Allison Argent was an awkward teenager who loved her friends, snuck out to go bowling, made dirty jokes, and went to all of Stiles and Scott’s lacrosse games with homemade signs. She left hearts with her messages and wanted to get better at photography and was inconsolable when she accidentally hit a dog with her car. THAT is who Gerard manipulated into being a child soldier. THAT is who the Argent family wanted to turn into a killer.

you might think hm the episode before motel california could never live up to that hype… forever doomed to be the episode before the banger of all bangers… but you would be WRONG because frayed has EVERYTHING. Scott actively dying because of his guilt complex. Stiles calling him Scotty. Allison Lydia stalker ride or die road trip core. Scott actively dying and yet still being needed to be the peacekeeper. Isaac noticing he’s hurt with THE softest voice. Allison hallucinating her dead mother to yell at her. Allison saying she is “unemotional” in the MOST emotional way possible. First mention of Scott as an alpha (goat!!!). Isaac going buckwild the moment Scott dies. Scott yelling Isaac’s name the only thing that snaps him out of beating the shit out of ethan. They are on a school road trip with like ten other kids who have no idea what the fuck is going on. Why is Scott’s ex here with the queen bee of beacon hills high to witness whatever gay shit he has going on w Isaac Lahey. they don’t even do cross country.
#you're so right#other people's metas#teen wolf#tw season 3a#honestly the whole of 3a is the reason why I'm never getting over this show

Yeah Teen Wolf's lighting mostly sucks in later seasons but when it's good it's actually so good. This is one of my favorite scenes for lighting, from the episode in which Scott is murdered (5x10):
Scott and Theo are framed by darkness, the only light the sunlight filtering in from the glass door offscreen. Scott's going to be murdered after the sun sets--the light is the clock ticking down to his death. The light connects him and Theo in the frame.
Theo ought to be cast more in shadow because of where he's sitting, but he's angled himself carefully to catch the light (something Christian excels at in general). Every time Theo turns to Scott, he's bathed in sunlight. Looking at him, you'd barely know there were any shadows at all:
Scott's face, on the other hand, is split between dramatic light and dark. The dramatic lighting is stunning on Posey's features and he's in such command of it. Every time he turns to Theo--to discuss how alone he feels, how Allison's memory pains him--he turns subtly into the shadow:
And when Theo looks at Scott, he sees a boy shrouded in it:
What a shot! The light on his stunning profile only highlights the darkness!
How fully Scott turns to the darkness because he thinks it's his friend!
In the end, Theo, knowing he intends to engineer Scott's murder that night, asks Scott's permission to "let me see what I can do." As he heads to the door, Scott turns to him, facing the light for the first time:
This is who Scott is! He's exhausted, he's half eaten by darkness, but he's still turning towards the light. His eyelashes cast mournful shadows at the edges of his sad brown eyes. He's so full of heart as he thanks Theo--painfully honest--for whatever he's going to do. This thank you is the unkindest cut of all.
Theo looks back at him and says nothing, now finally, fully cast in shadow:
Scott is left in darkness:

Man, Scott's murder just gets to me. It's the cruelty of it. Theo tears away all his friends and manipulates him and betrays him and humiliates him and poisons him and leaves him to bang on the bars of his cage for hours, knowing his murder is coming. He makes one of Scott's best friends try to kill him, makes Scott pick between dying and killing this kid. And Scott takes a violent beating and the only reprieve comes from another loss--that someone else has died, someone Scott has tried so hard to save, someone else he's failed. And Mason is so scared and needs answers Scott doesn't have, help he can't give. And all of that's over in seconds because Theo's gonna kill him even when it gets him nothing.
It's the smallness of it. Scott dies for nothing except Theo's desire to kill him! He won't get any power out of it, the Doctors don't care. Theo wants to kill him because he's "perfect," something that has to be so bitterly laughable to Scott right now. He's gonna kill Scott because he's a werewolf--because he was attacked in the woods one night and has been a target ever since. He's gonna die for that! He's gonna die because Theo is so obsessed with things that don't matter, being a real werewolf doesn't matter. It's so small and Theo's killing him so violently over it.
It's how desperately Scott clings to whatever little he has left. He's ground down so relentlessly into his own powerlessness. He can't save anyone, he can't escape, he can't fight, he can't breathe. By the time Theo kills him, he can't even stand--Theo is holding him up by the claws he's got buried inside him. Mason's lying unconscious beside him and Theo could kill him so easily if he wanted and Scott can't stop him and he's got to spend his final moments facing that. He's fought so desperately to have any control over his body and his life and to make things better for others, to make meaning of the violence that was done to him, and this is where it's gotten him and everyone he cares about. He's got a few final breaths before this person he thought was his friend--whom he tried to help--silences him forever and the only thing he's got is man, at least I know what matters. And does it really matter when all it gets him is those final tortured breaths before he dies alone and in pain.

Crazy how Theo's violence unites Scott and Lydia in almost the same way Peter's does. Peter shapes both of them more--his bites and violations and terrorizing inducts them into the supernatural--but it gets to me that Theo's violence happens in the same night. He plunges his claws into each of them on the same night! And both of them wrestle with this physical trauma he leaves in them: Scott's wound, Lydia's coma. Scott and Lydia connect on so much--the bite, saving Jackson, losing Allison, that time they were tied up and tortured together--but something about the simultaneity of what they suffer during the supermoon just makes me scream.
#lydia martin#scott mccall#fun fact every time they look at each other or hold hands I know that they know#idk how to say it#but like they know (I say pleading to the teen wolf gods)#they must#other people's metas

Has anyone made a Derek Hale&Scott McCall ‘Wait for it’ edit yet?
#my sister was a genius. my mother commanded respect. when they died they left no instructions. just a legacy to protect#scott doesn’t need to wait. he exhibits no restraints. he just takes and he takes and he takes. and he keeps winning anyways.#he changes the game. he plays and he raises the the stakes. and if there’s a reason he seems to thrive when so few survive…#i’m right aren’t i?#derek hale#scott mccall#aaron burr#teen wolf#tw rambles
