A sort of unladylike snort burst from Lilith’s lips as Alexander spoke upon her sure attraction after dancing with him. No man, watching Lilith be courted or not, would want her at this age. She was out of leading strings and considered to be an almost spinster given her attitude toward the subject and idea of marriage yet her family still very much hoped that she would be married off. Hell with an almost eight figure dowry, they were sure this season would be Lilith’s very best. Shaking her head lightly towards him, the female sighed as she felt them part once again. “Attention is far from what I want but your efforts are appreciated.” As the music came to a stop and couples departed Lilith found herself bunching the hem of her dress in her hand as she stepped back her head bowing lightly in thanks. 

“I pray you of all in this town can keep your secrets from Lady S. It seems she has already preyed upon my family name, nonetheless reported it to the ton without a glimmer of hesitance. I hope your plans work, surely as friends you know I am always around for discussion should you need it.” Her tongue swept out across her bottom lip as she glanced back to her mama who was still staring with a glass rather tight within her grip alongside her father who was now crossing his arms. Stepping back and further away from Alexander, the female gave a hesitant smile as she curtsied once more. “Please enjoy your night Your Grace. Hopefully my family's amenities shall make your time a bit more bearable.”  Hearing the clearing of her mothers throat, Lilith turned giving a single smile back to Alexander as she walked toward her parents.

She had not expected him to offer her dance as it normally was reserved for men and women who appeared to be courting but when he pulled upon her hand leading her out onto the dancefloor, the lady found herself lost for a moment as it had been ages since she had danced in front of others. Women of the town whispered lowly about her believing truly that the low volume of their voices would hide the collective gossip. She knew of her recent name publishment in the Lady S secrets announcement, her mother had all but thrown their offer to host the first ball of the season as to show they were anything but lacking in money. Though that may be currently true it was once not and now everyone in town knew of it, Her eyes gazed over the women glaring her way as Alexander turned her in his hands and she gracefully moved with his every step.

Heat rushed to her cheeks causing the soft chocolate of her skin to brighten with a red undertone as she looked down to gain her wits about her. His question rang in her ear causing her eyes to rise from the floor and fall upon his own as she felt her hand grasp his slightly tighter as she looked out into the crowd for her mama’s watchful eyes. Seeing her staring down upon the duo, Lilith swallowed softly. “I am sure she would be happy if she knew that you and I didn’t have the same mindset. She wants me married off and knows my attitude is a major hindrance whilst you in all these years have still not chosen a bride.” A twirl led to her dipping back into his arms, a few strands of her unruly curly hair coming undone and framing her face as she stood and smiled up at him to conceal her laughter. “To be rid of the drama of the season would be a dream, yet it seems neither of us are afforded that luxury.” Silently her teeth bit into her bottom lip, a habit her mother would surely chew her out for later this evening. “What are your plans exactly? To avoid the mama’s that shall throw their daughter at you this season?” she asked, her eyebrow-raising in question. “My father shall surely marry me off to a man thrice my age at the end of the season should I not secure any suitors and as a lady I am not afforded the luxury of denying them all. I shall have marry eventually but what about you? Shall you remain a bachelor forever?”

Alexander could feel some of the glares boring into his back as he moved around the dancefloor. There simply wasn’t enough time to dance with every young lady who desired it from him and even though he loved to amuse himself during the season, he certainly didn’t want to lead anyone on and make them think he had any sort of intentions when he didn’t. There were a lot of girls foolish enough to believe that one dance meant a proposal was forthcoming and he didn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up just to crush them which was why he intended to avoid the younger and over eager girls.

He mulled over her questions as he truly had not given them much thought. He enjoyed the bachelor lifestyle and as a man, he could keep such a thing going for as long as he wanted. Despite the pressure from his mother and the rest of society, there was no great rush for him to marry like there was with the women. He had courted before, but never with the intention of marrying, and if one of the girls he was interested in had another suitor who truly desired her then Alexander had stepped back to allow the girl to achieve her dreams of marriage with someone since it could not be him. “You will find plenty of suitors, I am sure. You’re currently dancing with me, one of the most eligible bachelors in town, so that is sure to get some attention on you.” As for his plans for the season, he thought of the deal he had struck, but he could not reveal such a plan to anyone, not even Lilith. “Let’s just say I already have an idea in mind of what I want to achieve this season, but it’s incredibly secret. I can’t risk Lady S catching wind of it.”

“The same thing that causes us to wear corsets from sunrise to set and continually parade about these lavish events. Society. Our mamas have been trained this way as shall we til the dawn of time. Men simply reek more benefits than we do.” Lifting the glass to her lips, she knew her mama would be giving her a good talking later for a lady surely did not and Lilith was now on her third. Nails taped against the glass softly as she watched couples form and join the dance in progress alongside Juliet, her head tilting softly in boredom as she turned to the lady. “Have you had a drink yet? Surely it helps to ease some of the intensity of such theatrics.” Lifting her brow, the lady smiled as she licked her lips clearing them of any reminisce of the liquor she had managed to sneak.

People walked about enjoying the food and drinks her family supplied as the lady found herself nibbling on her bottom lip. Surely this many people couldn’t live in their town, she had sworn that at least twenty of the faces were new yet approaching her was one she had grown accustomed to. A small smile graced her lips as she bowed her head softly to Juliet, “Ah yes my boastful mamas way of surely snagging me an engagement I do not want, and how are you this evening Juliet?” She questioned her eyes drifting to the parade of men and women all about.

Juliet smiled wistfully, knowing exactly how she felt. Thankfully her own mother’s attentions were currently focused on finding her brother a wife, so she could avoid a marriage herself at least until he was married off. “Dodging the attentions of men old enough to be my grandfather,” Fortunately Lord Entwhistle seemed currently distracted by the vast spread of food. “I don’t know what it is about these older men who assume any woman unmarried at my age would be so desperate that she would chain herself to some disgusting warthog.”

It seemed as if she was not the only person in the room attempting to hide from multiple mamas as Alexander tucked himself perfectly by her side. She already knew she would never hear the end of it from her mother, the woman would talk her ear off to no end once she found out about the duke but he was her friend and much like her, he had no true intentions of marrying. “No I would say not. Bloodthirsty and eager to marry off their daughters, Mamas are not to be messed with during the season.” Lilith quipped, her hand raising to cover her own lips as she laughed as silently as she could into her palm. “You may however have a point. I’d love to.” She nodded, placing her hand in his as she gave him a mock curtsy with her head slightly bowed, standing the lady gently pulled upon his hand. “Ready for battle?”

The marriage market truly felt like a battlefield at times. The people seeking out a husband or wife were usually not even the worst part, it was dodging the ambitious mamas. There had been more than one occasion were he had successfully given the brush off to an eager young lady only for her mama to appear and suddenly he was being cajoled into more dances. Some of them even tried to manipulate him into being alone with their daughters, hoping to catch him doing something scandalous that would force him to marry her. “Let’s hope we survive to the other side of the war.” Leading her out onto the dancefloor, they joined the other couples waltzing with ease around the room. “Tell me, is your mother already watching us with excitement?”

If there was one thing Juliet loved about a ball, it was good food and drink and the De’Boux family had evidently not spared any expense. She was strolling around the perimeter of the room, avoiding the dance floor when she came upon one of the gracious hosts. “Lady Lilith,” She raised her wine glass to her, already a little bit tipsy. “This is divine, congratulations on what promises to be a very successful first ball of the season.”

Her teeth bit gently into her cheek as Lilith watched all the potential suitors and ladies dance about the floor. Surely she would have to join them soon but currently she hoped to get as far away from the prying gaze of overzealous mamas. A familiar face slowly gained her attention causing the slightest of smirks to rest upon her lips. “ I assure you your grace, I am just as prepared as you are.” Eyeing the looming mamas that seemed to gossip just loud enough for her to hear, Lilith cleared her throat as she motioned to the dance floor. “And shall you be joining the other flurry of suitors upon the dance floor this evening ? Fawning over this seasons diamond? ”

Alexander caught the direction of her gaze and had to suppress a groan at the sight of what seemed to be a swarm of social climbing mamas. How did they always manage to travel in packs? He could see a few beady eyes cast in their direction and he lowered his voice to a conspiratorial whisper. “They never give up, do they?”  Eyeing the dancefloor, Alexander offered her a gracious bow. “I am not aware of who this season’s diamond is, I rarely pay attention to such things. But I am happy to escort you onto the floor so we might escape their wagging tongues for a moment.”

Her teeth bit gently into her cheek as Lilith watched all the potential suitors and ladies dance about the floor. Surely she would have to join them soon but currently she hoped to get as far away from the prying gaze of overzealous mamas. He hated to admit it, but he was surprisingly finding this ball more fun than he had anticipated. Perhaps it was just because it was the first one of the season p a few more and he’d likely get tired of them. Joined on the edge of the floor by his host, Alexander looked to her with a grin. “Ready for another season, Lady Lilith?”

Irritation before Preparation

Location: Outside Madame Lacroix's Dress Shop

It had been a rather long morning for Lady Lilith considering her mama had dragged her out of bed before dawn hollering on about how she needed to help with the festivities the family had agreed to host. Had it been up to the young lady the event would happen far from her home but her mother’s obvious plan to find her suitors was in the works and heaven forbid she or her brothers interfere. The young lady lifted her eyes from the ground she had been casually dazing at upon her name being called. It didn’t take long for her to find her mama through the crowds of people promenading along the streets, the woman’s arms failing as she called over her daughter. A disapproved sigh fell from Lilith’s lips as she begrudgingly made her towards Madame Lacroix’s Dress Shop, her hands clasped behind her back as she felt her nails dig slightly into the fabric of her gloves. 

“Must I be fitted now, mama? Surely Madam Lacroix can take your measurements faster than mine and she already has your dress partly started. You go inside and I shall join you shortly, I must catch my breath out here before we enter.” Her mother’s irritation was apparent but the emotions lingered on the face of both females, Lilith had no qualms about new dresses and the likes when she knew other things were far more important. The sound of the door shutting behind her informed her of her mother’s entrance to the shop finally allowing her to take the deepest of breathes her corset would allow. People walked by, chatting and smiling with one another while the lady found herself leaning against the small gate outside the shop people watching with her own tiny grin upon her face. A familiar face broke through the sea causing Lilith to let out the lightest of laughs she gave a soft wave, her eyes darting between the familiar and her mother to assure she wasn’t being called once again. “Fancy seeing you out and about, I thought you to be a rather reclusive outside of balls.” she quipped her eyebrows raising slightly in tease.

Ladies and their naivete, Such the sight

Hello hello, I’m Baby (or Zari if you prefer). I’m twenty-two years old at the moment (which is such a stupid age let’s be honest) and living in the lovey large state of Texas although originally I am from California, this means I live in the CST time zone. I’ll be playing Lady Lilith De’Boux who is the eldest daughter of the De’Boux family and considered to be the black sheep. Below the cut is a small autobiography. I shall add any wanted connection ideas as well and if you like the post, I’ll be sure to shoot you a message to plot!

The De’Boux Household

Background:

Despite being the firstborn daughter of the De’Boux family, Lilith is hardly the first of their children. Following two older brothers, both of which are held in much a higher renown than the lady, Lilith learned her place in the household rather quickly growing up. 

Growing up Lilith was skilled in many things ladies were not supposed to excel in such as riding and shooting. Her older brothers had taken her under their wing despite their mother’s constant disapproval and began to teach her small lessons their parents would disapprove of especially for such a well-known family who wanted their daughter out on the marriage market as soon as she was of age. 

Thanks to her family’s wealth, there were few things Lilith truly longed for. She was well taught, excelling in her studies and music as any young lady should in such times. Her sizeable dowry surely brought a flurry of suitors during her first couple of seasons but her wit and tongue have seemed to scare a few of them away. Her father and mother are both rather upset with her behavior but have decided she shall marry in her next season, whether she wants to or not. 

Lady Lilith: 

Naturally, as the first female child of the family, Lilith was instantly shoved into the teachings of how to be a perfect wife and mother since birth. This pushing has lead her to rebel from such family ordeals and receive quite a few tongue lashings which normally work to put the female back into her “place”. 

Due to her constant strive to displease her parents, Lilith was sent off to live with her stricter and meaner grandmother for a couple of years between the ages of twelve to fourteen. Her grandmother (a foul but loved woman who was known for her elegance) attempted her very hardest to whip her granddaughter into a marrying state in which she would bring honor and wealth to the family

It was during this time that Lilith began to learn of the art of seduction, learning far more than she should from her reckless and widowed aunt who had also been staying with her grandmother. 

Soon enough the young lady was returned home but with a few more tricks and skills up her sleeve than ever before. Her attitude had changed and in front of her parents, she proceeded to become the young elegant lady they had always dreamed to be yet had no idea of the now silent vixen that lived beneath that calm demeanor. 

Connections?

With Lady Lilith still on the market, her parents are hoping for her to make a match and snag a few suitors. The sooner the better they believe as they are ready for her to begin the duties of being a wife and breed some little tots to also help continue and strengthen the De’Boux linage. 

Due to her abrasive behavior, Lilith has few lady friends but the ones that she does have she thoroughly enjoys the company of. Her handmaiden is also considered to be one of her best friends, despite how improper that may be. 

Both of her brothers have been rather distant as of late but surely, they shall turn up sometime soon right?
