Inspiration for project 4
I was watching Avatar the last air bender. I thought I could do a video on the four nations; air, water, fire, and earth. I started recording stuff for the water element. Then I started to record my candles for the element fire. I had a hard time thinking of something to record for earth and air. So then I decided I liked the candles and made my video just on the element fire. I planned to put some music from the cartoon into my video. I typed in avatar on this sound website, and ended up getting weird sounds. It gave me like alien sound. In the end, it all worked out and I like my video.

OPTION A: SHARING
What are the pros and cons of sharing your works-in-progress and ideas online? What does this do for culture?
Some pros of sharing your art/ideas online are: others can give feedback. You could bounce ideas back and forth. You can always come back to whatever you posted online. As the Tumblr agreement said,  “When you make something publicly available on the Internet, it becomes practically impossible to take down all copies of it.” It can be a place to save things. It can be a positive experience. This could help with slow ideas, or as in the video called it, “hunch ideas.” When you post art (finished or not), people can comment and give you positive feedback. This could make one feel better and encouraged to finish the art or make more. It makes me feel so much better when people give me positive feedback. Naturally, I see all the flaws in my art, so when someone says it’s good, I feel like the flaws I see aren’t seen by others. Negative feedback could be good too. It can help one improve. I appreciate the one’s that give me back negative feedback. I normally share my art with my brother. He tells me what I need to fix. I love it, as it benefits my art. Any feedback is helpful. It’s another person looking at your art and seeing things maybe you didn’t see.
Some cons are that your art is public now. It possible to have other see it and you can see others art. I think it could lead to comparing one’s art to another. This could have a negative effect. One could feel less about their art and give up on it. Negative feed back could discourage someone. When having it online, it is available to so many people. There is a risk of someone stealing you idea. In the Tumblr agreement it says, “You also agree that you will respect the intellectual property rights of others.” This won't stop someone from stealing an idea and acting like it’s their own.
I don’t think there are many original ideas out there anymore. I think that’s why so many movies are being remade. After a certain times, ideas are free to the public, for example, the story of Cinderella. People are free to use the story line. It’s more about making money off a movie, book, tv show, etc. It’s not about having a new idea anymore.

Oakland University Art Gallery
The gallery is so quiet. It made everything else feel so much louder. For example, another girl in the gallery coughed and it just seemed so loud. The quietness was nice when I was alone, but made me feel awkward when another person was there. Anyway, the gallery had a few pieces of art that caught my attention. There was one art piece that was a photo of a house under a bridge. It felt familiar to me. I have lived across the street from train tracks all my life. Most of my friends don’t understand how I can sleep through the night when the trains goes by loudly. I’m used to the sound of the trains, I barely notice it. I feel like the people that live in that house are probably used to the sounds of the cars that drive on the bridge. The subject of the picture is simple, It’s a house under a bridge. I feel like the meaning is much bigger. I would love to know the artist’s purpose for the picture. There was another art piece of a window view of a city. There is either a sunrise or sunset happening in the photo. The colors in the picture were soft. There weren’t any bright colors popping out. This art piece made me smile as it reminded me of the time I went to New York City back in 2015. I went to NYC because my puppy was chosen for the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet. The art gallery was quite which made it nice to just take a second to remember my trip to NYC.
Below is a picture of my pup, Brooklyn. (I named her Brooklyn before I knew I would be having the opportunity to take her to NYC)

Somehow I got this weird grid in the center of my project and I have no idea how to get it off. Here’s a screenshot of my project just as proof that it is done. I wanted to wait to save it until I asked you how to remove it. Sorry :(

I got stuck on what direction I should go in. On the left side of the poster, I’m breaking it in the three categories, bees, plants, and crops. Then I’m going to just bullet point info about each one. I think I’ll list facts and stats. The average person attention span is small, I just want put the basic idea that the bees are endangered. That only requires editing text and I can figure how which looks better on my own. The left side is what I need advice on. Im sure how to make the hexagon look and how to label the crops/flowers. There are crops in the center of the hive I'm unsure how to label. I still need to add more plants and crops, but that’s easy and ill save it for later. I think if I have time, maybe at the bottom I’ll add a website or a link to somewhere that could allow/teach someone how to help save the bees.

OPTION H: HOW TO / WHY LEAVE FACEBOOK
The video talks about four issues with Facebook. The first issue is the filter bubble. There is an algorithm connected to Facebook that will show the things you most likely will want to see. Nick’s doesn’t agree the algorithm is not always in the user’s favor. The filter bubbles assume your future preferences faces on your past activity. This sets up “information determinism,” which means eventually your feed is just filled with things you only agree with or like .  The issue with this is, it can take you attention away from serious issues that is happening around the world. There’s no room to change one’s view or opinion on things because only the same things are appearing on one’s Facebook feed. second issue is recycled likes. It is basically about liking a link, and Facebook automatically assuming you like what the link is to. Facebook assumes you will like anything in the future from the source will post. It gives a false image of what people actually like. The third issue is sponsored stories, which is Facebook selling your post to companies to use an ad. The issue is that it is happening without people realizing it, and is making no money off it. The last issue is experimenting on us. This is about Facebook skewing what appears on one’s feed for experiment purposes. Facebook can mess with people without them knowing.
Nick mention that the subject of the filter bubble is discussed on Tedd Talks. Google uses a similar method.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E7hkPZ-HTk
Nick mentions using duckduckgo as a search engine that doesn't track pervious searches.
Tumblr media
I am a Facebook user. I don’t post much on Facebook. I keep it more as a way to stay connected to people I don’t talk to daily. I try not to use Facebook much, maybe one day i’ll delete it for good. Nick’s video made me second guess liking anything. Maybe I’ll start clearing off my Facebook now, ill unfriend people i don't know and unlike groups. Then when I do delete Facebook for good, it will be easier.

research for project 3.
I’ll do my project about bees, and how they were endangered due to colony collapse disorder. I think Ill do the project in 3 parts: bee facts, flowers bee’s like, and the crops bees pollinate. In the bee facts, Ill post statics about how bees have decline. I may list what pesticides have caused this. I could list different types of bees. I think Ill post little doodles of the crops and plants. Ill put little hexagons around the background to look like a bee hive.
https://honeylove.org/list-of-food/
“In just the last ten years, over 40% of the bee colonies in the US have suffered Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD).  Bees either become so disoriented they can’t find their way back to their hives and die away from home, or fly back poison-drunk and die at the foot of their queen.)”

“Honey bees — wild and domestic — perform about 80 percent of all pollination worldwide. A single bee colony can pollinate 300 million flowers each day. Grains are primarily pollinated by the wind, but fruits, nuts and vegetables are pollinated by bees. Seventy out of the top 100 human food crops — which supply about 90 percent of the world’s nutrition — are pollinated by bees” http://www.greenpeace.org/usa/sustainable-agriculture/save-the-bees/

Three potential project ideas for Project 3
1. I’m curious to see which songs I listen the most too. I think Ill just take a week to record what songs and how many times I listen to them. I think how much I drive this week compared to how much I am home will effect this. When I drive, I’m limited to the music I listen to, as I only can play the cds I have. When I'm home, I can listen to my iTunes playlists which has all my music on. I’ll probably listen to With Confidence and As It Is the most, since I’m seeing both bands live next month.
2. I listen to so many bands.  To me, all my favorite bands see big. I’m curious to compare the bands and see which ones are bigger. I’ll look into how many followers the band gets on different social media account, how many views their youtube videos have, how many likes they get, etc. I think I’ll pick 5 bands. At least one from the UK and Australia.
3. For the past month, I have kept all my pay stubs from work. I got offered a different job and I'm not sure if I would be making more or less money at this new job. The new job pays hourly. I’m currently a server and the amount of money I make varies. So I started keeping track. I think it would be interested to see how much I really made over a span of time. I could find an average. I  doubt Ill use this idea, since its personal.
All of these idea are personal. If I have to do a project with presenting information, I think I would enjoy it more if it effected me personally.

OPTION C: POST – PHONELESS (FoMO)
I spilt pop on my phone the other day. So I decided to let my phone sit in rice all day. At least I got to accomplish some homework out of my bad luck.
The first issue I had without having my phone, was having an alarm in the morning. I had to ask my mom the night before to wake me up when she gets up for work. This stressed me out. I even left a note on the bathroom mirror to remind her. Another issue I had without my phone, was the time. I didn't have any easy way to check the time. I felt like it made my day go by longer. My sense of time was gone. I arrived early to everything. I wasn't able to wait till the last minute in my car before class/work. My manger appreciated me not having my phone. I was able to work more, as I wasn't checking my phone all the time. I felt disconnected from my friends and family. I felt like I was missing out. If something happened, I wouldn't know until I got home. Yet I felt more connected to the people around me. There was no iPhone to distract me. I got my homework done with a quickness. I didn't waste my time checking my social media every 10 minutes. The scariest thing about not having my phone was driving without it. Having my phone is like a safety net. My car isn't that most reliable but at least if something goes wrong, I have my phone to call my family. I specially didn't like driving at night without my phone. I also didn't have access to a gps, camera, a flashlight, and my music.
Overall I missed my phone. I rely too much on it as a safety net. It was strange not having instant contact with whoever.

Her name is Light. She is super tiny, about the size of a penny. She spends her day dancing among the flowers. Her job is to direct the bees and bugs. She keeps harmony among the plants. She moves with grace. She doesn't have a mouth cause she doesn't speak bee, ant, or any other type of bug language. She gets stressed out when it doesn't rain in a few days and her plant friends need water. She is scared of birds, as they always eat her worm friends. She gets annoyed with spiders, as she is always getting stuck in their webs. Once she got stuck for three days in a spider web. She hates the winter, all her flower friends leave. So one winter, she decided to hitch a ride with a bird and went down south. She discovered hibiscus flowers and fell in love! Now she lives in the garden that is owned by a little old lady name Sam. Sam spends a lot of time in the garden. Light loves when Sam comes to water the plant because Sam is often on the phone. Light enjoys listening to Sam’s conversation with her grandkids.

The peony and poppy flower: I took these photos sometime last spring in my own garden.
The daisy: I took this photo yesterday in my brothers room, there was better lighting than my room. It a picture of a painting I did last year.
The eyeball: I took this photo of my brothers art within the last week
Extra credit:
At the last minute I decided to change most of my project from the first draft. Overall I’m pleased with it. I looks like I didn’t add a nose or mouth but there’s a reason. I feel like if my monster had a nose, it would be overwhelming to live among flowers with all the different flower smells. Then there’s no mouth due to the fact that I personally wish I didn't talk so much. So having no mouth would fix that easily. The scanned photo was a last minute thought. It would look better if there was more color to it. If I made it green and look like vines or something like that. I played around with the leaves and transforming them, and I'm pleased at how it turned out. She looks mismatch to me. I think if I fixed the scanned pictures, that would help that issue. I wanted to make her glowing and added yellow behind her which I think it turned out good.

OPTION F: BLOGGING AS A FORM
A list of forms people had to communicate their ideas before the advent of blogging:
News papers, magazines, articles, books, research papers, personal diaries, notes, art, painting, , talking to another person in person, text messages, planner, websites,
Comparing it to a magazine:
The basics of a blog and magazine are the similar. Both of these two are ways to share idea. They can reach many readers. Both can be online. Both of these formats can use pictures along with words. They both use basic writing styles. Such as working with different fonts, headers, titles, font size, etc.
There are far more differences.
A blog can only be online. Blogs can be ran by one person or more. Blog can give access to other website. You can embed links. Blogs can include videos. Blogs can be kept private. Blog have more room to create. As personal blog can pretty much include whatever the owner wants to add. Blogs can be update at anytime. Blogs can post as many time as the owner wants. You can edit blogs easier and more often. It’s easier to access blog. Everyone has smart phone and can basically access a blog if they have internet or wifi. Blogs can have archives. You can look up post from a long time ago easily.  Here’s a link to 20 benefits of blogging.... https://www.incomediary.com/biggest-blogging-benefits
Magazines can have hard copies or be online. Magazines are normally ran by companies, which includes many writers. Magazines have drafts and deadlines. There is money involved in magazines, such as people pay for subscriptions. People are paid to write. Which allows magazines to be mailed to people monthly. These writing are written with the purpose of being shared and read by others. There’s no room for errors after the magazine is printed. It’s possible to read a magazine even without wifi or internet as there are printed copies. Magazines are often found in waiting rooms. I feel like magazine have a lot more pressure since there is money involved.
These differences can be seen as advantage or disadvantage depending on the goal of the writer.
Here’s a picture of my personal blog that I have had for over 6 years.
