Today's audio is a short story by Donald Barthelme, originally published in 1973. I found it through a list of short stories people had posted that they'd read in school and that had stuck with them. I recognized many on the list, but hadn't read this one, and I realized it would be great fun to add to the channel! I hope you agree.

This one isn't officially part of my In the Song series because this script is by Lupin! However, she did write it song-inspired. Can you guess which song?

Please note that the script uses she/her pronouns for the Listener, and specifies a man as the potential love interest. Anyone can listen, of course, but if any of those details will take you out of immersion, I thought I'd let you know in advance.

When Lupin wrote the script, she posted it on Twitter and I immediately recorded it because I wanted to see what I could do in one take. Tonight you get to hear the results (there were no sound effects in the original, though).
