Regulus’ Animagus Form: Cat-Sìth/Kellas Cat

The Cat-sìth is from Scottish Folklore and is a big black cat with a white patch on its front. It’s said to have the power to steal the souls of the recently departed, hence necessitating the wake. It is believed that melanistic or hybrid Scottish Wild Cats (bigger than domestic cats) which are known as Kellas Cat.

With the whole stealing Voldemort’s horcrux, the Cat-sìth is my choice for the form Regulus would have taken if he had learnt to take an animagus form. Its just such a fun connection and could have some lovely dramatic irony if he had learnt the form before going off to steal the locket. The black nature of the Cat-sìth/Kellas Cat also ties in nicely with both his family and Sirius’ form being a large black dog. As animagi forms are/tend to be normal creatures (i.e. Sirius is a large black dog, not a Grim), his form could be seen as the Kellas Cat with the suitable imagery of the Cat-sìth. This form, being larger than the domestic cat, would also leave Sirius and Regulus with big forms, suiting their dramatic natures.

The Scottish Wild Cat is the last of Britain’s native felines and are incredibly elusive. They are known to be ferocious, even taking on dogs when pushed, which suits Regulus’ eventual decision to turn on Voldemort. We do not get to see much of him, but there is a strong association with him and more feline energy, which the Cat-sìth would tie into.

Another of my Auditore and their Daemons (His Dark Materials). Claudia and her Cheetah daemon.  I’ve taken some liberties with Claudia’s dress but I’m quiet pleased with how it’s come out.

Auditore Daemons

So, overall birds would be more common in the Brotherhood (especially for those born into the Creed) although cats (free willed and independent) are a second contender.

Giovanni Auditore: A Gyrfalcon.

These are the hunting birds of royalty and nobility, which suits Giovanni who spent much of his time amongst the wealthy. It likely would have lent credibility to his bank and name. They are also hunting birds, which suits the assassin nature. The white variety from Greenland was considered to be the best.

Maria Auditore: A (Moggie) Cat

Born into a wealthy family but determined to interact with the commoners, Maria is independent and able to pass herself off as one of the lower classes. An ordinary moggie would suit her independent nature as well as being able to be passed off as the daemon of either a noble or a commoner.

Federico Auditore: A European Bee-Eater

Far from covert, Federico has a flare for the ladies and his daemon would represent this by being highly flashy. The female Bee-Eater is as colourful as the male and Federico would be sure to show off the colours to the best of his ability. They also hunt bees, a prickly opponent.

Ezio Auditore: A Turtle Dove

Ezio thought his daemon had settled as a kingfisher (flashy, fast, gone in a flash) but when he witnessed the death of his father and brothers, this changed things. I tossed long and hard as an Eagle would have suited the AC theme but pigeons were tempting with the whole hide in plain sight. The Turtle Dove is a member of the pigeon family, has tied with Fides, the Roman Goddess of Trust and Bona Fides (Good Faith) and is frequently seen as a representation of love. Ezio trusts a good many people and becomes a trusted mentor. Bona Fides includes honour, credibility and contractual obligations, which suits his role as an assassin and mentore to the Brotherhood. He also has a lot of love to give.

Claudia Auditore: A Cheetah

Cheetahs have been used as hunting cats in the past and a cheetah daemon would make for an exotic companion in Renaissance Italy, drawing attention to Claudia, who is someone who rather enjoys it. While the females are solitary, brothers will tend to stay in family groups, which suits Claudia’s ability to be independent but social and loyal to her family. They are active creatures, hence her time in Monteriggioni felt very confining and against her nature. A cat daemon would have suited her role as Madam of La Rosa in Fiore, giving her an air of elegance that she most certainly has. She teases Ezio relentlessly that her daemon settled before his.

Petruccio Auditore: Covid (Unsettled, so uncertain)

Petruccio died before his daemon could settle. However, she tended to take the form of covids, such as ravens, magpies, crows or jays. They are clever and curious bird species and suit his investigative nature.

The events that had lead to his capture did not seem important. Needless to say, Razer had taken some risks. And was now paying the price for his recklessness.

He’d been captured and a collar had been placed around his neck. The purpose of this collar seemed to be to inhibit his red ring’s ability to function. Thankfully it left enough energy to sustain his life support, including pumping red energy through his veins. It also left enough energy to translate the words spat at him. But alas not enough for him to fight against his would-be oppressors.

Razer growled at his captors who pushed him forward, through the dim corridors. Spears pointed into his back, forcing him onwards. Razer was not impressed.

A spin of the planet had passed and when they had tried to feed him, Razer had attempted to escape. He’d broken an arm before they’d beaten him back. Now it seemed they were moving him. Probably for execution. He looked down at his ring. The charge was slowly wearing down. Well, execution would just bring the inevitable forward. It would save some time.

However, instead of execution, they pushed him into another cell. He was aware of laughter behind him as the door slammed and locked. Glancing around the dark cell, his eyes fell upon another figure. A fellow inmate. Razer’s eyes shifted to the insignia on the man’s chest and instantly the Red Lantern was on the defensive, crouched, fists tightened.

A Green Lantern! The sworn enemy of his corps. Razer snarled at the alien, teeth barred, ready to tear the stranger’s throat out.
