2 different ideas for how I’m going to present my work at the end of year show. I’m drawn more to the concept idea of the second one, as I think the large images will be more engaging to the audience and draw more people in.

Workshops
During the FMP we had useful workshops for each pathway. Fashion promotion has two informative workshops on using lightroon and inDesign. I have in previous project already had these workshops however it was good to refresh my knowledge on using them, despite using neither in my project.

Final edited images for my project and also what I will be displaying at the end of year show. When it came to editing photos I simply used photoshop to play around with the brightness and contract of the images and in some cases lightened the shadows. I used the spot healing tool to remove any blemishes in the models skin but not much editing was neeeded as I wanted to keep it as natural as possible.

Day before the hand in I just arranged my PDF folder and ensure I had all the paperwork in there and completed. I also finished some remaining work in my sketchbook and on the Wednesday night had finished my critical review which I then added to my files. I also mounted my images onto a1 paper to be assessed and with help from Roz had her choose what images would pair together well. I also had a last tutorial with Joel to look over my work and see what remaining things needed to be done and just check over my work before the final day. I attached the labels of my name and course to my work and then further put some of my final images and then images from my failed shoot on my memory stick as well with having contact sheets in my PDF folder.

Today was the new photoshoot day, I ensured I had correct lighting and had one light box facing the models from the right and then two monolights (which name I learned) one from the left and then one further back from the left. I also made sure the models stood further away from the white backdrop so no shadows were created. The shoot was a success with all the images appearing clearer due to the lighting and went a lot better then first time round. I promptly began choosing my images and then editing them this day so by the end of the day I could print them out.

I turned to Rob for help with editing my photos with shadows, he had the idea of simply using the spot healing brush tool to blemish the shadows out. This worked to an extent as I learned on the darker shadows it would only smudge them and make them worse. I decided I had to re-do the photoshoot if I wanted to produce the best results and so decided to hire the studio out Tuesday morning and do it again. I focused my attention for the rest of the day on starting my critical review.

2-3 May
I began editing my photos on Wednesday, I picked out the images I liked the most and came in on my day off to start the process to give myself enough time. I edited the images to an extent before realising I had a problem with shadows appearing behind my models and reflected on their faces, I decided the next day I would ask for a tutors help to try and rectify this. The following day I again spent all day editing in photoshop, trying ways to remove the shadows. I used quick selection tool and cut around the image and then put this onto a background. The shadows was removed however the image looked fake as it was clear to see it had been cut out from the hair details. We tried another method of creating a background gradient layer of a darker to lighter grey. Then creating layers and using the lasso tool to cut out the shadows from the image and then bring the gradient layer forward, copy this and then paste it onto the shadow. Again this was time consuming and still failed to work.

PHOTOSHOOT DAY! I hired out the studio all day to make sure I had enough time to style my models and take the images. I had both models come in and I spent about half an hour styling each model precisely to how I envisioned, similar to the looks I included in my sketchbook for my moodboard. However, we shared the studio with other students who however was using the light box and studio lights. We only had the LED lights that was attached to the ceiling but however carried on with the shoot anyways. We spent time getting the lighting correct and one of the lights in particular created a yellow light which then affected the models skin tone, with help from Joel we corrected this and I carried on with the shoot.

First day back we had a lecture with Chris in the afternoon telling us all the details about the hand in lecture (below is notes from the lecture). I also took today to fill in any class activity sheets I had missed out on and ensured I filled them all out to put in my PDF folder.

Over Easter Break
Over the Easter break I have spent more time looking into my final photoshoot as I have carried out a lot of research already. I looked at using photoshop in particular as this is a skill I could always develop upon. I have also looked at lighting so I can get s better understanding of how to use lighting to my advantage to improve my images. Also spent time looking at how androgyny and being transgender are different as many have common misconceptions about the two being the same.

Today I need to hire out my camera equipment so I ensure I have it in time for when I get back to uni to shoot my final images. I also am going to look at feminity In fashion against androgyny in the industry.

I’ve looked into androgyny in fashion and now want to look at it from another perspective outside the fashion industry, in pop culture. I’ve previously looked into icons of androgyny and some of the names; Grace Jones, Mick Jagger and David Bowie were all singers so today I look at how androgyny and the music industry coincide.

Today I wanted to look into the future of fashion and if gender neutral clothing was the way forward. A article in particular gave me the inspiration for this after I read that John Lewis have abolished girls and boys labels on clothing. So wanted to research around if this was the future now and we would no longer have male or female clothing, rather items of clothing that could be stylish and yet still worn by all, no matter what gender.

With having to change my shoot plan, I thought it was a good opportunity to create a moodboard which I hadn’t done for the previous plan. Looking at images I would want to achieve, makeup styles and hairstyles alike to what I wanted to create on my models. It was a good opportunity to visually plan my outcomes and very insightful in getting an idea of how many photos could turn out.

I took today to back on my work and write about what I done well and what still needed to be done. I also mindmapped what still needs to be done so I clearly set myself tasks to complete for the rest of my project. I then went onto re-plan my photoshoot after having my male model unexpectedly drop out so now I will have to restyle what I had originally planned.
