if you're in Europe PLEASE consider signing the Stop Destroying Games initiative. the deadline is July 31st 2025. i've posted about it before; it aims to create legislation for publishers to stop killing the games you pay for and to provide an end-of-life plan for live-service products. thank you!!!

Took me like. 2 minutes, and my only death was from accidentally swimming into a mine. I had more trouble from the level before.

Finally, a worthy opponent! This battle will be. Stupidly easy because I played this level a bunch as a kid.

Wait actually.
Need to update my header again, like I've played enough good games recently that I think I can replace some of the like. "Placeholder" ones.
And also put Realms of the Haunting on there, even though I have yet to play it.

I really like how BallisticNG does that thing where like. When you get an item, you hear the regular announcer, but when an opponent gets an item it like. Has different effects applied (like I think it's just a pitch-shift, maybe the ring-mod(?) is more intense, and it could just be me but it kinda sounds like the line-delivery might be a bit different?). Like first it's just kinda neat, but also if you're trying to concentrate on the track (which. It's a racing game, you should be doing that) it makes it easier to differentiate.

Slapped this together in Xara as part of a sticker-sheet I'm making (for myself; I have no plans on selling it, mostly because the other stuff on it at time of writing are some console logos and a Nintendo logo parody). This one's going to go on my laptop!
For the record, the method I used to get the text to look like the top part of the "modern" Club Penguin logo is this (which will probably only help if you use Xara, and even then it might only work with older versions):

Also I'm aware that the Saints Row wiki has a timeline, but it's full of contradictions since it uses stuff like non-canon promotional websites and dates taken from textures and stuff, which means you get things like Earth getting blown up happening before events that happen in earlier games.

Oh hey I think I've found like. A decent anchor for when Saints Row 2 is set? Like mid-to-late 2008, if we assume these numbers are dates in the MDY format, since it's set in America; the first is the 7th of June 2008, while the second is the 14th of February 2009
Factoring in any timeskips mentioned in later games (I know The Third's intro mentions how long it's been, but I can't remember how long), you could theoretically assemble a "true" Saints Row timeline.

Why did I make this
Fisherman image from Combine Overwiki, text labels made with Cooltext, flower crown from "Free Icons PNG"(?). Blush effects made in Xara Designer Pro X9. Bokeh/glitter/whatever drawn in Clip Studio Paint and then modified in Paint.NET. Image assembled in Paint.NET.

Like I think the thing that can make me like a hard game is if its visuals are Fucking Weird™.
Clash: Artifacts of Chaos is the only Soulslike I've ever finished, and the whole game looks like a '70s surreal fantasy illustration (though to be fair it's also a Zeno Clash game. Like even if it wasn't like that I'd still have finished it).
Cruelty Squad makes my eyes and my soul hurt, but it's one of my favourite games of all time.
Summoner is from that period of time when fantasy games were still allowed to get weird with their aesthetics and creatures, and while I do keep getting ny party killed, it's still in my second-favourite Volition game (my favourite is Saints Row 2 by the way).
And then Brigand Oaxaca is like if the 3D Fallouts and the original Deus Ex had a hateful, ugly baby that wanted me dead, and I love it. Also the visuals kinda remind me of like. If Postal 2 was even crunchier, and as someone who really likes Postal 2 (in spite of its. Everything) it's really neat to see another game that kinda looks like it. But crunchier. Like this game's Steam banner image is definitely going in my header the next time I update it.
Also shout-out to Hbomberguy for mentioning Brigand Oaxaca in his excellent Deus Ex Human Revolution video, like I probably wouldn't have even heard of it if it wasn't for him. Though it was the recent (and maybe currently active?) "Minigun ICE" workshop event that convinced me to actually bother checking it out.
Played some of the Brigand Oaxaca demo.
It's good!

Hey so like. What's the deal with the creature in this scrapped Doom sky texture. Like it looks like a big worm monster? Or maybe some kind of humanoid creature looming over the horizon. Like what's the intention? Was this made from a photograph of a physical model, like some of the enemies, or is this another illustration like the Episode 2 intermission? Truly a mystery...

Can't wait for someone to try the "singleplayer Hero Shooter" format and make it actually work.

Gleurghb.
Yes I know piracy is an option and I should probably go with that but I'd rather reserve that for games that are no longer available legally anywhere.
