CHANNA HORWITZ AT THE WHITNEY

I visited the Whitney Museum to see the Whitney Biennial and was mesmerized with Channa Horwitz's work. I had never seen her work before, but learned that she made paintings, drawings and installations using a precise vocabulary/process and a "system of notations based on the numbers 1 through 8, each assigned its own color." This work in particular reminds me of intricate bead work, and a very colorful motherboard of sorts.

BIKES BIKES BIKES!

In honor of and in support for my friend Holly, who is undergoing treatment at Dana Farber for Hodgkins Lymphoma, I am riding in the Pan-Mass Challenge this August! Holly rode in the bike race last summer with her mom and I cheered them on at the finish line in Provincetown. It was an amazingly inspiring day, and since she can't ride this year, I'm joining her mom, step-dad and the rest of the Riverside Rockets bike team in honor of her! So from now until August, my weekends consist of bike rides - many many many bike rides. If you'd like to donate to my fundraising efforts for the PMC, click here!

SILK SCREENING AND BIRD WATCHING

A few weekends ago I took a silk screening class with an artist friend, Tyler Lafreniere, in his studio. The two day workshop consisted of prepping and exposing our screens, learning the history of silk screening, and, of course, actually printing some images! The image of the person bird watching is originally from a personal art project I created many years ago.

THE JEWELRY COLLECTION OF BARBARA BERGER @ MAD

  I recently visited the Museum of Art & Design in NYC and discovered the astonishing costume jewelry collection of Barbara Berger.  As a lover of all things novelty, this whimsical Schiaparelli ostrich lariat really tickled my fancy! I love that museums make these vintage treasures more accessible, but all the gorgeous clothing and accessories stuck behind glass also breaks my heart just a little. Someone somewhere should be having a marvelous time wearing these flirty bobbled ostriches!  Someone… like me!
