Update~please read

My my, a lot has been going on, eh~?

I haven’t been in a role playing mood for quite some time, it appears as though that isn’t changing anytime soon...I don’t find the enjoyment in it anymore, and quite frankly, I don’t feel any form of passion for these characters now. My stupid emotional self is burnt out and drained in ways I couldn’t explain even through drawings, so, if you’re wondering, yes, I’m leaving the role play community, and I’m not sure if I’ll be returning.

Am I leaving Tumblr? Not yet, I haven’t decided, but if I do, this blog will most likely be deactivated.

I have...a lot going on in my personal life, to put words to that, I’ve become the mother, the father, and the nurse of the house hold, it’s draining me and I feel smothered by all of it.

That being said, don’t expect much activity from me. I appreciate all who’s stuck with me, but the fire’s burning lower and lower, I don’t know how to rekindle it anymore.

The Official “Log Off” Protest F.A.Q! 

The “Log Off” protest is in response to the recent NSFW ban announced by Tumblr. The ban flags all content the filtering system detects as NSFW, reducing visibility to the community. The system has proven time and time again that is inefficient, oftentimes flagging SFW material as NSFW. 

This SFW material includes art, memes and so on. This ban directly hurts the community and will not solve the actual problems at hand due to the poor flagging system. Because of this, the entire community will suffer.  

So to respond, I propose that every user on Tumblr logs off of Tumblr for 24 hours on December 17th at 12 am EST.

“K, I can’t imagine there’d be an easier way to find them though...” She peered into the room. “This place is huge, then again, everything looks huge when you’re three feet tall!”

She took note of the large boxing area. “It’s very different from Wyvernash’s training grounds, I live in Wyvernash by the way, I guess it’d make sense though, folks there are primarily trained to hunt since Darklands soil isn’t ideal for planting crops.” She quickly took her sweater off, she had a black tank top on underneath.

After tying the sweater around her waist, Kamellia stretched, waiting for Julian. If one were to notice, she has a scar on her left shoulder, and her wings, tightly folded against her back, were now blue instead of their normal lavender.

A lot of things were going on inside the brunette's head as she stood in the doorway of what appeared to be a lab, her hands in her pocket and her eyes focusing on nothing as she sported a noticeably tomboyish attire and wore a look of deep thought on her freckled face. "Papa, Mamma told me you knew how to fight? Like throwing punches and stuff?"

“….Yes, I do…. what about it?” He sounded worried.

“Considering they were used to slay a multi-world-destroying god-to-be, they could be more useful than the crystal stars...although, I’m not sure if you can really find them, if they aren’t in their respective pillars, then they’ve returned to the places they were initially hidden in, that means you’d have to travel to the other side of the galaxy to find one of them, I think...” 

She spun her index finger in a counter clock-wise circle, summoning a book, which she promptly opened and turned to a page.

 “Yeah, the problem with that is that you have to find a couple of other Pure Hearts in order to get to it, the other hearts will open a door that’ll put you in the quadrant where the fifth Pure heart is, but if you go looking for it first,  you could be stuck looking for years on end.”

“Are we at the training room yet?”

“My friend, a shaman boy, said that this amulet was modeled after one of the pure hearts, I have no idea what the amulet does, but if research says I’m correct, the hearts aren’t active right now since the defeat of their counter part, the chaos heart. You could probably reanimate them.”

There’s a thirteen year age gap between my parents, so I’m not particularly bothered by age gaps, as long as both, or all partners are legal, consenting adults, then I don’t see a problem

On Age Differences in Shipping

The biggest argument I’ve seen on here against two consenting adults* in a relationship is that said relationship is unhealthy, and therefore should not have a place in fandom. This has been applied to a lot of different pairings for different reasons - villain characters, mental illness, incest - but I think the one that gets the most attention is age differences.

The logic goes like this: age differences are always unhealthy and are therefore also immoral, and we cannot “normalize” this bad behavior lest the children (think of the children!) think that age differences are okay in real life.

If this is you, I have some news that’s gonna rock your world: age differences ARE okay in real life. People marry people older than themselves every day! Right now there are millions of people all over the world in relationships with 3+ years difference between partners and that’s okay. Your personal values - that everyone should be in a relationship with someone close to their own age - are not everyone’s personal values. And, your personal values are inherently subjective yardsticks with no real inherent meaning other than that which you ascribe to them.

“But age differences are abusive!”

Nope. Nu uh, no way. You can have a relationship with 2 people born on the same goddamn day that’s a dumpster fire and you can have a healthy and loving relationship between people with 10 or 20 years between them. Saying otherwise is the worst kind of conservative republican pearl clutching, and if that statement surprises you then you need to take a step back and look at what you’re advocating.

My sister and her husband are six years apart. My parents, 12. I have a friend whose parents have a 26 year age difference. Do you find that personally gross? Maybe - who cares! It’s not your life, and no one else is telling you that you have to marry someone you find old and gross. But it is every person’s individual right to be with the person that they want to (provided that that person is also a consenting adult), and saying “but I don’t think they should be allowed to be together because I personally find it icky,” is literally the far-right’s justification against the LGBT community.

“But what if one of the people is really young and the other is really old!” 

Is the younger person a legal adult? Yes? Then it’s not your problem! Is it unhealthy? Maybe! Power dynamics can be complicated, but complicated ≠ immoral. Half the fun of fandom is taking two people that don’t automatically fit together and figuring out how to make that work.

Do large age differences have the potential for abuse? Sure! Is that abuse pedophilia? That depends - did you answer “yes” to the question about being a legal adult? Then no! It’s not pedophilia! If neither character is a minor, then it’s not pedophilia! Period! End of story!

I made a post talking about a 40 year old dating a 50 year old, and got this comment:

“it’s creepy to normalize such large age differences, yes, and such relationships can have their roots in pedophilia, but they’re not always such”

Pedophilia has GOT to stop being everyone’s go-to word for “things that I personally dislike” because there is literally no way in which a 40 year old dating a 50 year old can be pedophilia. The power dynamics between someone that’s 20 versus 30 can be complicated. But 40 and 50? The difference in power and shared life experiences are negligible.

Your personal feelings of disgust ≠ objective morality.

If you don’t like it, don’t read it.

Dreamwidth is a social media platform founded in 2009 after Strikethrough

It’s made out of a heavily-modified version of Livejournal code

Getting around your account

Your journal is like your “home”. It’s where you keep your stuff. It’s got different parts:

Recent Entries: View your posts in chronological order

Finding new things

Listing an Interest in your profile is like getting listed in the phonebook. This is opt-in, choosing to say, “Yes! I’m really into this thing! Consider me a person who blogs about it!

Content Search is the more powerful way to search through the blog of everyone who’s opted into it, so you can look for everyone who’s posting about a certain thing right now. However, you’ll have to wade through a lot more junk.

Communities are Dreamwidth’s social hubs. They’re places where a lot of people can share content they’re interested in and talk to each other. Unlike Tumblr tags, they’re managed by specific people and have rules, so people behaving badly can get kicked out.

Paid members can see the Network page, which shows entries from everything everyone in your circle subscribes to. It’s a great way to discover new stuff and also learn what awful taste some of your circle members have

Privacy controls?! That’s a thing?!

You get to choose who sees your posts! You can make your posts public, private, or “locked”, which means only people you’ve added to your access list can read them

When you add a new person to your circle you can choose to subscribe to them, to make their posts show up on your Reading page, and/or to grant access, which lets them see your locked posts. You can do one, the other, or both!

Likewise, communities can make posts viewable to members only.

You can also create custom access filters, to allow only some of your access list to see a post.

Banning someone means they cannot leave you comments or send you messages. There are more advanced tweaks to make sure they never show up on your reading page if they post to a community you subscribe to, or remove them from the comments on a post.

Comments

The comments to a post are where the real fun happens.

Comments are sent to the email of whoever you’re replying to. They’re a real conversation. You’re not shouting into the void–you’re talking back directly to the post’s originator and other commenters.

You can edit your comment so long as it hasn’t been replied to, and you can delete your own comments.

The originator of the post, and administrators if it’s a community, can delete threads, or “freeze” them, leaving them intact but preventing anyone from replying to them.

You will add new skills to your resume

Dreamwidth leaves a lot more “backend” open so you can customize your experience to a huge degree. However, this means learning or using coding languages like HTML and CSS

The comment box on entries does not have a built-in text editor, so you will have to add your own HTML if you want to add <i>italic</i>, <b>bold</b>, or <a href=“http://websiteurl.com”>links</a>.
