Sie stehen heraus und ermöglichen ein Blickfeld von 342 Grad.⁣ ⁣ Die Schleuderzunge der Chamäleons kann die eineinhalbfache Länge des Körpers erreichen. Die Zunge ist im Mund nicht aufgerollt, sondern ähnlich einem Gummiband schlapp und zusammengezogen. Mittels der Muskulatur am Zungenbein wird die Zunge angespannt und kann innerhalb einer Zehntelsekunde aus dem Mund zum Opfer geschleudert werden. An der verdickten Zungenspitze zieht sich beim Auftreffen blitzartig ein Muskel zusammen und erzeugt einen kegelförmigen Hohlraum, wodurch ein Luftsog entsteht und die Beute herangesogen wird.
