some of you need to learn that being a fan of a team doesn’t mean forming a weird parasocial relationship with your fav team’s twitter account and it’s really not entirely your fault because avs social literally encourages it but…consider that they’re just trying to get more engagement because that’s literally their job

Here’s a thing that happened to one of my friends. I was there.

Basically, we were walking down the sidewalk, talking about something meaningless. I think it had to do with social media. Then this bus screeches up, stops next to us, and a bunch of people with “Down with Avs” shirts climbed out and started beating him up. I was punched and kicked a bit too, but I managed to avoid brutalization by going for their faces. After figuring out what’s happening, I started attacking them back, getting them off of him. He was quite injured but I called 911 and he made a full recovery at the hospital. I was fine, with only a cut on my arm that they patched up.

since theres some discussion on my dash about being that this person still gets to write for pucker up sports :-) (for full transparency this was back in January before the more recent round of rowling stuff) and a decent amount of cis ppl who were mutuals with both of us said nothing as this happened and one of those super popular

ryan reaves was willing to be the only player walking out on tonight's game, as he was willing to be the only player kneeling for the anthem. i'm deeply glad that he wasn't, that other nhl players on his team and others stood with him. the fact that he would have done it anyway despite the not-low likelihood of it impacting his career.......players of color shouldn't have to take point on this. i'm glad they aren't alone now. but damn, i've never respected an nhl player like i respect ryan reaves, matt dumba, and jt brown.
