Actor Johnathan Joss was just murdered for being gay. On the first day of pride 2025. He was best known for playing John Redcorn on King of the Hill.
I had no idea he was gay but he was married to a man named Tristan Kern de Gonzales (on valentines day 2025!)

They lived in San Antonio Texas where his family is from and he grew up. He was 59.
In Janurary 2025 his home was burned down which made news. It killed some of his beloved dogs. He didnt elaborate beyond he believed it was arson (gofundme is still up and i suggest donating to help his funeral costs and his husband
)
Now we know he and his husband had been threatened by several neighbors for being queer. They told pigs, pigs being pigs did nothing before or after it happened.
Yesterday Joss and his husband went to check their mailbox wherein they found one of their dogs skulls (statement from his husband
)
As they weeped and mourned in shock, a neighbor, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, came out and aimed at de Gonzales…but Hoss jumped in front of the bullet and was instantly killed.
Ceja, homophobia murdering coward, tried to take off but de Gonzales had called pigs who vaguely tried to do something. He was arrested and his bail set for $200k. Or as my sister said who the fuck sets bail for a murderer?
San Antonio.
De Gonzales is clearly mourning, posting pics on Hoss’ fb page. This one really struck me

This is why we need pride people, and not rainbow capitalism. Please donate to the gofundme and let san antonio cops knows what you think. De Gonzales said multiple neighbors had threatened them…id like to see those people investigated for arson.
Go into pride with rage and knowing. Have joy, kiss puppies, dont bow to homophobes. And maybe enjoy a little king of the hill.

TIL that Gothic literature makes a distinction between “terror” and “horror.” Terror is the sense of dread and apprehension that precedes an experience, horror is the sense of revulsion after an experience.

Still occasionally thinking about the Rook origin stories for Thornes and Mercars, where it's not so much Varric spotting talent and initiative in this random person he's come across who kind of got inadvertently caught up in a bad situation and needs to lay low for a while, but Varric seeing some low ranking nobody turn around and give the direct orders they just received a double-middle-finger-salute, and thinking: "Yup. That's the one."

Posting faggot and queer like 2am gunshots to keep property values on my blog low and scare away assimilationist LGBTs who want to replace my empty lot full of native wildflowers with a 5-over-1 because they're too traumatized by their upbringing to accept the reality of our diverse marginalized community

Food
Based off a conversation @larknnightingale and I were having about the Trench Buddies 💜 This takes place early on in the two's friendship.
Zephyr belongs to @larknnightingale
By the time Nels was grabbing their ninth plate there was only one other person left in the kitchen. Zephyr sat alone at the table, slowly picking away at their meal, long after their Mourn Watch friends had left. The soldier felt awkward going back to their seat clear on the other side of the table so they set their fresh helping down across from the other elf and set down. Nels watched as Zephyr cut away a tiny bite of chicken that they proceeded to chew slowly. It reminded them of how new recruits tentatively picked at their field rations. Nels looked down at their own food in front of them; a towering bowl of egg fried rice and a portion of clear soup. At this point in the meal Nels was just trying to clear out the leftovers, but they figured the food seemed palatable enough. Zephyr took another small bite and Nels frowned a little.”
“Do you like the food alright?”
Zephyr looked up at Nels’ question but didn’t answer right away. They just continued to slowly chew their bite for a while until they finally swallowed. They looked back down at their plate and touched the chicken with their fork, “The butter sauce used for the chicken is well made. The rosemary and thyme do a good job elevating the flavor, though it would benefit from more garlic. The chicken itself is a little overcooked but not to an unpleasant degree—” Zephyr carried on describing each item on their plate like a mini report, describing each food’s texture and flavor profile. It was clear even to Nels which items they enjoyed and which ones they were only eating because it was already on their plate. Once they were done they looked back up at Nels, expecting an uninterested or bored expression at best. Instead they saw Nels with their elbows on the table, resting their chin on their hand, with eyes that said they were intently listening to each word.
“You really like food, huh?”
The question caught Zephyr slightly off guard, “Do you not?”
Nels just shrugged, “I don’t think about it much. I burn a lot of energy so I have to eat a lot to replace it—for me it is more about eating as much food as possible as quickly as possible.” they let out a short chuckle, “Besides, almost anything tastes better than some of the field rations I’ve eaten.”
“It’s that bad?”
Nels smiled and reached into their pocket and pulled out something wrapped in a handkerchief. They opened it to reveal two thick looking crackers and tossed one over to Zephyr. The pale elf wasn’t sure what they were expecting, but the cracker feeling more like a ceramic tile than a delicate crisp was not it. They tapped their long nails on it and it even sounded like a ceramic tile. They brought it up to their mouth to take a bi—
“Woah, woah, woah, woah, wait a second!” Nels stopped them and laughed a little, “I wouldn’t bite that if I were you. Not unless you fancy the idea of a broken tooth.”
Zephyr looked at the cracker, horrified, “I thought this was one of your rations?”
“It is.”
“But it can break your teeth?”
Nels gave a sly smile and looked down at the one they still had. They raised their fist and brought it down hard on the cracker, breaking it into pieces. They took the handkerchief and carefully used it to dumb the pieces into their soup.
“It’s called hardtack, and if you wanna eat it, you have to soak it first. Helps soups and stews stretch farther and basically stays good forever unless moisture gets to it.”
“Forever?” Zephyr asked in disbelief.
Nels shrugged again, “Well as far as any of us can tell. It doesn’t last long enough to find out most the time. Honestly it’s one of the best rations we get, especially if you have the ones with herbs in it. Gotta break it with a hammer though.”
“Or your fist.”
“Or my fist.”
Zephyr passed the hardtack they still had back to Nels who then repeated the process they had used on the first and added it to their soup.
“What’s your favorite ration?”
“I gave up on favorites a while ago. All that matters at the end of the day is that I don’t collapse.”
“What’s your least favorite ration?”
Nels scrunched up their face, “Veggie and cheese omelet.”
“You don’t like omelets?”
“I like omelets just fine. It’s a crime to call that ration an omelet.”
“Why?”
“It tastes like a dracolisk ate it and then vomited it back out.”
This time it was Zephyr’s turn to scrunch up their face, “That sounds unpleasant.”
“Yeah, well, unsurprisingly, it’s earned itself the nickname “vomelet” and soldiers will get in physical altercations to not have to eat the damn thing.”
“Wouldn’t it benefit soldier morale to give you better tasting food?”
“If the magisterium cared about that. Mages in general, but especially Magister’s kids, don’t tend to enlist. Unless they’re tryin’ to piss off their folks.” Nels shook their head, “They don’t care about the soporati. As far as they’re concerned we’re just bodies to throw at the Antaam problem.”
“Hmm.” Zephyr took another bite from their food and was surprised to notice Nels’ bowl of rice was already half gone. Nels made short work of their remaining rice and soup and just chattered away at Zephyr as they continued eating, telling them stories about the different foods they had eaten on the battlefield or the first time they had sixty seconds to eat a full plate.
Once Zephyr was finished they both carried their dishes over to the sink to wash them. As Nels began filling the sink with their own mountain of dishes, Zephyr stopped them.
“What’s wrong?”
“It’s my job to do the dishes.”
“I dirtied most of them.”
“But—”
“Tell you what, you let me help with the dishes, and in return you can help me do the prepwork for tomorrow’s briefing. Deal?” Nels put out their hand for the other elf to shake.
Zephyr looked at the soldier’s hand for a moment and then up at their eyes, “Deal.” They took their hand and Nels beamed at them with a bright smile that almost seemed out of place on the usually flippant rogue. It was… warm.

Thinking about Lilo & Stitch makes me really appreciate certain things about the original + the series. Almost every single named [human] character in the movie isn’t white: the only exception being Mertle, y’know, the bratty little girl we’re not supposed to like.
Besides all of the racial representation, Lilo herself is very much a neurodivergent icon, and her portrayal as the protagonist is amazing considering how characters like her are typically either sidelined or depicted in ways to make them less sympathetic/human (modern media does at least a slightly better job at adressing that kind of thing tho).
So all of that is great, but to anyone that hasn’t seen Lilo & Stitch: The Series, it also does some extremely refreshing stuff.
Pleakley gets tons of validation to dress in drag, everyone always referring to Pleakley as “she” when dressed up as “aunt Pleakley.” There’s even an episode that tackles Pleakley dealing with the pressures of his family that wants him to marry a girl and settle down to have a “normal life.” After the episode's shenanigans, there's a realistic depiction of the misunderstanding of a heteronormative/traditional parent with their non-traditional child: Pleakley's mom says that she just wants her children to be happy, but when Pleakley says that he is happy, she thinks he's only trying to console her as she insists, "How can you be happy? You aren't even married." But Pleakley finally gets it through to his mom when he says, "I don't want to be married, mother! I'm happy just as I am."
After getting to meet all of Pleakley's ohana throughout the episode and hearing from Pleakley himself -after all of the previous misunderstandings- that he really, truly, is happy, she's finally starting to understand.
Even though his mom comments as they leave that she wants him to “try wearing men’s clothes more often,” she still does walk away accepting that she simply doesn’t understand her son's way of thinking. It’ll definitely be hard for her since she’s so much more “traditional,” but she’s finally coming to grips with the fact that her son is who he is, and likes being that way, so she’ll love him regardless. She's trying her best.
The portrayal of people with physical disabilities is also great. It’s not because there’s one recurring character with some condition, but almost because there are non-recurring characters. It isn’t in every episode, but here’s an example: they want to show someone at the park playing fetch with their dog for just one shot. They could very easily have it be any a random person, but they decided to make it a lady in a wheelchair. There's another episode where Nani's friends from highschool show up and one has forearm crutches, but not just because she had some recent accident. No one in the episode questions her condition or feels the need to point it out, the only comment on it being that the friend will use the crutches to lightly bonk the others' arms, and Nani jokes, "You are still deadly with that thing."
The fact that they include characters with disabilities when they "don't have to" makes it that much more normal. These people aren't some special case or the main highlight of the episode, they're just another person. They're normal.
There's so much that all of the original Lilo & Stitch media did right, but now the name will forever be tainted with the association of the remake, which I'm sure will have absolutely none of the tasteful writing and ideas of anything prior to it.

Wait
Does Lancelot exist in the Dragon Age Universe? Because if not, Ser Pounce-A-Lot isn’t a pun name to Anders.
He just looked at that cat and thought
“Man he sure do pounce a lot”
And decided not only was that a sensible cat name, but that cat is clearly a Sir.
