I'm asking how you airbrush colors in layers! There looks like such a jump from one layer to the other and I want to know that whole process. Have you considered making a speedpaint video?
Hi @plaguechicken!
I’ll see what I can do on the speedpaint front. But for now I can offer some tips. With every piece, I work from the lightest and warmest color to the darkest and coldest color. Oftentimes it goes from yellow—>red—>brown—>green—>teal—>blue—>violet. The darkest color is a mixture between brown, blue and violet so I try to do that last. Not all of the pieces have these exact colors, so some are eliminated from the process but the layer order remains the same. Once I’ve finished putting down the darkest color, I can start scratching. That’s followed by another layer of airbrushing done in the same order. Tho on the second layer the darkest colors can be left out.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you’d like to hear a breakdown of a specific piece or if there’s a subject you’d think would look awesome in speedpaint form.

I forgot to add this but the peeling parts on my videos are contact paper stencils that I make myself and don’t come with the boards. It helps preserve the white layer and saves me a lot of clean up time.
Hi! I don't know if you're still active but if you are I was wondering what brand/type of scratchboard you use? I've only ever used the thin paper kind, but yours seems to be much thicker (I've also never seen the kind that peels...I didn't know that existed). It also seems to take colour much better than any of the sheets I've used, and I'd like to try it out!
Hi @jedigranger!
I use Ampersand scratchboard and clayboard. They’re composed of a hardboard with a layer of Kaolin clay followed by ink and are indeed much thicker than other scratchboards. They’re also much more absorbent compared to other scratchboards as you’ve observed.
Thank you for the ask!

Video
This is scratchboard, which is a kind of engraving technique. In this video I started with a white clayboard that I airbrushed with colored ink. With some very sharp instruments, I’m scratching off parts the colored ink layer to reveal the white underneath and create details.

What's your process for airbrushing? I've just gotten my own airbrush and I don't know where to start
Hi @plaguechicken !
Are you looking for a rundown on how to operate an airbrush or are you looking for a demonstration on how I layer colors? I’m trying to decide whether I should make a video or not.

Feeling a little guilty that I didn’t complete all of the prompts for Inktober, so here’s a Rhinoceros I intended to draw for the prompt: Mythical.

I have a lot of catching up to do as far as D&D drawings go but I started with a picture of my Kenku, Klik Klik, with his new duds that he purchased a few sessions ago.

Hello all! I’ve uploaded all of the gray toned Inktober artwork to my Inprnt. Check the link in the replies if you’d like a print of one of these critters in your home.
