We’re a few weeks into the Spring anime season and with it comes new adaptations, returning favorites and the ever present Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood fans dedicating all their time and energy into review bombing any show that comes close to or surpassing it as the number one show on MyAnimeList. One show that has caught a lot of attention, for both good and bad, has been Skip and Loafer. How is it though that this lighthearted slice of life is a seinen though? A demographic known for dark, gritty and violent? Well we take a look at the relationship between the calming effects of iyashikei media and how that plays into seinen and slice of life as a whole.

Anime and Manga have long had the argument over demographics? What are they? Why do they matter? Why does this keep happening over and over again? Well I’m here to break down the history of demographics, explain some common misconceptions surrounding them and talk about why they matter in the grand scheme of things.

Hey everyone,

So as you might be aware, I got COVID after Christmas. Tested negative 8 days later and after getting caught up on my IRL work, which was a bit of a nightmare, I finished up my magical girl video. Problem is, Toei blocked it over and over again to the point where I need to re-edit the video after 12 attempts.

The good news/bad news, is that I have a few bonus videos I’ll be releasing on Monday (which will be a surprise topic) and Wednesday (on demographics). The Monday video got corrupted a few times due to wind and power outages, so the editing will be a bit jank/basic, but it should still be interesting. The demographic video will be fun.

As for the magical girl video, I’m hoping for Saturday so I can have a week of videos out for people to catch up on so I can get back to my regular release schedule, but if not, it’ll be the Saturday after.

Sorry again about the delay, and thanks for 500 subscribers and a ton of recent Tumblr followers. It’s nice that even with a break, the audience is still there.

Sketch for an upcoming model I’ll be using in January. This one might get some traction since it has quite a lot of pose variety and the school uniform could use a break every now and again. Any guesses on what the outfit design might be referencing so far?

Magical Girl Deep Dive coming the 30th. Looking forward to that releasing, even if I might have to trim some footage due to Toei being a tad…litigious. Either way, should be fun.

New video is up, covering the history of rom com in anime and manga, how shojo dominated the genre for years and how shonen and seinen have taken it over and turned it into something else entirely. We analyze the male and female gaze and the impact they can have on the quality of a show. Rom coms have changed, but has it been for the better?
