Context: In my hc/au Archivists (collector is just a term for a late stage of larvae) are form of gods known as world eaters. However, instead of "consuming" matter to keep on existing, they collect living matter and build into their archives(which are just their bodies). I could get in details what exactly collecting and archivising processes is and how it works but there is a great analogy in nature of this process - kleptoplasty(found in some species of sea slugs like sea sheeps). It's very similar to what I imagine collecting is so that is all important info linked with these panels

The trade
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First year or more of the conflict was a very strange time. Similar to virus infection the obvious symptoms haven't shown up yet. Besides a bit unusual behaviour of the ocean, the sky and local fauna nothing truly changed. No one was attacked, no one got missing, no one was dragged through the worst of hell before the death. Sometimes someone could hear strange noises similar to humming, glimpsed fast object in sky or felt many eyes staring at them while they were all alone. Nothing suggested the upcoming horror. However, Archivists didn't waste any minute, every single element of the plan must have been put in motion to enter the second faze. One of those elements was making deals with qennians. They seeked those titans who were banished, outlawed or under any form of repression which would be cause of resentment toward The Jaw Council or any form of lawmakers and leadership. In general powerful figures of titans' era. Promised sailors wealth, protection and vision of regaining their former glory and power over the sea for a "simple" abduction. Merchants blinded by vengeance and greed many agreed to the sweet maybe even too sweet deals made by strangers. It's not so easy to make a good choice under pressure
One of the notorious qennian fleet who fell for that trap were Charibdian merchants - leaded by Captain Sao and outlawed by the decree of the Jaw Council for the crimes against "The Order of the Seas".
Tumblr media
Here is Captain Sao and Stellar side by side (Sao knew stellar under name “Ishtar” this name was the name of the random star Stellar pointed at after the question “what are you?”)
Tumblr media
Funfacts:
Charibdian merchants is a reference to the type of squid which produces red ink that is used by members to paint their skulls
Archivists store enormous quantities of gold inside thier archives. This element is a very inactive one so the core won’t react with it and in a very same time it is great at conducting energy so every single tentacle receives same amount of energy

Just how big are Titan’s compared to Witches? How long to they live for? I’d love to see your ideas on their whole biology. I love every idea you have about their culture & the war with the Archivists.
Oh! Thank you! I'm really happy and flattered by hearing that you enjoy my little hyper fixation rumble
I hope it will answer your satisfy your curiosity<3

Titans were much taller than witches during their era. The smallest height difference between those two species was on average 45cm. The biggest was the double of witch's height. However, if we put side by side canon witches like Lilith or Eda beside Papa titan this size difference wouldn't be as big.
This shift in body relation between these two species before the conflict and after is motivated by my lovely ecology and evolution. Well titans, demons and witches were different species, yet their niches overlaped eachother in great majority. Three species competing over very same resources are always a bad idea in eyes of biology. Here steped in the antagonist relationship - an interspecies competition. This force of nature made the demons, witches and titans drift apart securing thier own evolutionary lines. Titans as the largest and strongest of rival species. They pushed aside other two groups taking most of the resources and expanding it. They became bigger and their dietary needs, to keep very energy consuming body aka producing magic bail, increased too. Rich in protein diet, lack of natural predators or rivals allowed them to reach whopping size of 2.45m on average. On the order side witches in order not to go extinct became smaller. Their dietary requirements shrank alongside. Witches ate mostly plant based products with inveratbrates, eggs and small marine animals as main source of protein. Thanks to that they successfully avoided the unfair competing for food with much more powerful opponents. That change allowed titans to get bigger while witches got smaller. After Archivists' visit a brand new niche opened to witches, which resulted in evolution of a modern witch who is much more similar to humans in every single form and behaviour than its ancestors.
Analogous situation happened with the aging. Smaller animals tend to live shorter, bigger longer. When titans and witches lived at the same time the disproportionation in aging was huge. I think a bit about again of humans in comparison to dogs or cats scale. For witches in that period of time titans real were never aging gods walking among them in their towns and fields. Difference between modern witches and titans would be much shorter, yet it still huge. King will without a doubt outlive Luz's grandkids.

Did your titans grow to island sizes naturally or did that only happen after death/in unique circumstances?
(I'm really sorry it took me so long, I'm drowning in study stuff currently and I just couldn't find a minute to sit down to it properly)
It honestly a tough question for me since I haven't fully find solutions for all exceptions and "what ifs", but I do have some general concept of this topic which sounds enough good to fit my hc
The answer is the genetics
Titans did't grow to a island size as part of their regular aging process. Depending on a type they would stop when they were between 2m to 3m in height. I think a bit about them as crocodiles, in this specific topic, so very old titans could get even bigger (not much and took literal ages but can)
The isle form was not something commonly occuring, but was very much a natural phenomen some titans went through. Small part of population had a set of resesive genes(probably pleiotropic) which under proper stimulation could get activated in cells causing rapid growth of the muscles and bone tissues( and few more like epithelium found in lungs, veins and skin) resulting in size familiar for the toh
In many manners this process would look a lot like titan transformation from aot with tint of fetus development. The methamorphosis was highly exothermic and used up all of the adiposal tissue and great chunk of bone and muscle of the main body. And probably very painful. (I can't imagine non-painful transformation including your spinal cord and cranial nerves just grows out of your body and your fat tissue starts to almost boli and reapers your skin wide open to mutate even more- At least it was(must have been) really fast and adrenaline could numb unfortunate titan for a bit) The new body was connected to hidden inside its chest or skull smaller(main) one. The gigantic form was a light, easy to maintain and very mobile form. Excellent for traveling and raming/ramming. It didn't require food as it uses itself as a energy substrate. However, it needed enormous amounts of oxygen nonstop. Cut oxygen down for just a minute and the body will instantly shut down as the main body basically would start to suffocate and drown in its own fluids. New form lacked most of organs, only systems required for movement and perception formed in the isle size. That means it could be used only as long as it didn't get to its bones, inevitably causing it to collapse. The isle size was a temporary state, which I believe every single other creature deeply appreciate. Of course all magical staff was still there, as whole blood with the bail was transmitted by main body veins and magic leaked to the isle form like lymph through the open wounds.
The main body could always step out the gigantic form. If the titan exited the isle size, the isle form would fully "burn itself/digest itself" leaving only bones. The activate enzymes would keep on catalysing intense cellular respiration as there wasn't definite "brain death signal". Titan ,who just left the gigantic form, would be in not the nicest state. Deep wounds would cover their body especially belly area and the spine. Luckly, thanks to the titans' healing magic they could quickly seal the banes and start making up deficiencies. Getting back to shape(be stable with wounds which wouldn't open if they bend to take sth of the ground) usually took around a week. If titan died in isle form, they would go through normal decomposition process. And the rest is the canon - whale fall case ect ect

Your dead wife's voice
Tumblr media
An infamous story of a clan head who after loosing his wife and eyesight in the battle went insane. The rumours says that he was talking to his deceased lover every night in the bed chamber. Some servants whispered that indeed they could hear two voices behind the doors, noone dared to check that

Sound doesn’t travel in space, where nobody hears the music
I recently picked up the guitar again and realized my favorite song to play translates to to their name. So, well, my hand was forced. Here is The Wayfarer playing "Wayfarer"
In case anyone is interested, this is a cover of the song. It’s a scouting song, and our group had a bit different tone and tempo. I think this version is closer but it's a more metal one

The Charmer is my favourite because he’s so evil and very good at manipulating. she is like “I would never hurt a child!” and then makes a cult that kills a million babies. He is @insanelyadd @ask-thearchivists ‘s character! I hope you like it (I can delete it if you want though)

*(bursts through the wall)*
Hi! I'm gonna start with the titans bc I love them <3
So I love how you thought of the Titans being bigger and having more fat to withstand the cold (the polar bear characteristics are a cool (heh) touch)
Their tails are vestigial from their time as nomads, right? That does make me wonder if polar titans would have lost/shortened their tails if they had more time to evolve, given extremities tend to be small in polar animals (sticky outy bits get cold, as a wise person once said)
OH on that note, their eyes are AMAZING and then being basically colorblind in favor of a better night vision is 👌
I haven't researched much in this topic, but I belive they could benefit from countercurrent heat exchangers on their extremists? Like, their feet and outer skin could be at a lower temperature than the rest of body to avoid heat loss
(mine wall my lovely brick wall :"))
Halko~
Thanks! It's so sweet to hear<3 I put some thinking process into and it really made my day especially when I can reconsider some aspects with I believe fellow biology geek
Indeed you're right. If they had more time their tails would shorten in some generations. It's not really efficient to have such a big limb sticking out in the snowy land. Titans are warmblooded animals which itself is a huge energy cost and additional they use enormous amounts of energy and nutrients to metabolize their magic. The long sealy tail is cute n fluffy is not really great choice in their homeland. However I don't think they would lose their tail totally or have it almost invisible like polar bears. Probably it would in a final form resemble in size a reindeer tail, but kept the fin like shape. Short, with a lot of fluff on the bottom side. Their nonverbal communication would need to develop a brand new sign of joy and curiosity as wagging wouldn't be an option anymore
Jup, they could benefit a bit for that, but I'm not sure if in their cases it would change a lot. If ploars would live in the environment analogous to the Antarctic or the Arctic they surely would have this system, but they don't live there. After all it's still a land of ice and lava. Only habitable areas of the continent are nearby the rivers, which keeps the ground warm enough to sustain trees. Still freezing and cold but not to the -70°C on average on the ground level. Actually walking there bare foot without knowledge where you step could results with burnt paws. Especially if focusing on the cities, pavements and roads were in many places heated because they used the underground lava system as the blueprint. So more blood veins in their paws could be even better deal as they could take some heat from the ground and transport it to the core. Honestly I need to rethink this topic a bit more but it's the first thing that formed quite decent answer which makes sense in context of the environment they happened to be in

Made some doodles for the Star Children, now it's the titan's turn (before Shit Went Down™️)

A little baby showing their punk big sister the berries they harvested all on their own! What a helpful little fella

Not all tribes had good relationships with the mortals on land, which might have influenced how The Archivists managed to recruit many of them to be Titan Trappers
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Titans" is a broad term for many subspecies, but all of them have an outer skull, blue blood and purple-ish flesh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Plus King himself (and Thalion cameo!) King ended up rather strong, but short for a titan his age, mostly due to a lacking diet as a hatchling
He became sort of a local helper around the Isles, especially during the "space age" of the demon realm, as there is a lot of machinery and heavy lifting to do, and he's the only creature tall/strong/powerful enough to do these by himself anyways. Despite all that, what he really loves is just making clothes.
That last picture is roughly 700~ years after the finale
