(Lifesteal s5 spoilers for my understanding of The Players' plans, from catching incomplete sections of streams and osmosis. I do not think this is spoilers for any of them but I am not keeping up very well, so please correct me if I am wrong and I'll edit this. It's a little bit rambly, sorry.)
So, aside from the unrequited pitchflirting, my understanding of the Players' main finale plans are that they want to remove all of the buildings and restore the server or at least the main areas to looking the way they did at the start of the server, before anyone built anything. And this has some justification about like being a fresh start to the world, aside from the fact that it's a cool dramatic thing to do, but also!
It's really neat how the thing it does is specifically making the server look as though nobody ever played on it. Because the Players' whole thing, their primary conflict with primarily Jumper and Minute (I don't think they have a team name?) is that they're the only people willing to play heel, to do cool evil dramatic shit that other people can make content by fighting against, and almost everyone else (no offense intended to Squiddo or Wemmbu but they haven't been on much lately?) is either neutral, inactive, or insistently playing face?
And in the arguments between the players and Jumper and Minute, it has come up that the opposing side wants to end the server without conflict, and the Players' argument in favor of what they're doing is that it's interesting content which creates a reason for the other players to log on and participate. (This has consistently been their motivation since early in the Abyss arc)
And I think that in addition to the other justification, restoring the world to look untouched is a pretty powerful statement of "This is what you're advocating for the world to be: one where nobody ever logs on and does anything or fights or builds things that matter."
(In the interest of fairness, I know Minute was talking about like, getting people onto the server by having temporary mods during the sessions, and Branzy does have his carnival, and I do enjoy this content, but... at least to me, the fundamental strength of Lifesteal content qua Lifesteal (Minecraft's deadliest SMP), as a reason to be watching this rather than something else-- like a modded or survival series that happens to be made by the same people-- is the social effects of a bunch of people who are mostly tryhards in a competitive environment that encourages conflict and teaming and subterfuge and paranoia and big dramatic clickbaitable gestures?)
(I do in fact think it's fun and interesting when there are some people on Lifesteal who care about morality and want to do the nice thing! This is a fun source of conflict! I just... think it's more fun when that's not the majority of people who are logging on and doing anything, because then there's the risk of them uncomplicatedly winning, or successfully preventing or mitigating or discouraging the majority of the dramatic evil/annoying stuff, and then nothing happening? Lifesteal content is primarily about conflict. It's maybe a little more fun when the people involved have in-universe justifications that are not just "it's for content", painting the fourth wall with a thin veneer of "it's because it's cool and asserts our power" or some galaxybrained self-serving philosophical/metaphorical justification explaining why this supervillain stuff is the real moral thing to do, or whatever? But it's still fun as long as people are like, logging in and doing stuff and fighting or arguing with each other, and maybe having some big feelings? and at least one person is live or making videos so we can see what's happening)

Zam's conversation and speech and then carting in order to die right in front of new president Minute was good. This is a fun dynamic, and Zam has a good voice and a good laugh about it. Minute is so idealistic and naive about what would make a cool ending to the server.

Some of the notes have brought to my attention that the relevant context for this post is a mix of fairly old videos with recent enough streams that there are not relevant edited YouTube videos available yet, so I will add some clips for explanations and context. (Transcripts below the cut.)
S3 (Ashswag's edited video):
S5 (MinuteTech's abyss arc finale stream):
twitch_clip
twitch_clip
twitch_clip
Clip 1 (S3, Ashswag's issues with Zam's elevator):
Ash, voiceover, accompanied by footage of Ash pressing a button and then lagging and falling through the floor of the redstone elevator as it rises: This elevator has been discriminating against me for several months now. You see, it runs on some really fancy slime-honeyblock redstone that my internet cannot keep up with. Ash, in the footage: I'm gonna get my revenge on this elevator, one way or the other.
Clip 2 (S5, Ashswag learns Bacon wrote the math problem wrong):
Minute: (okay we're back we're back, chat)
Ash: And you know what the worst part is? Bacon-- I just asked Bacon and he said, "oh, yeah I'm sorry, I didn't know that was the symbol for determinants." I swear when I see this guy at VidCon, I swear, somebody hold me back.
Minute: Oh my gosh, oh my gosh.
Ash: When I see this kid at VidCon, somebody hold me back.
Minute: Oh my god.
Ash: It's absolute value. He-- you know what absolute value is, Minute?
Minute: Yeah, yeah--
Ash: Absolute value is if you get a negative number, it's just the number, it's just the positive version, and-- and this kid didn't know that it's the symbol for determinants, he didn't know it's a symbol for magnit[ude]--
Clip 3 (S5, Ash reacting to Bacon's math error with Minute pre-event):
Ash: I hope someone in chat feels my pain. I genuinely do, I don't know how-- I'm lost for words right now. I've played on this server three years: never been this angry. And he's being so like stuck up about it, chat, you don't know--
Minute: Okay, whatever. What do we get, though, what do we get now?
Ash: This is the-- hold on, one second, let me vent for a second.
Minute: Okay.
Ash: This is like the culmination of weeks and weeks of them being like, "oh, why don't you guys just solve the puzzles", "oh why're you guys just complaining, obviously we're going to stall", being like stuck up about their stupid holier-than-thou mission. They're trying to void spawn and they're trying to make us seem like the crazy people. Never let anyone gaslight you into thinking that you're not worth it, chat. That's my advice for today.
Clip 4 (S5, Ash confronts Bacon about the math errors):
Ash: No, Bacon, not a shred of-- you know how much-- bro. I got called a clown in my math gc. I want you to know that. Because you wrote the question wrong.
Bacon: That's so funny. Okay, wait, what did I write wrong? What did I write wrong, I'm actually curious.
Minute: Bro, I don't wanna fucking talk about it, bro, let's just do our epic finale, please! Let's do our epic finale now, please!
Ash: 23^7819, you wrote "2^37819", it's not possible to solve modular arithmetic when the highest common denominator between 26 and 2 is 2, the Euler's totient formula just doesn't work. It just doesn't work. And also the fucking absolute value thing you did? Boy do I have-- dude, matrices? That symbol is for determinant. And you just-- bro--
Bacon: Yeah, no, actually, I'm remembering this now, I haven't done matrix-- I only did, it was like a year ago.
Ash: (Oh my f--) I'm making-- I don't care, you're gonna get hate comments. I'm saying all of this in the video, I'm--
Zam (background): Oh my god.
Bacon: Wait, wait! No, this isn't my fault, though! This is Meep's fault!
Ash: I don't care.
Minute (background, overlapping): Whatever bro, whatever bro, whatever bro, it's done, it's done, it's done, it's done, let's do our cool--
Bacon: The determinant thing was my fault, but unfortunately the other thing is Meep's fault.

If it weren’t for Subz and Vitalasy, she’d be dead or witched. She wouldn’t have a bed to sleep on or food to eat or a fancy alarm system warning her if Mapicc shows up. She wouldn’t have two wonderful, perfect girlfriends who hug her and offer reassurances when she’s panicking and care about what she wants. She owes them her life. She owes them everything. This is what Vitalasy wants, and so Zam should want it too.

or: Vitalasy doesn’t want to hurt Zam. this doesn’t always help.

I did edits/cuts of just everything in ItzSubz_'s 2023/04/16 Lifesteal S4 VODs, "First Quarter Moon" that was at all lore or lore-relevant or interestingly characterizing.
The first edit (13m) is Subz talking to himself and Vitalasy before the meeting, mostly just resource grinding.
The second edit (22m) is a simple cut of the meeting with Vitalasy, where Vitalasy says he wants to finish the prison to put Zam into it, and Subz has reservations and feelings but does not object, and then Vitalasy asks Subz to avenge him if he is killed in his upcoming meeting with Mapicc, Roshambo, Spoke, and Parrot. (This has almost complete overlap with Vitalasy's VOD, so I have it as a separate video to make assembling Eclipse Federation playlists with minimal overlap easier.)
The third edit (35m) is Subz having feelings about Vitalasy and Zam after the meeting, and reacting to Vitalasy getting bookbanned and not responding to his messages asking what to do.
The fourth edit (27m) is Subz mostly mining quartz and talking to Vitalasy and Zam and having feelings about all of their relationships, around the time of Vitalasy's prison podcast. At the end, he visits his own sign rooms and talks to chat about feeling like his relationships with Vitalasy and Zam are doomed.
The original VODs were 8h3m long; the edits total 1h38m long.

aita for using a glitch?
I (M ~19) have been studying a glitch I found for almost a year now. A couple months ago, I and a few of my friends (M16, M19, M19) made a breakthrough that allows me to fly, obtain some items from creative mode such as modded swords, bedrock and barrier blocks, spawn eggs, potions that give much more powerful effects than vanilla, etc. I’ve been keeping the extent of it a secret because it would be dangerous for this glitch to be public knowledge before it’s patched, but two of the aforementioned friends decided to publicize parts of their abilities (placing bedrock at spawn, spawning OP mobs, etc). More recently, I opened up to my boyfriend-at-the-time (M18) about some of it, but he told his friend (NB16) about it and they used replay mod(!) to discover my vault with all of my exploited items. My (now ex) boyfriend decided that I was clearly going to be a villain and decided to betray and kill me. I’ve tried working it out with him and explaining my perspective–that I just have the knowledge of this glitch now and I haven’t actually done anything bad with it–but he maintains that having/using exploits is inherently unfair and wrong, even though he has no problems with his friend using replay mod to find my vault. The other night I was trying to decide whether to try and renounce the glitch, destroy my exploited items, etc., and join him and his friends, or whether I should be the villain he clearly wants me to be, and the friend who found my vault with him decided to start annoying me and saying that I was inevitably going to be a villain and should stop pretending to be unsure or have qualms, so I trapped them in the bedrock prison I built, took all their stuff, and spawnkilled them for a bit before giving their stuff back and letting them go free. Now everyone’s even MORE mad at me, even though they’ve still hurt me more than I’ve hurt them! Sometimes when we’re arguing they make some convincing points, and I don’t want to keep hurting them, but I want them to understand my side too. AITA?

i've seen a lot of people talk about mcyt as a constantly burning library of alexandria recently, and to some extent that's true. people are constantly deleting their blogs, going scorched earth with animatics, fanfics, etc., that they made. but i've also seen people (three in the last few days!) make this claim about VODs, when talking about large fandoms like DSMP and QSMP, and.... guys. that was true in 2020. that's not true anymore. archivists have been working tirelessly for years now to make sure that isn't true.
the dsmp VOD masterlist is here. in november 2020, it's missing 16 VODs, if i am counting correctly--which is still a fairly small minority, but it's a lot, and it sucks!--but in november of 2021, it's missing one, and that's because the cc of that VOD does copyright takedowns, not because the archivists didn't save it. no one in the archivist project is deleting VODs off youtube with no backups the way people are deleting fanfics. three months ago, one of my dsmp archivist friends finished coding a tool that let them reconstruct VODs out of twitch clips, and reconstructed six tubbo dsmp VODs from 2020. not only are we basically not losing VODs anymore, we are actively gaining VODs that have been lost for years, that were thought to be lost forever. the library isn't burning anymore; it's being rebuilt.
the qsmp VOD masterlist is here. it is usually a month or two behind the present day, to give creators time to archive their own VODs, but... look at it. in january of 2024, every single qsmp vod was archived. the same is true of december of 2023, and november, and the vast majority of months for the past year.
i'm not going to say that there isn't a problem. just a few days ago, i realized that a lifesteal VOD from last year was missing--that its youtube upload was messed up somehow, and no one noticed and it wasn't mirrored on the internet archive and the person who uploaded it deleted the original file. and now it's gone forever. this made me super sad! like i said: i'm not going to say that there isn't a problem.
but... look at the lifesteal VOD masterlist here. lifesteal's a smaller fandom than qsmp or dsmp. open the 2022 tab and you'll see months and months of lost VODs, of no one's VODs being saved, because there weren't any archivists saving them. then open the 2023 tab and see: they lost four VODs, over the course of a year. even in smaller fandoms, archivists are working. they're making progress. they're saving VODs. in 2024, lifesteal archivists screenrecorded five streams on tumblr live to make sure they would not become lost media. mcyt may be a constantly burning library of alexandria, but the people with fire extinguishers are dedicated. they're making incredible progress. i know people with petabytes of VODs saved, who have spent money on extra storage for this. i know people who are constantly running up against their storage limits as they download/upload to the internet archive/delete for space/rinse and repeat. a decent fraction of the time, my internet at home is slow because it's downloading VODs.
and these aren't the only mcyt fandoms with archiving projects! the outsiders smp VOD masterlist is here. origins smp VOD masterlist is here. smp earth VOD masterlist is here. rats smp VOD masterlist is here. there are so many others that i just don't happen to know about. the older and smaller a fandom is, the more likely it is to not have an attached archiving project, or for the archive to be missing a lot of VODs. but... guys, we've saved a lot. there are people out there, working tirelessly to save even more. yes, mourn what we have lost--the archivists i know are also the ones mourning the most for the VODs that are, in fact, forever lost media. but don't dismiss how much people have saved. we are making progress. we are losing less and less every month. the vast majority of the dsmp and qsmp still exist, i am not going to say they're the same experience as watching live because they're really not, but.. they're out there. people have put in a lot of work to save them.
if you have publicly available VOD masterlists or other mcyt archiving projects that aren't on this post, please add them in a reblog. i want this post to serve as a reference for how much archivists have saved in this community; unfortunately, i'm not super connected to every community. but i know that--for every person deleting things, there are people working, tirelessly & with little external reward, in so many different mcyt fandoms, to save things. and we should appreciate that more often.

Sorry, poopies is a wonderful terror and a delight and a treasure, and perhaps ought to be added to every minecraft server in the entire world for comedic purposes, but it is simply not, narratively or socially, a child, and so it does not have my vote for the purposes of this bracket.
