12/28/17 A Look Back On 2017

Wow! Is the new year really coming in less then four days? Absolutely crazy how fast time flies! I must admit, I’m not totally surprised on how quick the end of the year came up. This has been no doubt the most eventful and craziest year of my life.

Here are a few statistics I came up with from my 2017...

2 AMAZING parents 1 stinky little brother 1 even stinkier (but very adorable) dog 4 jobs 2 schools 6 places I've never been before 5 vacations 2 trips to the hospital 5 concerts 1 move 1 new apartment 4 roommates 4 best friends 1 relationship 1 breakup 1215 hours binge watching on Netflix 56,143 minutes listened to on Spotify

56,143 minutes on Spotify?! WOW (low-key I thought it’d be WAY more then that)

Where do I even begin on how I feel about this year? This was the year I really felt my life get started; the year where I finally felt like I was growing up. I was in love--like actual REAL LOVE for the first time in my life and that was such an amazing journey in itself. I graduated high school, turned 18, and moved out to a completely different state--and a totally different culture from Orange County. I’d say those were the main highlights that this year has brought me. I know it may not seem like much but these were accomplishments that seemed nearly impossibly to reach a year ago. But I couldn’t have been happier with these choices I’ve made because it’s made me feel a feeling that’s best described as “feeling alive.” There was peak moments in this year where I felt like my life was given real meaning and I felt this new drive to discover who I was, or as I should say, continue to discover who I am. You know, those moments where your heart just stops in shock or races from an overwhelming feeling of joy. Or the first time you hear a song that you just know was written for you, even though there’s no possible way the band has acknowledgment of your existence?  Or just the feeling you get when everything is going your way and you know you’re doing life right...the glimpses in life when reality and dreams align, 

If anyone asked me what the most important part of this year was for me, I’d answer back it was the people in my life. i often find myself thinking about everyone that has been in my life since my earliest memories and continue to stay in my life, those who were in my life and had to leave, or perhaps those who had every opportunity to walk out of my life and chose to stay anyway. Those are the ones who I have found most admirable and who I consider to be angles without wings.  

i mean, what can i say? I’m a very blessed individual surrounded by so many people who choose to be a part of my life everyday and have been my rock throughout this insane year of 2017. I can’t wait to see what life has in store for me next year. I’m so proud of the person I’ve become and the way I watch myself handle problems. i’m really proud of the strength I’ve shown myself in moments where it was easier to be weak, and moments where I had to show more strength then I thought I had. 

FAVORITE ALBUM RELEASED IN 2017: What if Nothing by Walk The Moon

Favorite track from this record: Surrender 

All right, I know it’s not The Killers but hear me out. Yes, Wonderful Wonderful is a good album but is no where near as impressive as Battle Born was for me. I related with Battle Born and it just touched my hair in such a way that has many beautiful memories attached to it for me and I fall in love with the album every time I hear. I feel, in such a way, that Brandon Flowers is almost calling out to me and telling me stories to impart wisdom; a connection, if you will. I didn’t feel that same way with Wonderful Wonderful...but What if Nothing said and shared things that almost mirrored some of the same things I was going through. When I went home for Thanksgiving and found out that my best friend was into the album too, I knew that the star has aligned. 

FAVORITE MOVIE OF 2017: Wonder Woman

I know, I know, it’s not Star Wars...Trust me, this was not an easy pick. SOOO many great movies came out this year. Some of my other personal favorites from this year were Spider-man: Homecoming, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Baby Driver, Beauty and the Beast, and of course Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The main reason I decided to pick Wonder Woman is because this was probably the only movie this year I didn’t have any criticisms for and was totally satisfied walking away from the movie theater. Plus, what an AWESOME feminist icon!
