most likely follow. He is enamored with them, he is obsessed with them and his hate for them, just as trans people are enamored with there own body.
We want a different body, and some of us even hate our bodies, but they dictate us and who we are, whether we what them to or not.
Even when kurapika kills the Phantom Troup, they will still be in the back of his mind. Even when trans people go through physical and social transitions, the thoughts of how we were percied and how our bodies once were is still lingering in the back of our thoughts.
But yeah, I headcannon kurapika as trans and I love him <3

Alright, sharing Mononoke info+giving theories
okay so it recently came out that the medicine sellars "hyper forms" are separate entities from Kon and Kusuriuri, and are called the Divine Ritual of Ri and Divine Ritual of Kon (formarly known as shingi.) these are separate beings with speorate forms, despite looking simalier. The official Mononoke wiki has them labeled as kami, buy personally I think they are kamuy due to how the appearance of both medicine sellars and Divine Rituals (who I'll be calling Ri and Shingi from here on out) are simalier in dress and tattooing as the Ainu people.
Kamuy are Ainu mythological spirits that are said to reside in objects (both natural and man made.)
I've made a completely other post on why both Kon and Kusuriuri are most likely Ainu (at least in inspiration) so check that out bc that's a LOT to write. Also, supposedly, reside in a different realm.
I think that this other realm could be the Ainu afterlife. With the research I've done, the belief is that to respect the Kamuy and the afterlife you must leave offerings. I'm still doing research on this, but I think that the "form, truth, and reason" needed to summon Ri and Shingi are some form of offering, but Im not Ainu myself and need to do proper research.
Along with that, the main difference I've seen (as someone who has only done some research and is not appart of either enthic group or religion) kami seem to be more focused on spirits outside of inanimate objects and more do landscape, though there are still many kami stories relating to kami being in inanimate objects and, once again, I have a lot of research I need to do on this topic. If I'm wrong on any facts here, please correct me.
Anyway yeah, I'm thinking a lot about this. Have a nice dayyyy

Reasons why the medicine sellar (Kusuriuri) is most likely non binary/genderless/trans:
1. He is most likely some form of kistune, due to his fangs, ears, immortality, and the fact that his "hyper form" (I personally believe that his hyper form is a separate being called a Kamuy) turns gold, similar to a legend in which a Kistune turns gold when it reaches a certain age. Kitsunes are often depicted switching genders/being genderless, so it's possible Kusuriuri is the same.
2. He wears an obi (traditionally feminine) but has a masculine robe underneath
3. His lip makeup/tattoo is very similar to the kind Ainu women wear (seepictur below)
Tumblr media
And wears a head garment similar to that worn by the Ainu people, along with a circular necklace (see below)
Tumblr media
Along with that, usually Ainu women would have their face tattood while they were young and it would slowly be mad larger, so it would make since that Kusuriuri got the start of one but for some reason this tattoo could not be finished. This could possiblely lead to them being Non Binary, transgender, or just all around genderless.
4. Non binary people are baddies and so is Kusuriuri
Anyway bye

I really like the idea of the song Bernadette by IAMX not being about a lover or a person your enamored with, but instead a goal or skill. I love the idea of a character being so obsessed with a inhuman thing. Kinda like Kurapika, an him being upsessed with collecting his clans eyes

Alright so I'm thinking about making a Mononoke fanfic but where their in the modern era and they have to deal with stupid ahhh modern Mononoke, right now in planing the first chapter to be about a Mononoke in a high school. But also I'll probably work on this over summer so in a few weeks when I get inspo, my friend said she'll proof read but she's never watched Mononoke. Is anyone willing to be my proof reader? If you are, just comment on this post and I'll sort it out when the first fanfic chapter is done (but also keep in mind that might be a while)

One thing I've never liked about Naruto (as a HUGE Naruto fan) is that Sakura and Sasuke married. This is for multiple reasons, but the main one is that Sakura dating Rock Lee would fit the themes of the story so much better.
Throughout Naruto, the show has themes of "working hard for your goals." Naruto needs to work hard to be hokage, Sasuke has to work hard to avenge his clan (and major part on why joining Orochimaru to do that didn't work was because it implied that Sasuke, in that sense, didn't really work for it), Rock Lee has to work hard to overcome his struggles with useing ninjutsu, ext. Hell, even Neji needs to work hard to change his attitude about Naruto.
Rock Lee, throughout the story, worked hard to have a relationship with Sakura. He even changes throughout the story; getting less pushy and he learns to get to know her. He saves her and works hard to win her over.
What I think Togashi was trying to do with Sakura and Sasuke dating was to show Sakura working hard to be in a relationship with him, but in the end that doesn't work because Sasuke doesn't really put hard work back into the relationship and he shows little signs (especially outside of the manga) that he cares for her, let alone puts effort into their marriage.
On the other hand, you can see Sakura slowly get won over by Rock Lee's efforts. She feels less uncomfortable around him and at one point prioritizes him a long with Sasuke (her getting both of them a flower when they were injured). They just have more chemistry.
Also, I feel like Togashi could have used there relationship to push another theme; sometimes your goals change, even when you work hard for them. That could have showed how, even though Sakura put in effort, sometimes what you wanted wasn't best for you and you can be just as full filled by other things in life.
But anyway yeah, Rock Lee x Sakura is peak (or RockFlower as I've been calling it)

Is it just me or does Sallie Mae feel super fetishized in all of the merch?
I know vivziepop is known for putting all of her characters in sexual scenarios, (and don't get me wrong, she absolutely sucks) but Sallie Mae feels like her transness is put on the forefront of all of her merch.
I've seen sexualized trans people done in a way that doesn't feel fetishized (Grell from black butler is a good example, though most of the sexualization of her is in fanart) an I don't get the same weird feeling from it.
I think it might be because all of the images have her in poses that explicitly showcase her trans features, but I've seen this done in a non fetishized way as well- it might also be because she's the only side character that gets merch like this.
With glitz and glam (side characters) it's also done in a fetishized way, so I think they are putting these side characters in taboo and fetishizey positions because they know it will get more sells. It just makes me really sad as a trans person, I'm so tired of being fetishized in media. Also Sallie Mae is my fav character.
