Advertisement/posters
Looking at some of headspaces previous posters, i found it difficult to find many. i realised the posters they have created before are very minimalist but most of the time have a fair bit of writing, i know from research gen-z usually loose interest of something if it takes longer to understand , within 30-60 seconds. this is due to the heavy use of social media short clip videos which are at a maximum of around 2 minutes. So for my posters i knew i needed an eye catching image with very minimal reading for the viewer to do if iwanted to intrigue the correct audience. (the next two images below are images created by headspace, not me)

Next, is when i began sketching ideas making sure it had minimal writing and a call to action somewhere on the page, or something that told the user what it was easily, i knew a lot of colour would help with the success of the posters too. to help attract genm0z i wanted to include small puns to create some sort of connection with the consumer and headspace to make it feel more inviting and relatable to the age group.

Now i began designing, at first i was going doesn't the route of using their posters as a based but didn't like how it was turning out.

poster 1- Grow with student life
Fore this poster i used the idea of a flower growing to play on the saying 'you'll blossom' as i heard this a lot from family then first coming to university myself as doing knew things makes people grow in good ways, i wanted this welcoming feeling to resonate through the poster. bright colours and the main title is what will catch the eye of the viewer, and the bottom corner tells the reader where they can get headspace the main call to action.
Poster 2- Float to the top with less stress
For this poster i created a graduation hat to insinuate getting to the top of your studies and achieving a degree with the help of headspace to lessen academic stress, another way to interest the viewer with bright colours and the hat will be an easy tell tale sign to the viewer that its aimed towards students.
Poster 3- Feel closer to yourself at university
Often times people go to university and find it hard to know who they are and tend to 'lose themselves' especially when mental health becomes poor and they begin to struggle from different factors. this poster is supposed to provide comfort to any students that may feel that way and encourage then to use headspace for help.

Colouring book colour sketch and design:
As part of my outcome i wanted to create a small care package to go with headspace to have more of a connection between headspace and their customers. As a part of that care package i wanted to design and illustrate my own colouring book, this will help me improve my illustration skills, layout and book cover design.
i made a series of sketched ideas and coloured them roughly using procreate.

Website improvements and final outcomes
After completing the app i knew what i needed to also add to the website.
there are two reasons i didn't add the exact same things from the app not the website for one most gen-z/students wont go to a website before and app as using and app has way more convenience. and not all sections would work successfully in website form.
similarly to how i created the app my process was plan, grey s ale then colour. i done the same for the website and once i managed to create a layout and s clear navigation for the user i created the coloured versions.

Full idea outline
After further research into headspace i asked my self the 5 ws and 1 h
What do i want to do?
- Add a feature catered to gen-z students, in the already existing headspace app
- Added features on the website to be cohesive with app changes
- social media posts promoting the concept to gen-z
- a short instagram/tiktok reel
- Poster 3x to promote it to students in places they use often, buses,bu stops, schools colleges and university campus’
- illustrations for Newley designed content that is cohesive to headspace’s existing design style but unique to the idea of being for students
- a physcial product sent to users ‘care package’ of some sort
Why do I want to do this?
- Headspace are one of the worlds leading meditation and mental well being apps right now and are already very well known.
- headspace have LOADS on offer but nothing dedicated to students unique experiences or needs but more for a vast customer base
- there is existing websites and services for students but isn’t well known, or doesn’t offer the thing I wasn’t to offer at all or on a good level.
- im not ‘rebranding’ headspace I wasn’t to improve them to be more inclusive for their younger audience.
Where will i promote?
- Social media ie:instagram, TikTok
- posters around schools and campus’ or public transport
- student services within the academic side of things will recommend headspace to students as a form of help outside of them and it’ll be spoke about more often.
When will it be needed or used by the consumers?
- when depression sinks in most young people turn to ‘bed rotting’ a slang explanation for staying in bed and ‘doom scrolling’ on social media for days on end until they begin to feel less sad, lonely or depressed (more often than not this will only make their mental well-being worse) seeing ads on social media about what headspace can offer them will encourage them to seek help through headspace.
- when a student may have had a well-being session with a well-being staff member it will be mentioned as part of their process to help the student struggling
- tutors will mention it and often have lectures on mental health and well being (online and in person for those struggling with anxiety) ion porter to promote it as much as possible to lower the percentage of students struggling in silence.
How will i do this?
- use pre-existing branding , illustrations, services app and website b it improving it in the areas needed and adding my touch.

Smiling mind- Smiling Mind is an Aussie mindfulness app designed to help users unwind and de-stress from the pressures of daily life. This one is more tailored to different age groups, though, which is helpful for younger users. Your child can choose their age group (e.g. 10-12), and access a range of different daily guided meditations and mindfulness programmes and exercises. It even has a 'Mindfulness in the Classroom' section for both pupils and teachers to use.
Rise up and recover- This app is designed for those in recovery from an eating disorder, or for anyone who is struggling with food, exercise and body-image issues. Rise Up + Recover allows your child to log their meals, emotions and behaviours, based on the self-monitoring homework aspect of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Your child can also save and share their logs on the app with their therapist if they're receiving treatment. Other features include motivational quotes and pictures that can be shared among users to create a positive and supportive community.
notOK- notOK is an innovative app for people in crisis - it's essentially a digital panic button. It's designed to get users immediate help and support when they need it via their trusted contacts. If your child suffers from depression or anxiety, asking for help isn't always the easiest thing. This app aims to make it easier. If they're not OK and need to reach out, they simply press the big red button on the app and it sends an alert to their selected trusted contacts to either text, call or come find them.
Happify- Happify helps users combat negative thinking and improve their emotional well-being; perfect for when your child is having a down-day or week and needs a pick-me-up with effective methods. It's packed with science-based activities and games, so you can improve your mood while having fun and thinking creatively. Happify focuses on positive thinking, stress management, building confidence as well as mindfulness.
Apps made for gen-z:
BeReal
BeReal is a commonly and well known app used amongst gen-z its all about being real and raw with what  you’re up to in the moment the notification goes off, no fake posts not filters just hoensty. The be real goes off once a day and you have to take. Front and back photo where this is uploaded of your friends to see, at the end of he year be real compieles all your real momenta into a slide show, creating memories along the way.
Be Authentic. The BeReal app encourages people to be their authentic selves by eliminating filters and the need to stage, overthink, or edit images.

Advocate for Mental Health.
What do cereal do right in terms of marketing to their target audience?
-Currently Be real don’t use or run adds on their platform, Users can enjoy an ad-free experience while browsing their friends' daily posts. This simplicity may be a critical factor in the app's popularity and growth, but it remains to be seen how BeReal will monetise its platform in the future.
Within two years from its release, after securing large amounts of venture capital funding, BeReal was able to implement a unique marketing strategy in early 2022. The company started using college campus ambassador programs to market itself to this social media savvy and influential crowd.

Headspace have an Instagram account as part of their social media presence, this is one way ill be also improving to market towards young people more as social media plays a big part in successful marketing to gen-z.

Primary research; Survey fro students and yougn people 16-25 year olds
To gain some more insight and research information for what exactly gen-z/students would look for in an app in order to help them, i created a survey.
Question 1: on a scale of 1-10 how important is mental well-being to you in your daily life?
33.33%- in the middle of not important and very important 
33.33%-  more important
16.67%- important
16.67%- very important 
Thoughts:
The lack of importance that young people/students have for their own mental health and well-being says that apps to help them aren't marketed towards them enough or not successfully, as they don't make it a priority,this is something that i need to integrate into my changed to make it a daily priority for them.
Question 2: How often do you take part in mindfulness activities or meditation?
66.67%- not often
33.33%- never
Thoughts:
Almost 100% of the participants don't ever take part of mindfulness activities of meditation to help their mental health and well-being. 60% said not often and they probably dont make it a priority either when they do.
Question 3: whats the biggest challenges you face when it comes to managing stress and anxiety as a student?
40%- balancing university/college work with social life
40%- difficulty maintaining healthy lifestyles
20%- other
Thoughts:
Most students said that they struggle most with balancing student life with work and social life and being abe to maintain a healthy lifestyles, maybe a feature being added to the app like a shedual planner, eating reminder or healthy eating tips and trips will help students stay organised and in control of stress and anxiety.
Question 4: what specific feature or tools would you like to see in mindfulness app to help students?
Bedtime storys, breathing regulators, calming noises/ white noise
Reminders to tak time for myself and to take a break 
Time management help
Good motivation tools

Thoughts:
This question asked exactly what students/young people would find helpful and important in a mental health app they using- would an entire app under the name of headspace make it easier to incorporate all the needs of s student combined with headspaces offers in order to create an app that's completely catered to students and young people for all their needs.
Question 5:  How likely ae you too use a mindfulness app that offers personalised mindfulness routines and challenges for students?
Most participants are very likely 
Thoughts:
This confirms that headspaces existing features of daily meditation will definitely help students and be useful.
Question 6: would you prefer mindfulness exercises that are integrated into your daily routine?
100% yes 
Thoughts:
A daily routine/planner would be able to include the mindfulness exercises as well as meditation to help students also.
Question 7: How important is it for you to have a sense of community and peer support within mindfulness apps/platforms?
60%- important 
40%- very important 
Thoughts:
A section for peer support and experience needs to be added to the app as this is something that's come apparent in a lot of my research that students and young people look for in apps and think it's helpful and important.
Question 8: what types of content would find most helpful in a mindfulness app?
Hygiene encouragement reminders 
Stress relief 
Meditation or yoga
Stress relief tips, on hand study tips, motivation boosters 
Thoughts:
Hygiene encouragement and reminders- when people struggle with mental health staying on top of personal hygiene and having the motivation to look after yourself can be very rare and difficult to achieve, these reminders and encouragement would help young people overcome these important things in a day to day routine improving their mental and physical health at the same time.
Stress relief- Stress relief can be achieved with using the mindfulness activities and meditation tips provided through the app.
Meditation or yoga- this is also covered under the same services spoke about above.
Study tips, motivational boosters- Study tips with in the app in the form of notifications could help student stay focused and less distrated on social media incding the harmful side of social media lowering screen time. Motivational boosters can help with: keeping fit, eating healthy, mental and physcial health and daily self-care.
Question 9: are there any specific topics of themes related to mental health and mindfulness that you would like to see in an app?

A way to encourage anxious students to attend unimore often will help enhance their university experience and academic outcomes like grades and enjoyment.
Time planning will also help students with creating a good daily routine.

Having a social connection online can :ease stress, anxiety and depression, boost self-worth, provide comfort and joy, prevent. 
However, lacking strong social in person connections can pose a serious risk to mental and social health.

Many of us use social media as a “security blanket”. Whenever we’re in a social situation and feel anxious, awkward, or lonely, we turn to our phones and log on to social media. Of course, interacting with social media only denies you the face-to-face interaction that can help to ease anxiety.
An evil cycle:
When you feel lonely, depressed, anxious, or stressed, you use social media more often—as a way to relieve boredom or feel connected to others.
Using social media more often, though, increases FOMO and feelings of inadequacy, dissatisfaction, and isolation.
In turn, these feelings negatively affect your mood and worsen symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress.
These worsening symptoms cause you to use social media even more, and so the downward spiral begins

After the last tutorial i decided to go in the UI & UX direction leading me to the creation of an online platform. i still haven't gotten enough research or context for this to be my outcome and im starting to struggle as i know what i want to do but i dont actually know why and it is limiting my choices and my research abilities and any chance of my idea changing further down the line.
rich said " you need to narrow down your context and broaden your outcome possibility in order to give yourself room for the project to change in affect of the research you do and what you find out'
this helped me alot coz it made sense that the reason im struggling is that i was too set on an outcome that its limiting what i was going to research into and the possilitys, making it more difficult to research as i would end up only researching in the direction of the outcome i wanted instead of seeing what people wanted or what already exisits and then deciding.
from this point onwards i need to began researching into multiple subjects around gen-z, students and their mental health, exisitng platforms/ services, what student support already offer in univeristys and also do some primary research with actuakl student servces and students/ gen-z them-selfs through interviews.

After this tutorial i started to steer away from the animation idea abit, i wanted to try something new but i didnt actually feel excited or motivated by this project idea. i was worried about sticking to this idea and nit enjoying it a later down the line to end up regretting my desicion iof outcome.

UI & UX design
app and website creation
improving exisiting products
passoion of mentla health in young people
what i needed to do:
Get more research into my idea narrow it down massievly and research into that more to come to a solution instead of junoping to my solution/outcome before knowing what is needed and what would be successful.

Initial ideas
Briefing notes:
think about finding an old brief or creating my own (out of date it’s/d&ad briefs to work from) 
Approach it as a problem that needs to be resolved (problem, insight, solution/outcome.
Is my project personal meaning? Find a project that’s intriguing enough to enjoy and have passion for 
Be caution about choosing big issue subjects eg. Creating solutions for things that seem impossible 
Initial ideas:
close family death, grieving and normalising different types of grief 
Addiction/ parents with addiction/ growing up around addiction, talk about ways to help adults now that have grown up with addicted parents but now have parents who are clean. (Personal experience)
