Gothita was a late second addition I’m both proud of but also too tired to be proud of.. It’s three AM as I write this, soon after finishing the piece.

Lucy’s partner Pokémon is the Purrloin and not the only ghost type or the GOTHita. When I hear Lucy, I think of her and her mysterious, black magic ways that in turn make me think of witches. What better for a witchy girl than her own familiar: a dark type cat Pokémon. For Zubat, I feel the ownership of Fangs is enough to explain this. The Murkrow was also something that came from the same vein of thought that the Purrloin came from. The Vulpix is mostly because of an image that I always see in my head when someone mentions graveyards: a fox sleeping on a tombstone. Plus, with the lore and mystery surrounding Ninetales, Vulpix was a great choice. As for Litwich and Gothita, Litwick is the mandatory ghost type that Lucy would own, and a ghostly flame to be her guide in the night seemed to be the best use. AND WITCH AESTHETIC CALLS FOR CANDLES! Gothita also is a good callback to oldtimey goth style that Lucy seems to enjoy.

Shuppet was a runner up for Lucy’s team. What scary little girl is complete without a possessed doll anyway? It was mainly shafted last minute due to it being the easiest to remove (I already did all the linework in one layer by the time I thought to add Gothita) and since it was one of the two that made the least sense for Lucy to have in my opinion (the other being Vulpix).

So which team member is better for Lucy? Gothita or Shuppet?
