This video is to illustrate the process I use for drawing my coloring book pages from start to finish.  When working digitally, I use my new Wacom Cintiq 22" HD Touch and Photoshop CS6.  The process takes me anywhere from a couple hours to a whole day to complete a single drawing.

First I will begin sketching just to get an idea that is in my mind down before it disappears.  Then (sometimes days later) I will come back to that idea and work on refining it further.  Once it is refined I save it in the format to be added to my coloring book and move to the next one.

I try to do at least one drawing at or very near completion per day.

This video first shows me sketching out the drawing of a draft horse in driving tack.  You watch me as I tweak and move items around the drawing developing the proportion, the pose, and the details.

Then I switch color to make it more visible on video (I don't always use different colors when working though) and begin refining the finer details - in this case, chain, feathers, bridle, cavesson, etc.  

When I have "perfected" those, I trace all the details into a final black "ink" layer.  Due to the length of the video, this part was left out.

Following showing you the final image of the draft horse in driving tack, I move to give you stills of the "critical stages" of my drawing process, again, using colors to illustrate better what was done.

Monty Roberts (unfortunately no relation that I know of - darn the luck!) is one person I admire, not only for his work with horses and a natural type horsemanship (yee haw!), but for who he is as an individual person - the work he has done with foster and adoptive children, programs he has spoken at, etc.  The real visceral responses he gets from people merely watching from the stands is only one testament to the power of his life's work and focus.  His efforts go beyond the horse/human relationship to interpersonal relationships, family dynamics, and so much more.
