THIN AIR Music and photography in times of pandemic. Festivals for Compassion has been uniting festivals in Europe and beyond. Each shared their interpretation of Calliope Tsoupaki’s new solo composition Thin Air as an ode to compassion and an act of solidarity in these troubled times. Dutch photographer Richard Smit made an intriguing series of photographs about people in their natural habitat during the pandemic. We are all connected, even in isolation. Harp and violin. Completely different sound worlds that nevertheless enter into a symbiosis. Like good friends who dare to tell each other the truth.

Harp en viool. Snaarinstrumenten met volkomen verschillende klankwerelden die symbiose aangaan én elkaar op de proef stellen. Als goede vrienden die elkaar de waarheid durven te vertellen. Onstuimige, tere, rafelige, lyrische, fluisterende en warme klankwerelden ontvouwen zich. Een bezetting waar nog een schat aan repertoire voor te ontdekken is. Voor dit duo is dat een vrijbrief om uitgebreid op onderzoek uit te gaan!

Soms is slechts een dichtregel, een natuurverschijnsel of kunstwerk genoeg om een stroom aan muzikale associaties en ideeën los te maken voor de samenstelling van een programma. Beroemde componisten, pas ontdekte schatten en nieuwe composities klinken naast elkaar.

Lumen = Licht. Licht als metafoor voor een inval, een idee, inspiratie, een eureka.
