okay lol i found the chapter where it was mentioned that he wasn't japanese?? it was in stroke 60, but i can't seem to find where it said he was chinese
one of the reason i love blue period sm is bcs of the diverse characters, its not the type where they just make a charcter for the sake of having diversity. you can tell that tsubasa yamaguchi puts effort on them <3
yuka is a good example, being a queer charcter her arc is so beautifully written and i hope i see her more based on a post from the author's twt. miki too like a volleyball player with a bigger build??? i love her, i love the way they introduced her during the exam. there is also a character which name i forgot who is half chinese too?
tsubasa yamaguchi is on eof the artist i inspire to be because i love how you tell who is who becaue they have signature styles and personality

hikaru ga shinda natsu is about coming back wrong and haunting the narrative and being queer in a small rural town and internalised homophobia and summers that feel like they'll never end and the codependent homoerotic friendship you had when you were 15 and what it means to be dead or alive and navigating a world you feel like you dont belong to and grief and mourning and obsession and love and most importantly, having gay thoughts for the eldritch monster that bodysnatched your friend's corpse

i am yatora, yatora is me.
there's something about his character where i can either talk so much about him or nothing at all.
for me he's such a relatable character, not only because he's an artist as i am but also himself. i have amazing grades like him where i can use it to get a more "respectable job", my family life is so much similar to him.
and his like lines always hits too close too fucking home. there was a scene where he asked "was art always this terrifying?" or something along those lines and i just broke down idfk. because i remember discovering art and being happy with it, but over the time i started obsessing over the results instead of having fun.
i also started doing art only when i was in highschool during the pandemic bcs i was bored asf and suddenly i wanted to be an artist.
the only thing i dont have is the balls to actually tell my parents i want to pursue arts bcs i know they won't let, they would probably but not in an accepting way.
so yes read blue period because you might start kinning that artistic loser just like me

by the way, my favorite reading of satosugu's relationship under a romantic lens is that they never got to tell each other how they felt. not because they were insecure, or noticed too late, but because the right opportunity never came in the jjk novel, there's that bit about how when they were young, as long as they were together, nothing felt uncertain, so think about it: they were so sure of the future, so sure that everything would work out, that they felt no rush on changing anything. they knew they loved each other and maybe they even knew it was mutual. but they spent their free time and most of their work/school time together, they bought souvenirs and phoned each other when they were apart, they sparred, they fooled around, and for the moment that was enough. they had the whole future ahead of them. and then things started to come to an end. gojo didnt even noticed the distance until it was too late and geto obviously saw no point in doing anything about his feelings at that moment. even if they tried to give it a shot, tried to find a gap for a serious conversation, they were probably unable to. they spent all of their time on different missions and their free time usually didnt match. gojo was putting all of his focus on evolving his technique, and geto was simply exhausted by the flood of curses. so it just never happened. i know its a kind of heartbreaking concept, but ironically its the interpretation that comforts me the most. it leaves the feelings untouched in the past, and even tho they think (wrongly) the other doesnt feel the same anymore, ultimately they at least know that they were able to love and be loved the best that they could.
