How to go big with your business! What I learnt from Julia Pimsleur.

SUMMARY: -------------------- How to go big with your business! Lessons from Julia Pimsleur the founder, CEO and the inventor of Little Pim. Last week I participated in an event organized by National Association of Women Business Owners in New York City. The main guest and a speaker was famous Julia Pimsleur.

Little Pim is one of the few women-run businesses backed by venture capital in the country, and after raising millions for her own company, Pimsleur created the “Double Digit Academy” and online course “Further. Faster. Funded.” to help other women do the same.

I would like to share with you 4 lessons that I learnt from Julia during her presentation.

Lesson 1 Know what you know and learn or outsource what you don't like or you don't know in your business.

Take a piece of paper and write down all the things that gives you goose bumps. All the things that make you shake when you think you have to do them. As well find time and consult with other business owners or more successful people than you. Ask them to help you do an overview of you business operations and see where you might need help and improvement. Spending time on unproductive activities is like throwing out money to the trash and not modernizing and upgrading your business operations is not moving forward and not staying competitive.

Lesson 2 You are worth what the closest 5 people that you spend the most time with.

Probably you hard it not once. Hanging out with folks who put you down and  are not adding to your life and to help you grow as an individual and as a business is not constructive. You need to let those people go. Start surrounding yourself with optimists, action takers and go getters. Be around people from whom you can learn and who lift you up!  In today's digital age there is no excuses. Even people from a small country side in Kentucky can attend or start a mastermind group of like mined people online.  (If you don't know how to do it, ask me in the comments and I will be happy to help).

Lesson 3 Learn how to dance the dance.

Julia said that when she was raising money one of the investors told her to increase the operating expenses from 10% to 16% otherwise he will not be able to approve the proposal. She was shocked, but she did it and she received the funds. Sometimes we have to go with the flow and dance to the music. Give people what they want and not actually what we have to sell. Eg, If you are selling oranges, but someone wants to buy an apple, if you tell them that this orange is really an apple but it only looks like an orange - they will buy it even with more excitement. It is not that someone wants to buy the apple, the point is that they want to buy it from you.

Lesson 4 Do it and if it doesn't work - ask for forgiveness.

We are so often hold by our limits and our fears from doing things. Or we are being influenced by people's opinions from moving forward; changing a job, starting a business, getting divorce, moving to a different city or whatever it is that's make us unhappy. Usually, people say "don't do it, it will not happen" ! Did you experience that? How come we are programmed like that?! I want you do reprogram your mind and as Julia said: just do it and if it doesn't work or if your action hurts someone on the way - just apologize. But do not seat with closed hands and stair into the nothingness!
