so ive loved your thing au since I first saw it, even without having watched the movie.

now that ive watched the movie, all I can say is holy shit, this is awesome! i love your uncanny Sun and the movie?? was so good?? like i was a lil skeptical at first bc of how old it is graphics wise but it scared me more than once!

thank you for introducing me to the thing 🙏🙏 might be one of my new favorite horror movies

the graphics are my favourite part, the guy doing the special effects was only about 21 when he did it!! One of his first movies I think, which is just incredible to me. Would totally be my dream to work on something like that.

It's difficult to explain—in the yautja culture, to mate is to submit another to you, in... every sense. Males keep trying to impress female yautja, fighting and trying to prove they're strong enough (females are usually bigger and meaner), until the female finally decides to allow them to mate (or decides the male should be the one to submit instead).

For this reason, R'ka and Luar-ke both feel the need to submit the other, which can lead to some... problems, of course.

For this reason, they're not mates. They do act like a mated pair tho. And kiss.

They kiss by gently headbutting each other and clicking their mandibles together <3

In your "The thing au" what does assimilate mean and do exactly?

So the word assimilate just means to infect basically. In the movie this usually happens when the creature is alone for a period of time with a victim and has the chance to copy their dna onto the victim, basically replacing the cells. However, if you catch it during this phase it typically is very vulnerable

SO; I do have some thoughts about this.

I think that if it were within the first arc (aka where the movie takes place in the fic) he'd be able to move on quite quickly. Unfortunately, this would lead to his fate being the same as all the other thing assimilations in the movie. As the assistant is the only person keeping him on the right path by his drive to protect them from harm. He's only fighting his instincts to assimilate others through the assistant, and therefore I think he'd be found out very quickly and killed.

However, if we're talking much later on (after the first arc) where there's now many more complex feelings involved, it would be a much worse fate for them. They'd never recover and would withdraw into some small dark hole where they'd attach themself to the infrastructure and let their organs spread out to cover it in one big mass. Think like the stuff in 'below the deep'

He'd not have the strength to try and assimilate anyone and there wouldn't be anyone around for him to try. But, I do think he'd probably consider absorbing the readers body into this mass, so that they'd be able to lay to rest together (if they had died in this case).

However, if he'd lost them through other means we'll... let's just say there's no where on the planet he wouldn't be able to find you again.
