It's real unfortunate that the Star Wars "no shoelaces" rule resulted in every healthcare worker in the Andor hospital scenes wearing those INSANE little sock-thin booties instead of literally anything that would keep you from wanting to die after standing for a 12 hour shift. Sneakers could not possibly have broken my immersion more than that did. 😬

I've waited years for Andor season 2 and it arrived yesterday so I want to write a quick report of how awesome episode 1 was, which I just watched tonight with my brother.
In the lead up to season 2, I knew that Andor season 1 is a top tier revolution themed story. It is absolutely in the top 10, maybe top 5 Star Wars content. And there's a lot of SW stories out there. When I watched season 1, I didn't know that it was going to be so good. SW stories are hit or miss. It's always a fun box of chocolates when I watch a SW story that is outside the core six movies. It wasn't until halfway through season 1 that I realized how high the quality of it was and what a jewel that season becomes as a chain in the link of a really core arc of the major SW story (Andor season 1 > Rogue One > A New Hope). The experience of beginning season 2 is delightfully different because now I know how good it could turn out to be. I've also been crossing my fingers with apprehension in hope that they don't drop the ball, pop the balloon, let it fall flat in season 2. HOWEVER. Upon six minutes into 2x1 I was STOLEN! Emotions were EVOKED. That tiny speech/pep talk Cassian gave that undercover rebel recruit? I'm gritting absolute teeth. And then the whole scene where Cassian got into the Imperial ship and backed it into a wall, spun it around, crashed it continually, stalled out in the hanger while Imperials surrounded him. MWAH. How many times have I watched a SW story and had to suspend my disbelief that a pilot could pilot a ship that quickly of which we had no prior witness to their ability to fly it. Even Luke made me wonder when he learned to fly. And if you're a rebel like Cassian, you're gonna be doing a lot of things for the first time in life or death situations, like flying a ship you've never flown before. So this made perfect sense. (Don't ask about Anakin's 9 year old crash combat flight in Phantom Menace, okay, that was awesome, I have it all justified in my mind using the Force and his innate talents + the fact that he did technically crash it helps.) Anyways. 2x1 has so far contained a ton of promise. I really enjoyed the flight sequences, the combat scenes, the engagement party and the secret political double agent scheming. And the Imperial scumbag conference was just as awful as it should be. DON'T YOU WANT TO FIGHT THESE BASTARDS FOR REAL? I hate the US fascist gov. Anyways.
Pasting my favorite dialogue from 2x1 below.
-Have you been part of this for very long? ( gasps ) I shouldn't ask. I'm sorry. -You're risking everything. You can ask what you want. -( sighs ) If I die tonight, was it worth it? You've done this before. You must have thought about it. -This makes it worth it. This. Right now. Being with you. Being here at the moment you step into the circle. Look at me. You made this decision long ago. The Empire cannot win. You'll never feel right unless you're doing what you can to stop them. ( softly ) You're coming home to yourself. You've become more than your fear. Let that protect you. -Thank you. -Okay.
This is status post first viewing of this episode. !!!!!

sometimes I just project shit onto characters to cope but SOMETIMES I'M ALSO RIGHT

I've only seen episode 1 so far but I'm really really hopeful about the intentionality behind their portrayal of Bix. it feels very purposeful to have her two main scenes be 1. showing that she is still severely not ok one year on from the trauma she suffered but also 2. no matter how severe a person's trauma, it's never their entire personality and they show she can still be capable and snarky and jokingly needling Wilmon about his girlfriend, she's still herself. she's still herself and also she's been forever changed and those things can coexist.

anyway can’t wait to see half the audience miss the entire point and not apply it to the current political climate :’)
Andor was so good it made me feel like it’s the first day of spring where the sun finally starts shining and the birds are singing and flowers are finally starting to bloom. like suddenly everything will be okay. that’s how good it was. andor my beloved you’ve done it again.

I’ve been a Star Wars fan since I was 9 and a woman since I was born and it’s nobody’s business how long I’ve been a sexual assault survivor, but the fact that Star Wars wrote a meaningful storyline for a character I love about the injustice of rape and sexual coercion is a today thing.
