so I’m on vacation until Monday, but I have been working on cataloging all of my OCs, and it occurred to me that if I want to be as thorough and complete as possible, I need to include stuff I may want to avoid, like Dragon Age and Star Wars

which means I’ve sat down to think about Revan again and — well, I don’t really know how I feel about it, but I rewrote Revan’s backstory a bit — mostly made it more concise and less confusing, I have no idea what I was thinking when I wrote the current version

anyway, the gist is: Lady Umbra val Kyria (a Sith Pureblood from the Unknown Region) goes to Onderon to try and court a descendant of Freedon Naad, she gets betrayed and turned in to the Jedi. they let her give birth before executing her. the baby is sent to Dantooine under the story of being the bastard child of a forgotten prince of an equally forgotten planet. they find an orphan boy along the way and decide to make him the baby’s half brother

I haven’t figured out why they go through the trouble of doing that yet, but whatever, I think I’m happy with it

informal: What's your OC's lazy-day look? How do they like to dress when they're winding down?

Revan's lazy day look is, in a word: simple. she prefers a loose tunic or blouse and loose but moveable pants, with minimal decoration but if Tari's around then there's bound to be at least a little bit of embroidery around the collar, wrist/shoulder and waist. nothing overly too much, but enough to notice. usually Revan will go barefoot because she dislikes wearing shoes when she feels safe, but doesn't like walking around in socks. unless it's cold, in which case she'll tolerate slippers. even casually, however, she feels compelled to keep her lightsabers on her at all times, so they're clipped to her belt

in verses where Revan is a leader, while she'll forgo any of her usual formal or battle attire in instances where she feels safe, she's always careful to make sure certain things are in easy reach -- her breastplate, gauntlets, and mask, and she'd rather die than put aside her lightsabers, so again, they're clipped to her belt

apologies for disappearing for so long, I did not intend to do so. unfortunately, my desire to write is being dragged down by lack of motivation

but now that I think about it -- I've been writing Revan for the better part of 8 years now. perhaps part of the problem is that I have become bored, and I must admit that makes me quite sad. I don't want to be bored with Revan, but...perhaps it is time to try someone new...

hopefully, if I write someone new, my motivation to write Revan and Tari will go up again! the only question is, who do I pick...

THE MANY MEANINGS OF "HEY.": A PROMPT LIST.

i often have these ideas that have no real origin, but i can actually tell you precisely why my brain wanted this: i was listening to "hey, soul sister" by train on a loop and i got thinking abt the fact that we really do just say "hey" for so many reasons. and i wanted to make that your thought of the evening! so happy november, bon appetit, wrap up warm, DO NOT ADD TO THIS LIST, and enjoy your writings!

[ GREETING ]: sender says "hey" as a greeting to the receiver.

[ ATTENTION ]: sender, having just noticed something strange or remarkable, calls for the receiver to get their attention.

[ REASSURE ]: in a bid to steady the unsettled receiver, the sender lightly says "hey" to help them calm down.

[ ANGER ]: the sender sharply snaps "hey" at the receiver, clearly angry about something the receiver has just done or had done in the past.

[ IDEA ]: having been presented with a predicament, the sender suddenly unravels a solution, introducing it to the receiver by saying "hey…".

[ GUILT ]: having just done something that they know the receiver won't be pleased with, the sender sheepishly greets them once they arrive to see the damage.

[ GOSSIP ]: the sender turns to face the receiver conspiratorially, clearly eager to share some new gossip with them.

[ URGENT ]: the sender rushes to the preoccupied receiver, desperately shouting "hey!" to get them to focus on a far more pressing matter.

[ SOOTHE ]: after finding the clearly distressed receiver, the sender pulls them into a careful embrace, gently murmuring "hey…" to try and soothe them.

[ SMILE ]: the sender (who hasn't been smiling up until they actually see the receiver in front of them) lights up with a smile as they greet the receiver.

[ TEARS ]: the sender greets the receiver while very clearly in tears.

[ FAKE ]: alternatively, the sender (who has just been crying in private) hastily wipes away their tears and tries to greet the receiver casually (to varying degrees of success).

[ WARNING ]: when the receiver begins to say things about subjects that are off-limits to the sender, the latter gives them a warning by saying "hey…".

[ LAUGH ]: having found the receiver to be decidedly unhappy, the sender lightly catches their attention before doing something to make them laugh, or at the very least, grin.

[ PROTEST ]: after the receiver does or says something that the sender deems to be unfair, the sender tries to exact justice by saying "hey!".

[ BREATHLESS ]: having clearly just sprinted down to the receiver, the sender tries to catch their breath while greeting them.

[ SAVE ]: after just saving the receiver's life in a very heroic fashion, the sender smoothly greets them while helping them escape.

[ FLIRT ]: the sender meets the receiver in a social setting, and attempts to flirt with them with the very traditional pick-up line: "hey.".

[ APOLOGY ]: the sender, having recently done something that hurt or upset the receiver, reunites with them and addresses the elephant in the room by greeting them with a sincerely apologetic tone.

[ AWKWARD ]: after a particularly rough first encounter, the sender meets the receiver again, and awkwardly greets them with more than a touch of embarrassment.

[ GENTLE ]: having found the receiver in an emotionally compromised position, the sender closes the door and approaches them carefully, gently saying "hey…" to try and get them to communicate what has upset them.

[ HARD ]: preparing to deliver what they both know will be bad news, the sender tries to prepare the receiver by quietly greeting them in a solemn tone.

[ WAKEN ]: walking into the receiver's bedroom, the sender gently shakes their shoulder to waken them, and whispers "hey." to encourage the process along.

[ WHISPER ]: the sender gently whispers "hey" to the receiver to discreetly get their attention without drawing the attention of others.

an AU in which Lady Umbra's schemes come to fruition and she gets her husband on the throne of the planet Veran. additionally, instead of Aurelia being adopted by the Ry clan, Navree ends up adopted by Aurelia's father before her birth

Aurelia Valeria Corva -- princess of Veran Umbra Val'Kyria -- Sith sorcerer from the Unknown Region Faustus Valerius Veritas -- current King of Veran Publius Naevius Veritas -- adopted first child of Faustus and crown prince of Veran

Lady Umbra wanted to keep the kids with them, but Faustus decided it was in their best interest to let them be trained by the Jedi. Aurelia is extremely precocious and manages to stay with her brother despite being several years younger (also she'd just become incredibly difficult to deal with when they separated the siblings, so it was best to let her stick to her brother)

Aurelia means 'gold'. Revan acquired the title of Prodigal Knight, which refers to someone who spends money and resources freely and recklessly, I think there's a bit of irony there. I know it's a nomen and not a praenomen, I'm not trying to construct a perfectly accurate name, I'm going for what I think sounds good

Umbra means 'shadow' and for a Sith, it works quite well. I must admit I don't know what my thought process for Val'Kyria was, but I like it too much to figure out a replacement

Faustus shares the name of a man who made a deal with the Devil -- in this case, his Devil was Lady Umbra. Veritas means 'truth' or 'honesty'. he is actually truthful and honest but people don't tend to believe him

Publius means 'of the people', which fits Navree's personality quite well. I don't know, Naevius just feels like it's keeping in line with both the naming scheme and Navree himself. he also gets the cognomen Veritas because like his adopted father, he is very upfront, truthful and honest. thankfully, people are more willing to accept his truthfulness

Revan would never be a demagogue. oh, she's a populist, she very much listens to her people and wants them to like her. but she's got charisma, rhetoric and logic on her side, why would she need to stoop to playing on the fears of the mob?
