A soulbond is a fictional character you have a mental connection to. The character can live with you in your head, communicate with you from their home universe/world/story, or travel back and forth. Soulbonders may or may not consider their experience to be plural. Soulbonding can be another name for the “living character” phenomenon, where authors’ characters sometimes come to life in their heads. It was soulbonders who popularized the word “fictive” among plural systems.

! Important Announcement !

TL;DR: This blog is going on indefinite hiatus, due to dramatic changes in system functions.

There has been a lot of change in the past month and a half. Now, I know that doesn't seem long enough for this to be a big deal, but I can only say that it *feels* like this is the new normal, and that it isn't going to go back anytime soon. Who knows, maybe tomorrow things will go right back to how it was and I'll feel really stupid for having made this post.

Right now, there are only three active members, and the majority of the time, its just Red fronting. There are some vaguer influences sometimes, but 99% of the time, its just us three. Anyone else fronting has actually been causing ✨ severe mental distress ✨, so this is a necessary thing in order to function.

They really were expecting to use this blog a lot more, and interact with the plural community a lot more, so it is painful to post this, don't get me wrong. But I'll be honest, I'm not so into this whole plural thing like the rest were. So I have little interest in continuing to keep up this blog for appearance's sake. I know this isn't news that everyone would've liked to hear, but I would rather just tell the truth than disappear without a trace.

It was very chaotic with 44+ people switching in and out without rhyme or reason. We would go weeks on end without knowing who was fronting at all. It is much more lonely with only two people directly fronting, but also much less confusing and easier to pin down emotions.

This does not mean that we're deleting this blog. We don't know how long this will last; maybe forever, or maybe I'll wake up tomorrow and everything will be right back to routine and I'll feel really stupid for making this post. If things ever do go back, we'll start using this blog again. And even if we never do, deleting it would be sad. The joy experienced through this blog is still relevant, not just for us, but for others as well.

Thank you to those who have followed this blog. Maybe in the future, things will return to that normal. But for now, things are moving in a new direction. And we- not just me (believe me, NOT me)- would like this to be the normal for now.

There's been a few changes surrounding our experiences lately- for one, there's been someone actually fitting a host role! A lot less people have been fronting lately because of that, and I mean a lot less.

This has been drastically affecting a lot of things, and this will probably impede posting on this blog. We did come up with some comic ideas before this happened, so we'll try and get those done, but after that? It may be a little different around here... sorry!

We were also thinking of changing how we do our intro posts, much less writing being the main thing. Originally, these drawings were just meant to be helpful for us, y'know, as like an icon or reference, so they'll still be made. Though information may be limited within the posts themselves. We were writing things mostly to make it easier for others to understand, but we might need to make it easier on ourselves now instead.

Creating another soulbonding symbol

Before anything, yes, I know that there already is a soulbonding symbol! In my personal opinion, though, the symbol is fairly basic, as eyes are a very widely used symbol. I don't see that and immediately think of soulbonding because eyes are used to represent so many things. Of course, this is just my opinion, and there is no shame to those who like it.

I did find mention of another symbol on an old soulbonding forum, but this symbol seems to be lost to time. I may recreate this one at a future date as well- it is described as being a tree with its roots planted in a heart. This does sound pretty cool, though, unfortunately complex. I think the most successful community symbols are ones that those without any artistic ability can replicate, and trees aren't so easy to draw.

So, what is my proposition?

Of course, I say the eye is basic, and then I just use a bunch of circles in mine. Hypocritical? Probably lol.

The two small rings represent the soulbond and the bonder, and the larger ring represents the link between them. The circular shapes were somewhat inspired by the soulbonding flag.

This symbol admittedly looks similar to some orbital symbols you can find online, but I tried to make this unique in and of itself. The space theme, I believe, actually fits quite well, like, traveling across universes and all that.

Based on this, I also created a symbol for soulbonders & soulbonds who are in a relationship/soulbonders who regularly date their soulbonds:

Another goal was to make this personalize-able (words suck), you could replace the inner circles with other symbols to represent more of your own experiences.

Since Tumblr likes to destroy image quality, here's cleaner downloads for all of these as well:

I know I blabbed a lot in this post lol. Any soulbond/soulbonder can use these symbols, whether your soulbonding is metaphysical or psychological, plural or non-plural, voluntary or involuntary, or whatever other experiences you may have.

I realize I don't have a name for this symbol also. Soulbonding rings? May be too close to the plural rings. Soulbonding orbit? Doesn't really roll off the tongue. Call it whatever you want I suppose.

Definitely depends on the SB. Let's see...

Kuro & North: Lumping them together because they're both OC soulbonds, so they are very very accurate to source because they already, like, know the story by heart, I guess you could say. Though North is slightly less apathetic here.

Hikaru: Legitimately the same person. Unfortunately, we're still consuming her source though, and its not bringing up many pleasant feelings... she'd actually like to make a comic about that, though.

Silver: Physically completely unrecognizable, he went through a very sudden image change one day. But his personality is still the same.

Leaf: Her source didn't flesh her out too much, so its hard to say. The actress who played her in the movie wasn't so far off, but her hair and eye colors definitely lean more on the unnatural side of things.

Pine: The most connected as he literally still travels back and forth; our only consistent daytripper.

Jasmine: Very very close to source, though her source is quite short, so there's a good chunk of chara development missing.

Hanako: "Close, but in an uncanny wa"y is the best I could describe her. She's definitely just as caring and loving and beautiful [[Hanako: laying it on a bit thick are we?]], but she's also more apathetic and dark. Sways more like the moon than the sun. /ref

Summer wasn't shown in her source, so I couldn't tell ya.

Finally, Hazel is still quite new here, so I wouldn't say anything concrete so soon, except that her sexuality is different.

Through whatever jumbled up thoughts we can manage to throw at one another lol. Sometimes we use pluralkit to message, but it sometimes makes the words feel more... fake I guess. Like they aren't natural. Though using pluralkit at least conjures up complete sentences.

So far, all soulbonds are involuntary. Pine *may* have been subconsciously voluntary for Canis though, since Canis has always been quite infatuated with him lol.

The biggest part was, upon realization, just having to re-evaluate and reshape what we belived. Canis (as the first host) didn't believe in the multiverse theory at all, but was faced with some pretty big arguments for it when Hikaru and Silver showed up.

On average days, most often, you'll see me muttering under my breath to talk to people, and then start laughing at nothing lol (then again, that's not true just for the soulbonds). Feeling inexplicably drawn to certain media, experiencing it, and then someone from it starts talking in your head and your like "I know now."

Mostly its positive, having friends is always nice. There are definitely unfortunate triggers and negative feelings that tend to come along with another SB, but its honestly not so bad when compared to all our other problems lol, so its nbd.
