Morrigan coming out to Feyre…
Okay, so I’m listening to Mor come out to Feyre about being a lesbian and I honestly understand why she would have kept it a secret in Hewn City, but why the fuck is she keeping it a secret from Rhys, Cass, and Az? Rhys isn’t trying to marry off Mor like her family did. Also, I thought Mor had brothers, or am I mistaken? Cause she just said her family bloodline would end with her if she married as she wished.
When it comes to her found family, I still don’t understand why Mor can’t come out to them when Rhysand, Cassian, and Azriel seem perfectly fine with Helion being very openly bisexual and Thesan having a clear male lover that even Rhysand points out. Rita’s is also a known gay hangout in Velaris. Mor says Velaris is a haven for people like her, thus as High Lord, Rhysand should know this. The four of them had been going to Rita’s for centuries, you’d think they’d notice that gay people existed there. If her found family had issues with it, pretty sure they’d say something. Plus didn’t she have a female lover amongst one of the past mortal queens? Wouldn’t the guys have known she sleeps with women? If they can accept she’s bi, why not just lesbian?
Also I get she and Feyre are friends but she’s known Feyre a handful of months compared to her found family she’s had for centuries. Why is she telling Feyre of all people who, in my honest opinion, is one of the least open minded people I can think of given Feyre can’t even fathom the idea that Tamlin was on their side the whole time…
If she’s afraid of Keir and her family in Hewn City, why? She doesn’t live there anymore. She’s under Rhysand’s protection and can’t be forced into marriage again.
Seriously though, the Solar Courts at the very least seem very LGBT friendly, I can’t say anything about the Seasonal Courts since we don’t know any canon gay characters. Everyone is very respectful of Thesan. His lover stood beside him at the High Lords meeting and not even Beron made a nasty remark and he’s a dick to most.
Also I don’t understand why Morrigan, in her own words, is stringing Cassian and Azriel along. She knows she’s doing it but why? She could reject them like any straight woman would, tell them they’re nothing more than family to her, but she doesn’t. Especially Cassian, whom she acts territorial over when it comes to Nesta. She claims she doesn’t want to hurt them but she is hurting them every day until they finally just give up and move on. She says she loves them like family, that she cares so much, but she lets them fawn over her with hope in their hearts.
It has been more than 500 years since Mor’s engagement to Eris and her family cruelly abusing her. In all that time, how has she not healed enough to be open with the family she claims to be comfortable with? What is stopping her from coming out??? This feels like some contradicting writing from SJM…

I love the theory that Helion might be Eris’s father because they both have amber eyes, but I can’t help but think about how much more devastating it is if he isn't.
On the day of his birth, Eris's amber eyes shine up at the Lady of Autumn—such a familiar shade that her heart wonders.
But no. They're not the same gold. They don't hold the same warmth. Fire is no match for the sun.
Sometimes she pretends, though. She tells herself that his eyes are gold because his father's eyes are gold. It is easier to love him this way.
As he grows, traces of Beron etch themselves into his face. His jaw is sharp, his nose narrow. Cruelty drips like poison from his tongue. She holds room for him in her heart, but he will never be the son she would have chosen.
Centuries later, Lucien has come and gone. Sunrise, sunset. But Eris remains.
And when his amber eyes turn on her with anger, or hate, or—worst of all—the cold detachment she taught him, her pain is twofold. They're not the same gold, but they're close enough to rouse sleeping memories. Close enough to haunt her like a ghost.

The Tragedy of Lady Autumn 🍂
Sometimes I think the fandom forget how truly sad Lady Autumn’s story is.
And no, I’m not just talking about her being forced to live far from her mate or being married to a tyrant who never deserved her.
I’m talking about her children.
She watched her sons grow up into shadows of their father, mirrors of a man who never showed them love, only violence and legacy.
And even when she knew they were going down the wrong path, what mother wants to see her children turn cruel?
What mother wants to watch her children try to kill one another?
Because yes, two of her sons went after Lucien. And no matter how twisted their motives were, they were still her babies.
And Lucien... he had no choice. It was either kill or be killed.
Can you imagine what it does to a mother to know one of her sons died, killed by her youngest, the only one who escaped that toxic legacy?
without forgetting the son Tamlin killed.
We know Tamlin didn’t have a choice, he had to kill him because that son was going to kill Lucien.
But still… that was her son.
No matter how twisted or cruel he became, he was still someone she carried, raised, loved.
Losing a child like that, it leaves a pain that never really goes away.
And for it to happen like that... gods, it’s just heartbreaking.
Lady Autumn’s whole life is a quiet tragedy.
She is away from her mate (still sus about helion btw he's funny yeah but I don't trust him as a partner) and married to a tyrant abusive man
She’s surrounded by sons turning into their father, losing one to exile, two to death, watching the rest grow colder and more distant. (Well maybe she see some hope in eris)
She’s not just a victim of Beron; she’s a mother who’s been grieving alone for years.
And that just makes me really sad.

One of my big issues with this series is the toe dip into real world issues but picking and choosing the parts then discarding them again. They have no lasting impact because they’re just throwaways
- Feyre has PTSD from the colour red isn’t mentioned in later books and no issues with Mor wearing red
- Feyre’s illiteracy is magically “cured” with a few sentences and never touched on again.
- Tamlin has PTSD but actually he deserves to suffer whilst also being a useless high lord whose decimated court deserves better
- Feyre is horrified by the tithe in spring but seeing Illyrians living in poverty while she has a whole room of tiaras doesn’t cause her any guilt
- Nesta is an alcoholic who has no withdrawal symptoms and everybody continues to drink around her
- Nesta is using sex as a coping mechanism but as long as it’s with Cassian cope away, girl 🥵!
- Hotlines for abuse in a book but the second abuser is hot as hell and he does these things because he loves her
Where are the lingering effects of war? Of seeing hundreds die? Why can’t Feyre still practise reading and writing or feel conscious about her abilities? Where is the guilt of living with such wealth after a life of poverty? Why doesn’t their trauma bubble up in unexpected moments and they suffer setbacks in recovery? Because the author tries to write deep scenes but half-asses it all

Can I be honest for a minute?
I DON'T want a Eriel book. Or a Gwynriel one. Or even Elucien. Actually, I don't want any new ACOTAR book written by SJM. I don't trust her anymore after ACOSF.
I hated that book, it felt like a parody of the series. And NO it wasn't because Nesta was the main character —I love her, she's my girl. It's about SJM writing a beautiful, layered arc for her new protagonist while butchering literally everyone else.
ACOSF's Cassian? Not my Cassian. ACOSF's Rhys? not my Rhys. ACOSF's Feyre? NOT MY FEYRE. Even Amren, who doesn't do anything felt completely out of character. LIKE, WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? WHO LET THEM IN? GET THEM OUT!!! 😭😭
I genuinely think that SJM cannot write character development without surrounding the "developing character" with a cast of suddenly horrid people. She kinda did the same thing with Feyre, but back then we didn't know Tamlin, Elain or Nesta as well as we do with the IC now.
So no, I don't want any other characters to receive the ACOSF treatment™. I'd rather read fanfic until the end of my days.

Thinking about how, Rhysand, just months ago, felt Feyre was too young, too bright and full of life to be shackled to someone old like him. Thinking about how Feyre has been parenting people since she was a child, scraping together food, fighting beasts, hunting in the freezing cold, and how, even during her pregnancy, during labor, during the moment she was supposed to be cared for… she was parenting again. Thinking about how she's still so young, and Feyre wanted just a few centuries with Rhysand. Just some peace alone with her mate.
Thinking about how Rhysand was pale, shaky and not smiling for hours after Nyx’s birth. Thinking about Feyre being forced to lie naked and give birth in front of everyone, assisted by an incompetent healer. Thinking about Azriel and Cassian’s combined fourteen siphons breaking while they tried to hold Rhys back. Thinking about Feyre in pain, about to die again, not just alone, but dying with her husband and baby after giving and giving so much since she was a child. Thinking about Rhysand saying everything he loves has a tendency to be taken away from him, and it coming true again, even after he did everything in his power to stop it. Thinking about how Feyre wasn’t even allowed to be held by Rhysand in her perceived last moments. Thinking about how the childbirth that was supposed to be beautiful, something they had been building up for years since KOA, turned into something absolutely traumatic again, with betrayals among people who were supposed to love each other.
Thinking about how the reader, who spent this whole journey with Feyre, isn’t even given her thoughts after finding out she, her baby, and her mate are all going to die again. After being told in a disgusting manner that the family she thought she’d finally found doesn’t care if she dies and being sneered at. After hearing that the man she loves above all else doesn’t care that she’s going to die. After realizing that the blood and found family she sacrificed herself for, again and again, did absolutely nothing to help her.
Yeah, I still hate Sarah for this.

But hear me out: it's also a lovers to enemies.
The only Emerie and Mor book I would read is the one where Emerie starts the Civil War in the Night Court, liberates the Illyrian women and has a long cinematic sword fight with Mor that ends with Mor's gory death. In mud. A sword fight during a fuckass rain. Preferably with beheading. Poetic cinema 👌

Flying bat
Ok, I have just found out how bats learn to fly...
Not surprising that they have flattened noses, because to learn to fly they throw themselves into the unknown and crash into the ground or walls or trees around them.
This biologist explained that it's pretty normal for them to have broken faces because of this...
I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT THE ILLYRIANS, THREE IN PARTICULAR

I'm gonna gain enemies by saying this but I'm tired.
Can we please retire "War of Hearts" from every single ACOTAR playlist in existence??
Like I get it. It's sexy. It's dramatic. It's emotionally devastating. It's Malec. It feels like being a Romantasy reader during 2015.
But I swear on my life, if I hear one more time Ruelle's entire discography in a "Acotar vibes"/"Begin mated to x vibes" playlist, I'm gonna crush out.
Absolutely no hate to the queens who love her —I DO TOO. This is a Ruelle appreciation blog. But not every character gives those vibes. IN MY HUMBLE OPINION.

the way sjm writes smut shaming/promiscuity is kinda hilarious because its written so conservative leaning while somehow also trying to appear woke
like Bryce has "sexual liberation" but then she has practical strangers calling her a half breed whore (or that one time shes called a skank. that was WILD) every other page
but then acotar u have feyre who sleeps with an engaged man who then goes on to slut shame her sister for sleeping around. and also you have IC members who do the same thing despite engaging in meaningless sex themselves
like especially Amren is written as a staunch conservative while trying to be woke its so funny

My beige flag is pretending that ACOSF never happened in the canon. Like. At all. I cannot stand the writing and the character inconsistencies, plus the sheer amount of unneeded smut 🥲
