i love when professors try to use modern slang to relate to students. my professor referred to the theater of pompey as “the place where caesar got vibe checked by a bunch of senators” and i lost it.

You guys know that I’m one of the most pro self-dx people out here, so you know when I say this, that that’s the stance I come from but

A label, without anything done with it, is pointless, useless, and likely damaging.

Self-dx is an important step, but that’s what it is, a step. Self-dx shouldn’t be an end point. You shouldn’t say “yeah I have X” then move on. Self-dx is so you can go on to learn more about yourself, find ways to improve yourself (be that via a professional of not), and connect with others within the community, and this applies to a prof dx too.

Simply gaining a label and doing nothing with it is likely harmful as you can begin to wrap yourself around that label. Hell, I was like that about 2 years ago - the BPD label became so integrated into myself that I got worse, and worse. Only when I forced myself to USE that label to help myself, was my self-dx healthy.

I know this is an odd rant, but if you get a diagnosis, be it prof or self, please, make sure to go on and use it to help yourself.

I’m not a classicist, but I suspect one of the reasons so many of the Greek gods are portrayed so unflatteringly was less because they were seen as villains than because they represented their domains.  Of course Zeus sometimes misuses his power, that’s what a king does.  Of course Artemis’s wrath is wild and painful, that’s what nature can be.  Of course Hades snatched away a young girl from her mother’s arms, that’s what death does.  This is one of the reasons callout posts for some gods comparing them negatively to ‘nicer’ gods are kind of missing the point.
