Has anyone ever written a MagicReveal!fic where Arthur works out Merlin' magic not because he catches him, but because of the circumstantial evidence early in the show.

And then he thinks about it, but reasons Merlin can't be a sorcerer because magic just happens around him, rather than Merlin doing anything like casting spells, so instead he ends up comparing Merlin to the Unicorn and other magical creatures he faces throughout the show: They are magical beings and magic is inherent to their being, but they aren't evil for existing with that magic, and wouldn't bother to use that magic against humans if humans didn't threaten them.

So Arthur figures Merlin just must have magical talents like some people have talents for art or swordplay- you could improve through working at it, but if you don't well, it just becomes a part of who you are. No harm no foul.

And Merlin isn't hurting anyone by just, living in the world. If anything, Camelot is benefiting from having him around in small ways- food doesn't seem to spoil as quickly, illnesses aren't hitting as hard, and there haven't been any bedbug or lice infestations since he started working for Arthur. And that's not counting his uncanny sense for magic and danger.

SO Arthur works through his assumptions about Magic quietly, sort of like how people who grow up in cults start to interrogate those beliefs when they get older, so when Merlin has to do something very obvious it's Merlin that has the freak out- Not Arthur.

I'd kind of like to see an Arthur that's just as accepting and kind as Merlin, that can tell Merlin he's a worthy man, the same way Merlin supports Arthur when he's doubting his ability to be King.
