Watching the man make his way out of the Pokemon Center, Courtney stood up and slung her bag over her shoulder. She checked to make sure everything was all set and followed after the Hawaii-shirted water-type lover. All the while, she couldn't help but feel as though this man might be someone she knew. His interests seemed very similar to Archie's, but she had heard from various members of Team Magma who had encountered him that he was cold and ruthless. This man was neither. Even though he himself was a foreigner, he still offered to help Courtney find the Pokemon that she was looking for.
When outside of the Pokemon Center, Courtney spotted the man walking back towards the harbor. She picked up her pace and tried to keep up with him, just barely avoiding colliding with men in business suits bustling about this boisterous city. When she had finally caught up to him, she said, "It is true that fire Pokemon are weak to water, but they still have their own advantages and strategies." Courtney pauses while a passerby compliments the Masquerain perched on top of the man's head. "For example, most fire-types can learn Solar Beam which will deal a significant amount of damage against most water-types. In addition, fire Pokemon such as Magmortar can even learn the move Thunderbolt, which not only fries water-types, but can stun any bird Pokemon mid flight! And you can't deny the beauty that fire-types possess."

As they got further down the docks, Courtney looked out across the coast. The glistening water under the warm sun was definitely a breathtaking sight. The ocean seemed to spread out into an endless infinity. "Do you think it'll be quicker to get to Driftveil City by boat, or should we try to get their on land?"
A Poorly Planned Trip || Archie and Courtney
Upon hearing about her want of a Litwik, a chuckle came from him, deep and hearty.  “Ah, a fire type. Interesting choice, I must say.  I always felt that water was superior, for reasons that are obvious.” he said, closing up the map and standing, picking up a simple blue backpack that he had brought with him and swinging it around his back.
“Okay, well, let’s head out to the harbor. I’ll be getting ready to head out there.” the man told her, starting to head out to the docks with his Masquerain floating off of his head and following closely behind. Ah, that overprotective little thing. So clingy. He exited the center with a gesture of his hand that told her to follow, then rounding the corner and being out of sight from the inside.
While walking, he got plenty of people telling him that Lily was great and majestic, to which the bug took great pride in being called. She was indeed a beautiful insect, and was rare all over, especially around here. Once he reached the farthest dock, he would set up the ‘boat’, or at least that was the plan.

Courtney looked down at the map from over the man's shoulder and frowned. It was really far from where they were now. It would probably take days to get there just by walking. Too bad that there was no way to get closer by boat, and flying there was out of question in the first place. Hoenn didn't have any airports to begin with, and Unova seems to only have two. She was about to let out a sigh when a blurred blue mass arose from the ground and made her jump. Once it rested on the man's head, Courtney was able to see that it was a Masquerain, and by the sounds of it, belonged to the gentleman helping her. From it's perch atop of the man's head, the Pokemon shot daggers with its eyes at Courtney. Had she done something to offend it?
"You can?! That would be wonderful!" Courtney replied, completely in shock at his offer.
Tumblr media
"I heard that a Pokemon called Litwick lives within the Celestial Tower. Ever since I heard about them from a traveler back in Hoenn, I've wanted one. When I got time off from work, I bought a boat ticket and a map of Unova completely on a whim and, well..." She looked at her feet knowing how ridiculous she sounded. "I thought that it wouldn't be too hard to find."
She tried to forget the fact that the leader of her rival group, Archie, owns a Masquerain as well. Masquerain were pretty rare Pokemon, but it had to just be a coincidence. Why would Archie be here? He's probably back in Hoenn trying to flood his neighbor's lawns or something. He has no business in Unova. It's pretty much known by everyone in both Team Magma and Team Aqua that the Unova region is strictly Team Plasma territory. That group of delinquents is well known for the hostile way that they treat Pokemon and even steal them from other trainers. No one wants to get in a petty dispute over "who runs what land" with those gangsters.

“Celestial Tower, eh? Erm… That’s sorta far from here. “he said, knowing that part by heart.  The man pulled out his own map and looked it over, finding the tower of dead Pokémon. “Ah, yes, north of Mistralton City.” he commented, poking the location with his finger.  Just as he made the sudden movement, a little light bluish gray thing on the floor rose up, its wings fluttering as it was awoken from its slumber.  A Masquerain. She looked almost mad to see the girl there. Archie looked to see his companion and laughed a bit. “Calm down, Lily. It’s just someone asking for help.”
The bug was clearly ‘bugged’ by the lady’s presence. She looked familiar. Too familiar. Of course, as a Pokémon, helping Archie realize this wasn’t going to be easy. She made a fuming buzz noise and relaxed again, plopping on his head that had hair slicked back a bit, but it wasn’t shiny. Just how the pirate liked it.
“Aye, I can help you get there. Any reason you wanna go?” he asked, looking up at her, but being careful not to accidentally drop his companion onto the floor. That would be bad for her, and would look horrible for him.

cannon-genius replied to your post: Why Courtney?
((Courtney was one of my first fave Pokémon characters srsly))
(( She was definitely one of mine as well! Most of the Hoenn characters were lovable, especially your rival since he/she was friends with the protag, unlike Green or Silver! ))

Why Courtney?
(( Why did I choose to RP as Courtney? Well! I guess there are a few different reasons, so I'll go through them in no particular order.
My first Gameboy game was Pokemon Ruby Version. My mom took me and my older brother to Circuit City (an electronics store that has pretty much gone out of business where I live now) when I was like eight or nine so we could buy games. My older brother and I would always collect Pokemon cards, but I had never owned a Pokemon game before whereas my older brother had been a fan of the games since the release of Red and Blue Versions. He had convinced me to try out a Pokemon game, but the only two that Circuit City carried were Ruby and Sapphire. Ever since then, Ruby has always been my favorite Pokemon game, Torchic has always been my favorite starter, and Team Magma has always been my favorite evil team.
I also chose Courtney because she wasn't really your typical, mainstream character like Red or Lance or even Skyla. Courtney wasn't really a major character in the games. You only had to battle her once in the game, maybe twice depending on the route that you took in the Underwater Cavern. The manga portrays her a bit differently with an entirely different team of Pokemon. But in both cases, there wasn't really much to her. I saw this as both a challenge and as an opportunity. It's a bit hard because there isn't much to build a role-playable character from, but that is also the fun of it. I pretty much get to create my own version of her that is unique to me. Most characters have concrete personalities, but vary a bit from RPer, but Courtney doesn't. It's an opportunity to really get to know my childhood villains and fall in love with them again, as well as to improve my writing skills and character development.
I think my final reason is because, well, doesn't everyone like to be the "bad guy" every once in a while? To be able to try and think from a different perspective than the hero/protagonist is a lot of fun. It's very different from other characters that I've RPed as in the past!
And finally, those Team Magma uniforms are pretty #swaqqie, I mean
Look at those hoods and horns!! And the capes!! Team Flair ain't got nuthin' on these babes. (ノ´ヮ´)ノ*:・゚✧
So yeah. That's why I chose Courtney! (✿◠‿◠) ))

The man turned around and analyzed her. Courtney felt as if she was placed under a spotlight and blushed a bit. She hadn't realized that she had interrupted him while he was enjoying his coffee. But the man had an air about him, one of power and energy... one that Courtney couldn't help but find familiar.
"Umm... Y-yeah. I'm trying to find my way to the uh..." Courtney fumbled for a small piece of paper in her pocket. "The uh Celestial Tower? You wouldn't know how to get there, would you? I can't seem to find it on my map..." she trailed off.
This nagging feeling in the back of her head kept telling her that she knew this person. That they had met somewhere before. But she was almost positive that she didn't. If it was one of her acquaintances from Hoenn, she would have recognized them right away. Although, she didn't disregard the idea completely; he was wearing a ridiculous flowery shirt that was a trademark for tourists worldwide, meaning that it was likely that he wasn't from Unova either.
A Poorly Planned Trip || Archie and Courtney
A voice came from behind him, and the sailor looked back. A younger girl stood next to him, asking for his attention. She probably wanted directions, and he knew near-to-nothing about the city, but he could at least try to help. She wasn’t that bad looking, after all. And his soft spot for gals was always ahead of anything else.
“Hmm? Ye want something, kid?” he responded, scratching his stubble a bit with a free hand. The other was holding a mug of coffee from a local café. Not bad for some other region, though they didn’t have the same deep taste that Hoenn brews did. Now those were good; deep and dark, rich in the flavor that was brewed from the best of coffee beans. Now it wasn’t as good as he heard Linoone coffee was, but then again, he didn’t exactly want to try it.
After closer inspection, he noticed that she looked from out of town. Out of region, in all honesty. But so did he, with his flower covered vacationing shirt that he decided to wear on the first day out. He could constantly imagine his crew pointing and laughing at him, so the Pokémon Center was the only safe place. Of course, he had his regular outfit packed up and at his hotel room, along with other things that he had dragged along with him on his little trip. He never left home without that navy blue shirt with the Aqua symbols. But she did look familiar. Maybe too much so for his comfort.

A Poorly Planned Trip || Archie and Courtney
The sun was blinding and the taste of salt water was thick in the air. People were bustling about around her and vague orders being shouted by sailors and cargo workers could be heard. Ahead loomed the expansive city of Castelia, and within it figures can be seen moving about like ants.
Courtney felt both excited and nervous at the same time. This was her first time outside of the Hoenn region, where only a handful of cities were even a fraction of how large Castelia is. The sight was breathtaking; so much so that Courtney stopped halfway through getting off the small ship that took her there which visibly annoyed those behind her.
She decided that the first thing that she was going to do would be to go to the Pokemon Center and plan out what her next step should be. She was so focused on her goal—the one and only reason why she even came to the Unova region—that she had forgotten to plot what to do once she actually got to Unova.
The Pokemon Center wasn't too hard for Courtney to find. It could actually be seen from the pier that her boat docked at. Once she was inside it, she immediately felt alienated. These Pokemon Centers were much different than those back in Hoenn. There was a lounging area to the left which was larger than those back at home, there was a balcony above the reception desk which overlooked the rest of the Center, and (the most surprising of all) there was a PokeMart inside of the Center!
Feeling a bit lost, Courtney looked for a seat in the corner of the Center. She was appreciative of the fact that she did not have to wear her Team Magma uniform when not working; she would have stuck out like a sore thumb. After sitting down and relaxing a bit, she took out a map of the Unova region from her bag. She laid it out in front of her and tried to flatten the creases, but to no apparent avail. There seemed to be much more land than she remembered, which meant more places to have to look for it. Realizing that she could not do this alone, she sighed and looked around the lounge area for someone who may be able to help her.
Unfortunately, there was only one other person in the lounge area other than her. Weighing her odds, she swallowed her fear and approached the person.
"E-excuse me?" Courtney asked, hoping that she didn't sound quite as nervous as she felt.
