Found this young chipmunk stuck in a bucket with like 2 inches of water in it last night. Put him in a dry bucket with some seeds and left him in the rabbit shed overnight to dry (heat wave so I didn’t bother trying to dry him). This morning all the seeds were gone and no trace of him so I guess he was independent and able to get out himself. The dirt on the bucket might have given him enough grip. 😅

It ended up being squamous cell carcinoma of the skin surprisingly. Seems kind of unusual for location from what I saw online. Which knock on wood has a pretty good prognosis for us doing nothing but looking out for new growths. Stitches out tomorrow.

My poor old dog had this tumour grow in three months… it was finally removed a week ago and we’re waiting for the histo but the vet said it looked really cancerous. Still with the mass off her appetite and activity have come back to what they were before it appeared, and she looks like she’s gained back the kg she lost the last month of having it. 🥺 All I can think is that it must have been really painful for her to have it hanging. Still hope it isn’t cancer or maybe the surgery actually removed all the cancer cells which is unlikely. She’s a 10 year old boxer so she’s made it pretty far as it is.

progress of designing a person i can animate for my game. this was the most revolting task ever. i still don't know if i should change the hands. mostly been working on the face and a little bit of body refining.
this is the not zoomed in version. i think i need to shorten the torso a bit still or add more leg.
vs what I started with:

In the final years the PhD student changes role in the ecosystem significantly. Had a presentation today where instead of fearing questions I asked the audience do THEY think what I did was valid. Do THEY have critiques and suggestions. Do THEY see any holes in my statistics.
I’m the predator now.
I was sad there weren’t more critiques of my work.
#grad school#I believe in my data and I want people to tear into it so I can fix it or learn how to defend it

people are using this for therapy by the way
if you cannot afford therapy, do not use this. not having therapy is a better option than an algorithm that decides what order to put words in that it thinks will please you best

A long long time ago, before we had apps and algorithms telling us what to listen to, it was sort of difficult to find new indie music to listen to. I become a follower of this guy I discovered online who would post monthly downloadable playlists of indie songs. This was mostly over the years 2008-2009. One month he had updated us that the playlists had to stop temporarily because he was going to jail (unclear if it was due to the music pirating which was possible back then). After a few months of silence I stopped checking for updates and never went back despite some of my all time favourite songs coming from these playlists.
It’s interesting in hindsight I guess to think about how much an internet stranger can shape a part of who you are as a person, over a decade later I still listen to songs I found on these playlists regularly.
In terms of internet space lingo we could call this curation, where a person with whom you can personally relate to will introduce you to new things in a related sense. and I’d like to add that they are not doing this for monetary gain/advertisement. Some people think with the death of google and the onslaught of algorithms that don’t really understand why they’re telling you to try certain things, that curation is due for a large scale revival. (Especially now with that new website substack that the younger kids are latching on to).
Anyways, I decided to look up the playlist and I found it’s still being produced to this day, Blalock’s Indie Rock Playlist;
