Another show killed off by Zaslav, years ago yes but somehow I think that's worse. Especially with Megas and their whole being written off for tax reasons thing
I just dig giant robots man, so this one hurts so much more

Finished reading Lord of the Rings (well appendices still to read, a maybe atm)
Overall very good and worth the read. Did start out a bit rough in Fellowship with all the frontloading of Hobbit lore & setup but from Rivendell onwards it was generally better. The other two books I had much better times with from beginning to end
I had seen the Peter Jackson films back in the day, seen some clips of the making of & how things were changed in adaptation but not that much in the grand scheme. Played video and tabletop games of it here and there in between, then last year I saw the extended editions over a weekend at the cinema.
Started seeing clips again and got me thinking of reading the books, one friend had recently tried to read through them but they couldn't so they lent them to me (The Harper Collins 90s paperback set, red box with John Howe cover illustrations for the curious) . It was more Tolkiens style of writing that put them off, which tbf I could see why soon enough. They did say they would try again sometime down the line though.
Getting through them it was indeed a very distinct experience, the differing events, character moments and the characters who are only in the book to name a few things
Don't dream to summarize it all but a few things off top of my head atm
Tom Bombadill was everything I was led to believe him to be, even moreso perhaps. Enjoyed greatly
Gimli in general. Did hear a little how the films and book are very different but it's practically night and day. Did like the more serious/reflective Gimli moments, the talks with Legolas were highlights
The amount of songs/poetry etc. Knew there'd be some but there was far more than I was expecting
Scouring of the Shire was probably the chapter I'd heard get brought up most in book vs film talk. Expected some of it, but the other parts genuinely caught me offguard. See now why there is such talk about it
Would I go back and read it all again? Probably not, not for a long while at least. Fellowship really did drag the most for me and while the two after were better, there were still some sections that dragged in them also. I'm glad to have read them but I think past the appendices I'll be good. No silmarillion for me, cannot bear that burden
