Randy Morgan RIP 8/5/2019 When i met Randy Morgan at his sons high school graduation party, i knew right away he could play guitar. He never once picked his guitar up in front of me that day. It was how he held himself, confident but not cocky. His guitar was as old as I. We talked because ann evans insisted we talk and jam and she was right. I walked away from that graduation party knowing I’d be playing with Randy soon. 13 years later we were still playing guitars together. In fact we just recorded a song for his 50th high school reunion June 2019 Randy is my rock, my place to be safe, my always there for me friend. I can never remember Randy turning me down on a jam. Randy gave me strength, taught me bass theory. Randy is funny and bizarre. He had 12 years on me and i had nothing on him. He saw my weirdness and raised me a joker or two. He took my lyrical impov and out did me. He made me laugh and yes he even offended me! If you know me, know my past, the butcher days, the punk rock haze, you’d think how the hell did he offend Jeff? It is Because: he was better at everything, smarter, worked longer, reached farther, accomplished-more, gave more, took less. Randy was humbling me not schooling me. Never once did he belittle me, always he lifted me up, up and up again. We went through many bands, singers and a few drummers until we met big Al Gouveia. The three of us were inseparable until big Als passed a few years back. On Als death bed he named our trio the “3 old bastards.” We were down to two and now just one. Monday morning my phone rang, it was randys motorcycle ring, i answered hi randy, but it wasn’t Randy it was Chris, Randy’s coworker he told me that Randy had passed. I just yelled FUCK a few times and then asked is this real? It was! I was Shocked, i just texted to him yesterday and he replied. Randy is my buddy, my real true friend, a musician who knows me. We spoke in funny songs, our songs that only he and I understood. Many of the bands came and went but we always stayed together. Two different singers tried to separate us, a drummer tried to divide us, our language was too strong for the bond to be broken. Once in a life time friendship!
