This is incredibly written, and the absolute range of emotions you’ve managed to squeezed into a single scene is beyond impressive. There’s a lot of humor in this piece (I think I laughed out loud when Asteria revealed the truth behind her tent-hole, lmao), but it’s also a very contemplative and serious in places. The character work on Asteria is incredibly done--I have such a strong handle of who she is as a person just based off this fic alone.

But perhaps the most impressively written and heartbreaking thing of all is the promise she managed to unwittingly extract from the prince: that he will not only heed Ante’s counsel, when the time comes, and not let himself be ruled by her suspicions. We all know how things turned out, but the moment is also beautiful in a fleeting kind of way, and undoubtedly something that Leon’s mind will have wandered back to time and time again.

Congratulations to @mage-parivir​ for the release of Book 1 of A Mage Reborn! Here’s a quick fic I threw together to celebrate.

In which Asteria and Leon have a little sleepover. Canon-compliant, pre-relationship; set a few days before the last battle of the war.

It’s only with a minor amount of trepidation that Asteria finds herself ducking into Leon’s tent in the dead of night. The magic protecting the camp staves off everything but the midwinter chill. The wards part easily to let her pass, a privilege reserved exclusively for the former White Fangs—there have been one too many traitors in their ranks, something they learned the hard way after Salantira’s fifth assassination attempt.

She throws down her blanket and crawls forward in the dark. Leon’s asleep, as well he ought to be, but the tent is blessedly warm, enveloping her like the quilt she’d left behind in Leaf End. A few minutes’ reprieve, and then she can drag herself back out to deal with the mess she’s made.

Of course, that’s when her head bangs sharply against a tent pole. Pain shoots through her scalp—she bites back a curse, eyes watering from the impact.

Leon stirs in the dark. “Who’s there?”

Damn it. She conjures a quick magelight, sending a soft golden glow through the tent. Leon blinks at the sudden change, one hand grasping weakly for his sword. 

“You know,” she says conversationally, “if I really were a Salantir agent, we’d all be done for. I’d just have to wait for your afternoon nap and bam—” She snaps her fingers. ”—the Sun Prince, out like a light.”

Beautiful beautiful collage of works! Every single one of them is very emotionally evocative, and I feel very very guilty from what I’ve put the mage through over the course of AMR ;; I love all these pieces dearly, but the third one takes my breath away every time I see it. The juxtaposition of Sister’s first and last scenes will always send chills down my spine.

There’s no one better-suited to brokering peace between all of the continent’s splintered nations...or to destroying them all in one fell swoop.

This is pretty much exactly how I imagined that two-piece clothing option to look like! Inerys herself is beautiful - seeing her sad makes me sad, but I have hope that things will look up for her eventually!

I apologize - Sunblind is the only fangame that AMR has currently received. 😅

But thank you for your kind words! Much as I'd like to preen and say that it is generosity on my part, I have rather selfish motivations for handling AMR's demos the way I have. That is, AMR's readership is almost universally nasty little angst gremlins like me, and have become an absolute goldmine of ideas for how character interactions ought to be handled in future releases. Hi Adam, I’m not sure if it’s just me but wondering why I can’t rate the game in the hosted games app? It also shows 0 ratings so far which doesn’t makes sense..

I think CoG ran into an error when publishing AMR on the Hosted Games app, which disabled star ratings for people who finished the game. This is incredibly unfortunate, as the most amount of purchases (and therefore, likely ratings as well) come in over the first week of release, during which the rating system for AMR had largely been out of commission. As the Hosted Games app only shows ratings and the number of ratings as metrics for a game's success (there are no data displayed on purchases made or average playtime, for example), AMR is in the unfortunate situation of seeming less popular/liked than it actually is.

What's done is done, though, and there's nothing I can really do about the situation. However, if you find yourself replaying AMR through the Hosted Games app in the future, I would really appreciate it if you could drop a rating for the game - it really does help!

Lmao, I hope Airas reciprocates your MC's affection! You will see them again very soon, but unfortunately not in the context you expect. Far into the future though (and by that I mean well into Book 3), the Book 1 phantasmas may just make rather important resurgences!

I assume we'll see the aftermath of the war on Salantira's side right? Cause that's a mess I'd like to explore.

You get the barest of glimpses into this in the Archangel fork of Chapter 9 (Jiasei)'s opening scene, but a larger look-through isn't currently planned until well into Book 3! Book 2 is essentially a glorified tour of Arvanand, and we've already touched on Thulrum, Yotai (Kyuhan/Jiasei), as well as Salantira (Reglaire/Aulain), which means there's only one stone currently left unturned...

I always loveee reading Leri fics because Icy always does such a good job filling in the blanks in the canon. Probably one of AMR’s most controversial game design decisions was to relegate the war arc into a thousand-word passage; and while I stand by that call, I understand the frustration some feel at not being able to see the characters develop throughout those rough couple of years of their life. I share that feeling quite often as well, and Leri fics never not manage to scratch that torturous itch!

This fic in particular does a wonderful job in showing the mutual respect between Leon and Leri, and the motions of the war that they have to go through. I imagine such experiences can only help their bond with one another grow stronger, and it really makes you ponder how that would have informed...future events.

The flaps of his tent flutter open when Leon barges in with an apology on his lips.

“Forgive me Leri, but this cannot wait. I-” 

The words seem to leave him and Leri’s watching him freeze in place. 

Leon’s eyes rake at Leri’s back, quickly, with a hint of hunger of the one who sees something they know they shouldn’t but really wanted to.

Leri doesn’t move, elbows caught in a shirt he was in the middle of pulling on.

Leon has a very good view of markings covering his skin. 

This is why he usually bathes alone. To avoid questions he just knows are at the ready to spill from Leon’s mouth. During his adventures with the White Fangs he was able to keep them covered most of the time. Oh, his companions chanced glimpses of them on his arms and legs but not like this, not in full. It’s the first for Leon.

And he stays silent.

Suspiciously silent. 

Leri swallows, throat suddenly tight. He can’t properly read the look in Leon’s eyes, that inappropriate hunger changing into something he’s not sure he likes seeing. It looks close to pity and he hates to see that.

Oh, this was such an absolute treat to read. I appreciate the sonic shift from AMR’s usual gloom-and-doom fare, and doubly appreciate the (very welcome) addition of a second MC! Their interactions with one another was super cute, and it’s good to see Tahlia properly receive input from other people for once.

I’ll be coming back to this one often - such a gem!

(Also, the idea of a blonde Yurui has me tickled pink. If hair dyeing were more practical/universally practiced in AMR-verse, I do believe Yu would be the type to go through them faster than F goes through swear words!)

This is really stunning! I love the color choices you made and how warm it makes the entire piece feel, despite the whole thing happening at night. Everything from the golden wheat field to the star earring to the way Leon is looking at her eyes--these choices are INSPIRED. I love seeing mages happy...I want to give them the world...TT

HELLOOOO HER OUTFITS ARE FIRE

In particular, I love that royal retainer drip, it really looks like she reeks of money! I bet that was useful for her as a ‘commonborn’ attendant in the noble’s den. Her Widow outfit is really cool as well--the veil is my personal favorite mask choice as well, as it adds such an allure and mystery to the character in question, and Nimat pulls it off splendidly here.

There’s something romantic about a spiritist that keeps falling for healers, ahah. No other pairing would put the ‘opposites attract’ theory to the test quite like them!

After completing Book 1 of @mage-parivir A Mage Reborn I've decided to repost my concept art of my Spiritism Mage, Nimat Talovaire, with her stats from book 1.

Book 2 should be interesting especially considering Nimat still has lingering affections towards White Fang, particularly the new Saintess Ilya, as well as being reunited with her childhood friend, and first love Elias. Considering Nimat is attracted to both healers I'm head canoning she probably has a bit of Nightingale syndrome/ transference going on 🤔
