Edith x Sherlock
Edith put the kettle on the table and sat down. It was tea time, but she was tired. She had spent the night awake, making boxes with Eudoria, and had little time to rest afterward.
Edith checked the paper. The Third Reform Bill was a success, but there´ll be no right to vote for women. Yet.
It was hope. She needed to keep it in her heart. It was a dream too. She and Eudoria had forged their friendship on the foundation of it. It was so close and so far away.
One of the girls brought her a cardboard box wrapped in a blue string. It was a medium-sized yellow box, the texture was interesting, and therefore the gift was expensive. Edith undid the knot and saw that inside were a card and a book. She read the message.
Dear Miss Grayston:
I know - I said what I said about politics. But you seemed more interested in such affairs than I, so I thought that maybe you will enjoy this book better.
P.S.: Don’t tell Enola.
Yours sincerely,
S.H.
Edith examined the book; it was a newly printed volume by a Spanish writer. “The Woman in her House by Concepción Arenal.”
Now there might be a chance. She smelled the new pages and smiled.

“So it shall be like this between us,” Jaime Lannister whispered in her ear as he entered the hall with her. When the doors closed, the clamor of the journalists disappeared.

Just as everyone was parting, Jaime Lannister spoke to Brienne.
“A word,” he said.
She stopped, noticing they were alone in the lobby.
“I want to tell you that I make my secretary available for whatever you need. I know it's a lot of effort, and whatever it costs, I'll pay for it.”
Brienne looked startled. She never thought that he was one of those benefactor men, but apparently he had a generous character. Although, a small voice of alarm began to whisper in Brienne's ear.
“I don't need a secretary. I have Daenerys,” she replied, warily.
“No, I insist. There is a party to organize, and a large wardrobe to order.”
“Are you sure you don't want an undercover agent to reassure you that I won't do anything inappropriate?”
Jaime took her hand. She felt the heat of it.
“Joy is a good girl. She is barely older than Myrci, but she’s very trustworthy. I'm not going to deny that I want her to tell me about your adventures, but as long as she makes sure everything is organized, I'll settle for it.”
Brienne blushed and looked at the hand that was between Jaime Lannister's. They both had gloves, of course, but Brienne stopped thinking for a moment, and she could only feel.
“Do we have a deal, Miss Tarth?” He asked her.
Stunned she just said yes in a whisper.

In the morning, Brienne went through the correspondence, as usual.
The most exciting thing that happened was that Mr. Jaime Lannister wrote her a note. Well, all the time they communicated by notes, but this time it was different.
The note read:
‘Dear Miss Tarth, today I will be walking in the park, near the statue of Baelor. Could you join me? It would be a pleasure for me.’
Brienne wrote him a short reply, and called Daenerys. Her lady's maid would be happy to escort her again.

Brienne just wanted to be unnoticed, but when one inherited a large sum of money, never shied away from society as a rule. There were always invitations and calls. She tried to attend a few balls and dinners, just to let the vultures know that she was still alive. She sometimes received visitors to also make sure that her fame as an eccentric was justified. Time had taught her to build walls, and keep them high.
