My beautiful Savannah Na’vi inspired by the Himba (OvaHimba) tribe of Northern Namibia. I traded the stripes for a more cheetah like pattern.
Himba people, especially women, are famous for covering themselves with otjize paste, a cosmetic mixture of butterfat and ochre pigment. It helps to cleanse the skin and protect it from the hot and dry climate! The style of hair depicts womanhood. Often times the plaits of braids covering face in a veil like fashion will indicate a pubescent status, whereas women who wear an Erembe style show they’re no longer children

So I had a few people ask for my thoughts on the upcoming “ash people” or fire na’vi so here is a concept of a cute couple and headcannons:
I think they will be a people associated with fire because their clans are located at the base of volcanos, benefitting from the volcanic earth.
bioluminescent dots glow red/orange
Eyes have adapted to extreme light and heat and in situations will turn into small slits.
Called ash people because of volcanic ash being constantly on their feet, they also have adapted to have thicker skin on hands and feet that can handle heat.
Charcoal and ash are commonly used in body paint and decoration.
Weapons and jewelry are made from obsidian like rocks and leather from large Komodo like lizards that dwell near volcanic openings.
OH YES their ikrans are basically large Komodo dragons that can run across volcanic plains. Initiation to becoming a warrior includes venturing into an inactive cave system to trap and tame your mount.
They actually have a very rich diet as volcanic soil is extremely fertile, very diverse and wild plant like grows from large inactive volcanic cracks.
this is all my thoughts based on the idea of “ash people” I have not done any actual research into what my man james in planning.

Especially Neytiri was completely stripped from an own storyline. She was a mother, and an amazing warrior - the end
But when you paied attention you saw that she never trained to become a water species. She was still flying with an Ikran, she didn’t knew how to hold her breath under water. There was so much grief to explore in her character. Leaving behind the place where all her ancestors where buried (which was specifically important towards the end), not being able to fulfill the promise she gave her father. The bow being broken…
I understand they wanted to shift the focus from the parents to the kids but this movie was 3 hours long, no one can tell me there was no time for her character

If you loved Avatar and wish you could help indigenous people survive and fight back against colonization, but all you have to offer is your money, here's a good all-round charity:
