* ted !
❝ i figure it wouldn’t be a disservice to show lads around her what football is, since everyone is all hung up on QUIDDITCH. might be good to take everyone’s minds off the damn tryouts. think they’d let us set up a game by the lake? teach this wizards a thing or two about how to get down and dirty. ❞
* beck !
he couldn’t help the smile that surfaced , an amused head shake breaking his nonchalance as he readjusted his sunglasses . another jab at quidditch how clever , ted . but still he laughed , as he normally did when the boy made some semblance of a joke . that’s what friends did , right ? because merlin knew they weren’t anything more . ❛ don’t think that’s something ya gotta ask . just grab a football and give it a go . . . but eh , i call opposite team . ❜

* amelia !
in the school’s grand entrance, amelia had taken a pause from the brusque chaos of the castle’s usual morning’s flow to tackle a cork board hung outside the hall’s doors. between the old hogsmeade announcements and lost and found notices, there was a bright band poster stuck fast with a charm. amelia was busy peeling at the edges and tapping her wand against its corners with different spells in hopes of making a difference. when a student stepped near, whether on purpose or accident, she turned to them, her expression expectant, as if she had been waiting for them all along. ❛ hi— morning. can you hold these for a moment ? i’ll be forever in your debt. ❜ it was hard to tell if she was exaggerating, holding out a stack of flyers with a bold call to arms for the rights of goblins splashed across the top.
* beck !
there was a myth traveling around , ridiculous in nature , that beck macmillan never slept . it was a rumor that he laughed at , but understood to a certain degree . he would rise every morning before the sun , running around the pitch as if his movements were the ones pulling it further up and into the sky . so it was no surprise that he was up and walking around , sweat dripping down his forehead as he turned a corner to see amelia bones . ❛ oh ! uh . . . ❜ he didn’t say yes , but his outstretched arms said differently the boy gladly taking the stacks of paper . beck couldn’t help but study the features on the page , his brow furrowed as he scanned the words . ❛ goblins , huh ? is there a petition or anything ? what is this ? ❜

* andromeda !
IT HAD TAKEN FAR TOO LONG FOR THE SPIKED punch to hit her system, a low thrumming in her veins a testament to just how many goblets she’d had. not nearly enough to join the sea of people on the dance floor, no; that was far too close to her parents, but enough that she’d left the outskirts of the party to wander near the games. her gaze flitted to and fro, taking in the cards and the dice as they reflected in the light, her interest going to the table where she’d spotted a familiar face. “oh no, i think you’d have more luck between the two of us,” andromeda answered, peering over back’s shoulder to watch the dealer. “how do you play?’
* beck !
andromeda black had a nasty habit of always looking beautiful . he used to tell her he felt sorry for everyone else , as all the attention would undoubtedly fall to the middle sister whenever she would enter a room . it was unavoidable and it seemed like that evening did nothing but prove the fact . he vaguely remembered his friends going nuts when he told them about their break-up . they seemed more heartbroken than he did , shouting in question over how he could ever let a girl like her go . they still couldn’t seem to wrap their heads around it . ❛ self-deprecating . that’s a new color on ya . ❜ he grinned from ear to ear , happily stepping aside as he offered her his old seat . ❛ all you gotta do is count . c’mon , give it a try . i’ll help ya . ❜

* lily !
lily evans has never been one for gambling , though now she wonders if that’s simply because she has never had the opportunity . she of course knows of it’s famed appeal —– o siren call , making beggars of the richest men . drink in hand , she surveys the room . there’s no doubt that she’s intrigued . oh no , that much is evidenced by the observant ( almost studious ) look , the mischievous smirk which seems permanently plastered across red - painted lips . as she approaches a nearby table , she can’t help but quirk a brow at the other’s words . “ wouldn’t know you see , ‘ve never actually tried my hand at it before —– ”
“ —– but then , you know what they say about beginner’s luck . ” and similarly , liquid courage . a grin , inviting . what good is making a fool of herself if no one’s there to witness ? “ wouldn’t mind a pointer or two , while you’re offering . ”
* beck !
lily evans . practically a household name , that girl . of course she would walk with an unparalleled confidence , a trait he was unsure she even noticed . to him , she seemed untouchable ; whether or not she thought the same thing was a mystery in itself . people weren’t always who they appeared to be . case in point : beck macmillan . ❛ pointers ? easy . ❜ he motioned for her to take a seat before taking his place behind the chair . ❛ whether they’ll do ya any good , i can’t say . ❜ a chuckle slipped free , almost breathless in nature as he eyed her money . ❛ now this is a low stakes table , which means the minimum buy-in is 2 galleons . alec will trade in your money for chips . then when ya got ‘em , place two right there . yeah , right there . ❜ a woman looked their way with disgust etched across her features , clearly annoyed by their presence . beck ignored it , keeping a smile present in hopes that lily wouldn’t see . everyone was a beginner at one point or another. .

* hestia !
Hestia raised an eyebrow, watching the game. She didn’t look…awful in the blue dress her aunt had picked out for her, but this was decidedly out of her comfort zone. She was still trying to figure out how exactly to play when the person closest to her gave up. Darn. She gave him a smile she hoped looked smooth, “Yeah, lucky I don’t have Balls then.” She grinned. Yes, nailed it. That sounded so smooth. Unfortunately she didn’t look where she was going and tripped on the hem of her dress. Damn heels. Why had she thought she could wear these. “I’m okay!” She said, popping back up and smoothing out her dress.
* beck !
he smiled , repeating the words in his head as he tried to figure out their meaning . the pessimist in him was paranoid , but the optimist in him hid this fact . ❛ whoa ! ❜ he lunged forward in an attempt to help her , the confusion causing him to react seconds too late and , therefore , missing his opportunity . still the boy tried helping her up , a pure mixture of amusement and concern now taking control of his features . ❛ you sure ? ❜ he chuckled kindly , making light of the situation as to not cause embarrassment . ❛ i gotta say , you sure know how to make an impression . ❜ elderly folk around them continued to whisper amongst themselves , eyes shooting back at the girl as beck offered another smile . ❛ that was the coolest thing to happen all night . ❜

* regulus !
there is no suitable way to explain how losing the game will cause disquiet in the most noble house of black, and he dashes the very thought of broaching the topic. instead he shits a shoulder in what might be a shrug that has a spatter of stars swirling about his coat. “i never learned to play.” it’s true, though not his true reason. he feels horribly vulnerable here, in the middle of the room, with macmillan smiling one of those quidditch-star-smiles. it feels wrong. regulus lets his hands fall to his pockets. “i believe it was intended for them, yes,” something about students getting to see each other, he’s sure. in truth - regulus would give anything for the parents to leave. head tilts at the last statement beck makes and lips press for a long moment before he shifts his weight. “it’s far too gaudy,” a lie, but again - not wholly. the decor is a bit much for his tastes, “one would think hogwarts could hire an -” he fumbles for a second, “ - event planner with a higher level of taste.”
* beck !
there was an odd mixture of surprise and predictability in their conversation . beck could’ve guessed that the boy never learned to play , and yet there he stood , a look of subtle shock painted beautifully across his features . maybe because shock seemed less offensive than the alternative . he couldn’t know for sure . ❛ I like it . ❜ he admitted calmly , allowing his golden hues to drift thoughtfully over their surroundings . it was certainly nicer than most of the parties he’d been too and , feeling a little out of sorts as a result , he thought it best to take it in stride . ❛ but that’s not what i meant , ❜ he replied with a smile , his attention falling back on the boy . ❛ i wasn’t asking about the decorations , i was asking about you . if not gambling , or dancing , or quidditch , then what ? ❜ perhaps it was too quick , his hunch that regulus hated the sport , but beck worked under the belief that he would’ve seen him at a game had the youngest black actually enjoyed it . ❛ or is that a need to know basis ? ❜
