This is why I have a cat who was from a feral colony that lived behind a McDonalds named “McKitten”.
‘Temporary’ Names
Vet clinics often have litters of kittens to raise. Either they’re too young for a shelter, too sickly, or the clinic intends to adopt them out when they’re big enough. Whatever the reason, nurses often end up raising kittens and giving them ‘temporary’ names.
The intention of these temporary names is that if you give the kitten a stupid name, you have something to call it other than ‘the middle black male’, but because it’s a stupid name you wont get emotionally attached and end up keeping it. Again.
Which is how some nurses end up with cats that have names like ‘Flea bus’ and ‘Trash bag’.

Study says you’re more likely to live if you have a female doctor
A new study from researchers at Harvard University found female doctors easily outshine their male counterparts in at least one critically important way: Fewer of their patients die.
After examining Medicare data tracking 1,583,028 hospitalizations, scientists determined patients of female physicians enjoyed “significantly lower mortality rates” and readmission rates, along with fewer ER visits.
According to the study, men and women’s vastly different approaches to practicing medicine likely account for the disparity. Read more

Don’t normalise Nazis
I was reading this article this morning, about Disney cutting ties with PewDiePie, a YouTube star (I’ve never heard of him?) who had included antisemitic content in his videos. This guy has continually claimed that all the antisemitic content he’s produced (which includes statements such as ‘death to all Jews’ and ‘Hitler did absolutely nothing wrong’) is a joke, and that people who are offended simply don’t understand the context, suggesting that it’s ‘laughable’ that he might agree with these viewpoints. So far so unsurprising: we’ve heard all this before.
But at the bottom of the article it points out the response to these videos by the Daily Stormer, a neo-Nazi website, which now describes itself as ‘the number 1 PewDiePie fansite’. The Daily Stormer stated: “He could be doing all this only to cause a stir things up and get free publicity […] Ultimately, it doesn’t matter, since the effect is the same; it normalizes Nazism, and marginalizes our enemies.”
The point is this: if you are making racist or antisemitic jokes, it doesn’t matter if you were only joking, or messing around, or that you would never subscribe to those views; the effect is the same. Regardless of whether you agree with what you are saying, you are emboldening, normalising and legitimising Nazis. You are permitting fascism to take root in our society. Jokes matter. This is where extreme views creep in, take hold and are normalised. Think about what you’re saying: words have power. Stop normalising Nazis.

Standing Up From My Wheelchair in Public
I often bring up the ableist action of harassing/accusing ambulatory wheelchair users (as well as scooter, walker, crutches, and cane users) of “faking” because it’s something that happens ALL the time under the guise of “allyship” that people seem to WANT to remain oblivious to.
A person standing up from a wheelchair or standing without their mobility aid SHOULD NOT be cause for alarm, should not inspire accusations of faking, should not inspire you to say, “it’s a miracle!” in a mocking tone, or to ask me if I should “really be parked here”, or recommendations of weight loss so I won’t “need that chair anymore”, or whispering about how my karma is coming or how I’m going to hell for “playing with a wheelchair”; all comments I’ve received from strangers for just standing in public, getting my chair out of the trunk of my car on my own, or doing something as minimal as riding my chair while being young and smiling.
It’s prejudice; it lacks understanding to how diverse disability is, it uses a singular representation of wheelchair users to judge all wheelchair users. When people are called out on that ableism, those who do it will become defensive and claim to be acting in defense of disabled people because they truly deeply believe in the myth of a “faking disability epidemic", but hear this: non-apparent disabilities/invisible disablities, etc. are REAL disabilities and you are harassing the very people you are claiming to be advocating for.
For me, it is physically very difficult, painful, and risky to walk in the first place, the moments when I am able to, it takes alot of energy and concentration. Emotionally, it takes courage for me to get up from my chair in public; doing so causes anxiety that is parallel to what I would feel as a woman walking alone in the street at night. It’s a situation where I have come to EXPECT harassment and that is not okay. This is not how it should be, getting out of my chair in public should not have to feel like a radical act.
A person who gets up from their wheelchair might have limited ability to walk because they are rehabilitating, have dysautonomia, lung issues, heart issues, chronic pain, hypermobility, fragility of joints or muscles, fatigue, there are so many reasons for being an ambulatory wheelchair user and they come in all ages, sizes, colors, there is no one way, no one look.

I know I’ve posted numerous times about how welfare fraud is in fact very, very rare and welfare programs have lower fraud loss rates than things like businesses. Which is true, but it’s also true that most actual technical welfare fraud doesn’t look much like the stereotype either. Pretty much the only people who “get rich” off fraud are service end things like stores, hospitals, etc. Nobody else really gets rich from lying on their food stamp paperwork.
Welfare fraud looks less like “cadillac and mansion” and more like:
a disabled person lies about their level of mobility because medicaid will often only cover wheelchairs if you need them in the house, not if you need them to go out or do anything outside of the house
a poor woman claims her boyfriend lives separately from her because the amount he contributes to her and their kids counts against her less if it’s listed as childsupport instead of part of the household income and that small difference can be enough to keep the children from going hungry
a poor person sells part of their food stamps and lives on things like instant ramen because almost nobody gets cash assistance anymore and they need things like toilet paper or tooth paste
a disabled person who could not hold down a regular job sells $100 a month in homemade crafts and doesn’t report it because they might have to spend months or even years re-fighting their social security case if they reported it
a homeless person makes more than $20 a month begging but lists their income as zero because that’s less confusing
other things like that
A lot of that is just survival. It’s not a system set up in a way that makes it easy to even live unless you “cheat”. People aren’t doing it to get rich, they do it to cling to the very basics and just manage to live. I don’t blame people who violate the laws to keep their heads above water, I blame the people who set up a horrific system like this and who benefit from harming and exploiting poor people.

Quote
One of the biggest problems with religion is that people stubbornly, insistently reduce God to their own size; they imagine that God loves the same people they love, and that God hates the people they hate. This is not just insidious theology; it’s actually idolatry, because people are just worshiping a blown up version of themselves. So let me say it simply: God’s love transcends all of that. When your parents reject you, God loves you; when your friends or classmates make fun of you, God loves you; when your priest, minister, imam, or rabbi tells you that you are an abomination, God loves you; when politicians cater to people’s basest prejudices, God loves you. No matter how many times and in how many ways people make you feel less than human, God knows otherwise, and God loves you. When you feel frightened, or abandoned, or humiliated, I hope the unshakeable conviction that God loves you can help hold you and enable you to persevere.

Secretary of Education:
Michelle Rhee (Owner of a multi-billion dollar Charter school lobbying group)
She is one of the leading supporters for Charter schools and public school privatization, in 2007 became Chancellor of the Washington, D.C. public school District, during that time she was accused of closing schools and firing teachers so she can steal the pension money for herself.
She fired 266 teachers who were members of the union and justified it saying, “I got rid of teachers who had hit children and who had had sex with children.” After public outrage into the comments over why she would fire teachers who were pedophiles instead of having them arrested she refused to provide any evidence the 266 union teachers had ever abused children and refused to apologize for her comments.
She has been accused of making the school district worse on purpose to help lobbyist groups justify their stance that public and free education is a failure.
She fought against School District Employees Unionizing.
She made up her resume.
Secretary of Agriculture:
Forrest Lucas (Billionaire owner of the company Lucas Oil)
He used company money to buy himself a mansion and avoid paying property taxes then justified it saying he’s using it as a, “corporate retreat for himself” since he is an employee of his company.
His wife wrote on Facebook saying, “I’m sick and tired of minorities running our country! As far as I’m concerned, I don’t think that atheistss, muslims nor any other minority group has the right to tell the majority of the people in the United States what they can and cannot do here. Is everyone so scared that they can’t fight back for what is right or wrong with his country?” He defended his wife’s statements by saying he has donates to Veterans groups and since they (presumably) help veterans who are minorities he’s not a racist.
He is famous for being the biggest proponent against animal rights on earth and created a lobbying group called Protect the Harvest who’s motto is “keeping America free and fun.“ to fight against animal rights groups. His group is accused of being a corporate front that openly vows to fight groups such as The Humane Society of the United States and The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Many of the groups board of executives are state politicians who have used Lucases money to try do things like legalize puppy mills, legalize hunting endangered animals and shorten the punishment for crimes like animal cruelty.
I have done extensive research to try and find out why anyone would support these things. And why someone would go as far as to spend millions of dollars so people don’t go jail for beating their pet dogs, and the closest answers I have gotten from interviews is that Forrest Lucas seems obsessed with the idea, “That a man has a god given right to do with, what he pleases to his property.”
Secretary of Energy:
Harold Hamm (Billionaire Oil Tycoon)
He ordered The Dean of The University of Oklahoma to fire researchers who published papers or did research into the environmental effects of Fracking and Drilling.
He is against wind turbines because unlike oil wells they don’t look Americans.
He uses slippery slope fallacy to argue if the U.S passed environmental regulations it will lead to genocide because the end result of environmental laws would be the U.S massacring people and performing forced abortions to stop overpopulation.
Secretary of Homeland Security:
Michael McCaul (Texas Congressman and the 2nd Richest U.S Politician before Trump with $300 million dollars)
He attempted to remove the right of deceased soldiers families to choose which prayers, if any, were to be read at a soldier’s funeral. Meaning that if an Atheist or Hindu or Muslim soldier dies by law the family would have to recite and read Christian Prayers during the funeral.
He wants Putin to lead the monitoring of the situation in Syria rather than an international commission or the U.N
He violated Ethics Laws when he was responsible for the Keystone Pipeline deal avoiding the entire time to bring up the fact that his family owns the company that would build and own the pipeline.

Steven Mnuchin (Worked for Goldman Sachs and produced American Sniper)

If you were a Latino who didn’t pay your morgue to Steven Mnuchin’s bank you are 20% more likely to be evicted than if you are white and in the same situation.
The bank he headed broke the law numerous times with unethical and illegal foreclosure practices. Trying to evict an elderly couple who had already paid them $525,000 in mortgages for a house that was only worth $200,000.
He has been sued dozens of times and settled or was found guilty in multi-million dollar lawsuits on several separate occasions.
He has been forced to testify and received subpoenas from the Department of Housing and Urban Development multiple times.
Secretary of Commerce:
Peter Thiel (Billionaire Trump donor)
He wrote a book called “The Diversity Myth: ‘Multiculturalism’ and the Politics of Intolerance” some highlights of the book is when he argued that the point of awareness about rape and sexual assault victimization is to vilify men and that Ivy League Universities have been forced to dumb down curriculum ever since they allowed blacks to attend their schools so minorities will be able to graduate. The book was so offensive that even Republicans called it out as bigoted and filled with lies.
He published an essay where he argued that women being allowed to vote hurts democracy.
He wasted millions trying to build an artificially made island that could be turned into a Libertarian paradise after he was inspired by reading Atlas Shrugged.
He believes that performing blood transfusions with the blood of young people will stop the aging process.
Director of the Office of Management and Budget:
Tom Coburn (Former Oklahoma Senator)

Back when he was a doctor he committed medicare fraud according to the State Attorney General. (Ironically he wants to end Medicare because he says it’s used primarily for fraud.)
He demanded the Holocaust film Schindler’s List be banned from airing on television.
He used legal loopholes to attempt to prevent several bills from coming to the Senate floor. Some of the bills includes one that would assure Veterans get health benefits. The law that criminalized online child pornography and one law that would cut funding to the Ugandan terrorist group, The Lord’s Resistance Army. Who are famous for massacring entire villages but letting the young children live so they can be used as child sex slaves. The LRA currently is killing more people each year than ISIS is.
He has close connections to a Christian Advocacy group known as, “The Family” which has been described as a cult, and who’s influence is responsible for the passage of laws in Uganda which in 2008 made Homosexuality a death penalty crime.
He tried to bribe the Mistress of another Congressman when he found out she was going to the press about their affair and other ethics violations.
Director of the Environmental Protection Agency:
Myron Ebell (Lobbyist for Climate Change Deniers)
He pretends to be a scientist despite any actual education or training as one.
He receives millions of dollars from the oil industry.
He thinks Pesticides are harmless.
He fought to take away all protection for endangered species in the name of “property rights.”
He believes smoking isn’t anymore dangerous then breathing in car exhaust fumes when you walk around a major city. (He wrote these articles while getting funding from Cigarette company Philip Morris.)
He bragged about being labeled as one of the most dangerous people in the world by environmental and animal welfare groups such as Greenpeace and Rolling Stone in his autobiography.
He claimed it was “unconstitutional.” for Obama to make a speech talking about how the world should focus on environmental issues.
CIA Director:
Mike Pompeo (Congressman who was elected thanks to The Tea Party)
He falsely claimed after the Boston Bombing that not a single Muslim has spoken out against terrorism and that Muslim leaders were “complicit” in the attack.
In 2010 he tweeted asking his followers to read a blog post a supporter of his wrote which ranted against Raj Goyle (The Democrat opponent who was running against him for his Congress seat) with racial epithets and calling President Barack Obama an “evil muslim communist USURPER.”
He wants more government surveillance to “stop terrorism.”
He is obsessed with having Hillary arrested.
He thinks Edward Snowden should get the death penalty.
Domestic Policy Advisor
Ken Blackwell (Former Ohio Secretary of State)
He says, “Gays can be reformed, just like arsonists.”
He works for an anti-gay hate group who wants gays deported.
He advised Trump to change the laws so youth Homeless shelters could legally refuse to help gay and transgender youth.
He believes mass shooting are caused by America’s lack of morality which stems from the country allowing gays to exist.
He wrote an article saying Mosques don’t have a right to exist in New York City.
He was accused of rigging the 2004 election in Ohio for George Bush. After he was called to testify in legal hearings by Congress he just refused to show up.
During his term he had 18 major lawsuits.
He accidentally published a list of 1.2 million Social Security numbers of Ohio citizens.
He fought tooth and nail to move to electronic touch screen voting machines instead of paper ballots, after it was discovered the machines had a backdoor software “glitch” it was revealed that Blackwell owned the company that made the voting machines.
A group of 31 pastors contacted the IRA alleging that a number of Churches in the state had been secretly funding Blackwell which violates laws prohibiting charity groups involvement in political campaigns.
Blackwell sent an email claiming he had never heard of any of the churches that he was accused of getting illegal donations from. But after media outlets traced the I.P address of the email it was revealed he sent the email inside of the church that he was claiming he had never heard of in the email he was sending from their building…

Our culture has celebrities in place of myths, and we have grief twitter instead of byzantine lore about the journey to the underworld and the proper ways of burial. When celebrities die and we mourn them in a massively public way, this is a safe way to practice mourning for our parents and our partners and our friends, to try to force ourselves to make the unthinkable familiar.
The generational quality of this grief comes from the fact that, as the celebrities with whom we grew up die, it signals that we are at the age where people are dying, and we look ahead to the inevitable disasters, the wave that grows larger on the horizon. If our public grief is a performance, it’s a performance in the way that a disaster drill is a performance.
Our grief at losing an icon who meant a great deal to us is a real grief but a bearable one. But that bearable grief is a test-drive for future unbearable ones. We practice together in the hope that we can be prepared, so that the idea of loss does not seem so alien.
Complaints about the inappropriate nature of grief on social media – that it’s a circle-jerk, a joiner’s club, an obligated performance – are as defining a part of these mournings as the remembrances themselves. But to call this grief a performance is to miss the point – it’s not a performance, it’s a rehearsal. It seems right to me that grief be public, and messy, and inconvenient, that it make everyone in its path uncomfortable.
Small amounts of discomfort, after all, increase our tolerance for large amounts of pain. Mourning celebrities who mattered to us is a way to remind ourselves that no one is spared, not even those who seemed immortal, larger than a human being with petty little organs doing their pedestrian little jobs inside their skin. Speaking things aloud removes their terror, dulls the power of their unfamiliarity. We speak this over and over to try to come to terms with something that cannot possibly be made familiar.

Looks like able-bodied people are trying to get themselves murdered
I’ve written about this before but people are talking about the issue again and if I hear one more person defendant Anderson Cooper I’m going to lose my God damn mind
Drive-by lawsuits.
Disabled people are constantly accused of using their lack of privilege to reap benefits, despite the fact that I’m pretty sure that negates the term privilege altogether; if we have to use our disability to manipulate you into making public spaces accessible how privileged are we?
In recent years “drive-by lawsuits” have been the main thread of contention among able-bodied people. The term describes when a disabled person sues a business, generally things like restaurants or a bank, without even patronizing them in the first place…because they are inaccessible and in violation of ADA laws.
I’m pretty sure even the most ignorant able-bodied person can unpack this. A disabled person physically can’t enter a facility that is open to the public, which puts it in violation with the American’s With Disabilities Act aka they commit a crime, we sue to preserve our civil liberties and yet we are the villains?
If you are still on the fence about whether disabled people are the villains in these stories here are a few things that never get reported in drive-by lawsuit reports: the ADA laws only apply to public facilities that have been built or significantly reconstructed in the last few years under “grandfathering” restrictions but even so most of these lawsuits are not about the architecture, they are because the owners set up the interior in a way that makes the establishment inaccessible. A disabled person cannot simply sue a business in violation of ADA laws, they have to go through a procedure of asking the owners nicely to stop breaking the law but many don’t because redecorating or putting a handicap parking sign in one of the parking spots would be “too expensive” and is therefore a burden… And yet, serving expired food would also be a money saver but doing so will immediately get you shut down because it’s against the law. Many people have a problem that most of these drive-by lawsuits are placed by the same law firms or lawyers that always represent the disabled people in their community/state. People see this as a moneymaking scheme between lawyers and disabled people; they accuse both parties of going out and looking for ADA violations just so they can sue them.
Some very well might be, and what’s the problem with that? ADA laws are not enforced unless lawsuits are filed so there is no way to keep segregation within the legal limits without people going into community and finding places they are illegally barred from. Yes, a lot of the lawsuits are brought by the same lawyers but another alternative to the theory that this is a moneymaker is that disabled people are, on average, far below the poverty line; it is legal for us to make at least $0.20 an hour and it is illegal for us to have a savings so most of us don’t have the money to press charges against not only people in violation of ADA laws but even our rapists and abusers. Given how not lucrative this would be and how socially unacceptable it is to ally with disabled people is it any wonder that it is only a select few lawyers that take these cases?
But even so, people say, the lawsuits are filed for such large sums of money so the businesses are exploited and the payout goes to these “poor” disabled people and the 5 lawyers in the entire country that will take their case. Yes. That’s how a lawsuit works. You ask for a large settlement knowing that you will only get a fraction of it so you aim high not just for financial benefit but because it’s incentive for these businesses and others watching to stop breaking the law. The reason you have to take out a mortgage on your house to pay for a littering ticket is that’s the only way to get people to stop doing it and it’s important that you stop for the sake of humanity. I don’t think I’m being dramatic when I say that breaking ADA laws are detrimental to humanity and society because they are put in place to end pre-existing laws and block proposed laws like the “ugly” laws which prohibited disabled people to even be seen in public up into the 1970s and if they did go in public they could be forced to wear a sign around their neck reading “ugly.”
You don’t think never having to see disabled people isn’t a detriment? Okay, but these laws are always partnered by laws requiring disabled people to be sterilized, to be “put down,” or simply for our murders not to be seen as legal. You still might not care but unless you are straight white man the extermination of disabled people is going to come back and bite you in the ass. Historically, genocide on any scale gains momentum to the point of things like the Holocaust by targeting disabled people.
Ironically, disabled people who file drive-by lawsuits are called “handicap Nazis” but as I’ve mentioned the Holocaust is one of the best examples of why these lawsuits are important. Nazi Germany did not immediately call for the extermination of Jewish and Romani people, it would have never gone over despite how racist the population. First, Nazis called for the institutionalization, sterilization, and then murder of disabled people to benefit public health, racial purity, and economic benefit. These initial victims were referred to as “T4 patients” after the drug used to euthanize them, Aktion T4. The gas chambers were initially built for their genocide and the doctors/officials who would medically torture people in concentration camps got their training years before on the T4 population. Even at the height of their power, when the Nazis would invade new populations the soldiers were required to target any facility that held disabled people before they even started picking people out because of their race or sexuality.
The smartest thing you could do as an able-bodied person is to protect disabled people if only to shield yourselves and if you don’t the second smartest thing would be to run like hell when they start murdering us.
You may not want to believe that things like this still go on or that it could happen in countries like America (despite the Nazi eugenics program being significantly lifted from American eugenics programs) but they still do.
The last reported case of forced sterilization through legal government policy was in California, 2014, and the victim wasn’t sterilized because she was disabled but because she was black. Laws used to target us are purposely made to expand to other/intersectional marginalized groups in the attempt to cull any genetic waste.
Disabled people are the canary in the coal mine when it comes to eugenics.
