I think it's really interesting as well, because it's so clear that he and Erin as well have the biggest levels of compassion that they keep hidden. Even in the behind the scenes, alexz said that "I think because Ian doesn't care, Erin pretends not to". Erin was the first to speak up to Wendy when comforting them, and Ian drove the scientific point home. People with high levels of compassion and empathy also have slightly higher levels of intellect, and it's displayed well in Ian especially. While him saying that stuff at the funeral is obviously the wrong place and time, the fact that Erin doesn't try to stop him and instead says they should go likely means she knows how emotional he is, and how angry he is at the unfair circumstances of their deaths like it's so yrfghfggf. I wish we had gotten to see more of them without the tough loner act the two of them seem to put on :(

ian mckinley ranting about how ashley and ashlynn didn't deserve their deaths at their joint funeral even though he was shown to not really care about or know them is something so interesting to me. and i think it adds something really fascinating to his character bc him saying that at the wrong time and the wrong place makes sense for who he is, but the sentiment of it feels very different from most of the scenes that we get of him. like, i would say the closest we get to that is when he and erin are trying to tell wendy that the rollercoaster isn't as dangerous as she thinks it is
