The Spirit of Pinoy Noche Buena
Noche Buena, simply put, is Spanish for "good night" literally, but in the Philippines, la noche buena is full of cultural and religious meaning. The nation has been a Spanish colony for more than three hundred years, and so the customs and history of the Catholics are profound. For the Filipinos, this means the feast before Christmas. More precisely, it is a meal that has been served after the midnight mass to celebrate Christmas Day. It can sound surprising to Westerners that Filipino families celebrate ham and cheese at midnight before Christmas. It is important to understand that the Philippines is a Third World country, with more than 90% of the population living below the poverty line. For many, ham and cheese are luxuries that they can't afford even once a year. When you hear and learn about luxurious good night spreads in the Philippines, they can be found in the homes of middle-class and upper-class households. Depending on where you are in the social spectrum, these are some of the noche buena staples you can find in christmas grocery packages among Pinoy households:
Fruitcake - There's a fruit cake in the Philippines, too. Families who count successful bakers among their members have their own recipes; others merely buy fruit cake from nearby bakeries. The consistency of the fruit cake in the Philippines varies from awful to terrifically fine. Prices range from bakery to bakery.
Lechon - Any Filipino festivity would not be complete without the King at the table, particularly at Noche Buena. It can be any meat—such as pig, goat, beef or chicken—as long as it is grilled over coals. This whole roasted pig, usually dipped in Mang Tomas, was the highlight of any celebration.
Lumpia - There are several versions of lumpia in the Philippines, but lumpiang shanghai is everyone’s all-time favorite! Considered the star of every Filipino festivity, you cannot call it a celebration without the presence of lumpiang shanghai. But if you’re going for a healthier lifestyle, lumpia can also come in a vegetarian version!
Barbecue - Both chicken or pork, the smoky and mouth-watering fragrance of marinated bamboo meat grilled over charcoal and bathed in soy sauce, garlic and vinegar is the most delightful anticipation on Christmas Eve.
Grocery gift baskets don’t need to be that extravagant. What’s important is during the Christmas season, we all remember the true spirit of having the traditional Pinoy Noche Buena with the family. It can be as simple as the holiday bundles by Malagos Homegrown which you can get for as low as P1500.00. This davao online grocery delivery service definitely reminds us all the true spirit of Christmas with their selection of pinoy homegrown products. Check them out at malagoshomegrownproduce.com.

Online Shopping is Here to Stay for Good
Tumblr media
Shopping online is here to stay, and the rise in online purchases is exponential. Shopping online is something that anybody can do with a bit of coaching, some experience, and the right equipment. At the price you want to pay, you will find what you want. There is no exception to this. In reality, with the complexity and pace of online shopping tools, customers spend more and more on shopping mall websites. Shopping online is a fantastic time and money saver, and with promotional coupon codes you save even more. It's a lot more comfortable, too when you don't have to leave your home or office. Simple online shopping through member organizations Online Marketplace lets member organizations expand, succeed and continue to support the people in their communities.
When we decided to spend on staples such as essential food, toiletries, hygiene products, we took care of our lives. The ordinary shopper says, I might not have much control over the storm outside, but I can definitely control what's going on inside my house. This meant an increase in demand for home entertainment, fitness and home jobs. If I can't find anything online, I'm going to the local supermarket, armed with my sanitizer, gloves and mask. The way we customers have deliberately adapted our buying patterns is a testimony to our adaptability and durability. We didn't give up; we just hunkered down to defy the odds. In the post-Covid age, we plan to stay in charge of a more thoughtful and sanitized shopping experience.
Locally, Davao online grocery and delivery has seen a major revolution this year especially that we’ve been under numerous lockdowns and quarantines for several months. We’ve learned how to make do of the available resources that we have, and more importantly, shift our focus to supporting local and small businesses. We’ve learned the importance of understanding where our food comes from and the convenience that online shopping has provided us when it comes to assuring food safety. Buying local fresh vegetables in Davao now doesn’t have to be in actual supermarkets because there are plenty of Davao fresh fruit and vegetable suppliers we can choose from like Malagos Homegrown Produce. They offer individually sold veggies, and also those that come in bundles and promos. Check them out now at malagoshomegrownproduce.com.

Safe Holidays for 2020
Tumblr media
Do you wonder about gathering for Christmas and other holiday seasons? Weighing what's safe, what's risky? Today, we share our own plans and suggestions for this year as COVID-19 prices increase in countries across the Philippines.
For people who are planning to have family get-togethers and other gatherings, we cannot emphasize this enough: tests beforehand are mandatory. The best option is to have a full 10-to-14-day quarantine before you meet. This would mean a quarantine at the meeting place. Here's why: if you quarantine for 14 days in place X, but then fly by plane to place Y, proximity to aircraft and airports could, in principle, put you at danger. It might be necessary to use innovative quarantine experiments to safely shorten the length of quarantine, although such methods are not currently sponsored. These measures are particularly important for teens or those with strong immune systems, since they are more likely to be asymptomatic if they have the virus than others. If the weather is perfect where you are, try dining outdoors.
For feasts and festivities, it’s better to stay home, stay safe, and shop online. And not just, online, but choose davao online grocery and delivery services that offer homegrown options for customers. The first observation is that new colorful vegetables contain the most nutrient benefit relative to pre-packaged and frozen foods. The second is that naturally growing chemical-free vegetables contain more minerals and nutrients than traditional chemically grown vegetables. The third is that the dollar's return on money spent on seed growing a vegetable garden – though a small one – is astounding.
Now if we take this a step further and cultivate these vegetables ourselves, or at least buy them locally-from the farmers market or "our" farmer/gardener/neighbor who produces too many to feed themselves-we will take advantage of nutrients to our advantage. Now more than ever, we need to be careful about the decisions that we make not only for our own health sake, but for the people around us too. For the best homegrown delivery options, you can just type “online grocery store near me” on Google and find malagoshomegrownproduce.com easily. Stay safe these holidays!

Easy Holiday Recipes for Kitchen Beginners
Tumblr media
The Christmas dinner is the most meaningful meal of the year for a variety of households. The entire ritual of arranging and baking is relished by many cooks: it is an act of devotion. This is not to suggest that it does not come in handy with a few shortcuts. For the person who toils in the kitchen, the day will feel overstuffed, work-wise. Any aid can be used by the rest of us. Simplify things this season by hosting a casual get-together full of comforting, delicious foods that are easy to prepare. Stress-free is the way to be. Every cook needs some go-to basic recipes for holiday gatherings, whether it's a fast dip as an appetizer or a simple salad or side to share at the table. Here are some of our favorite simple holiday recipes, from a three-ingredient prime rib roast to a garlic-and-herb-crusted leg of lamb.
The 3-ingredient Prime Rib Roast - Coffee and prime rib seem to be unexpected friends, but the recipe from Ryan Farr shows that they both have an earthy quality that makes them a perfect fit. Until eating, please make careful to scrape away any leftover coffee rub from the beef.
Garlic and Herb Crusted Leg of Lamb - In the middle, this leg of lamb is ideally juicy, with a great crust. The recipe is so simple that it's great for a dinner party.
Chicken Cacciatore with Creamy Mashed Potatoes - Change up your chicken game with mushrooms, peppers, and tomatoes atop creamy mashed potatoes.
Baked Huevos Rancheros - For a Holiday Brunch: Scrambled eggs eaten over tortillas and smothered in sauce and cheese are popular huevos rancheros. Here in individual gratin dishes, we bake eggs, tortilla chips and cheese in seasoned tomato sauce. Swap pepper Jack with Monterey Jack to get a fiery kick for more advanced eaters.
20-Minute Skillet Salmon - You're only 20 minutes away from sizzling salmon in a creamy sauce infused with cucumber and dill.
If you’re really that much preoccupied, you can also opt for meal kits and be an instant chef within seconds! Davao online meal kits are now available in Malagos Homegrown Produce davao grocery and delivery. Just type “where to order meal kits for holidays near me” on Google and you’ll easily find their website malagoshomegrownproduce.com.

Christmas Carolling in the Philippines
Tumblr media
Have you seen children ringing the door bell, belting out Christmas songs in unison? Well, namamasko po!
Christmas caroling is a tradition in the Philippines where groups of children go home as they serenade homeowners with Christmas music. Typically they plan short tracks, along with homemade musical instruments, to allow the overall show. Songs like "Jingle Bells, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, and Feliz Navidad" are songs that kids normally sing.
There are those who sing a capella, or who accompany a guitar, a tambourine, or other improvised musical instrument. Caroling used to be very plain. Today, however, some carolers have choreography, costumes and props. This in exchange would mean that you should give them a token of thanks in the form of money (coins) or food, but you are not expected to do so. To enjoy the gesture, homeowners typically give P10 to P50 to carolers, but usually P100 and above for adults with full production and props. Typically, these adults are part of organisations that use money for a reason, so it's best to send them some. Besides money, you can still offer food or snacks. Since Christmas carolers usually start on the evening of December 16th, you can give them the food they can eat during Noche Buena. Or if you're generous enough you can share some meal kits for a gift, and other christmas gift ideas like toys too so that kids can experience the spirit of Christmas, that is, sharing.
In fact, this Filipino culture has developed in several ways. When we were little, we just used to do it on foot, knocking from house to house to belt out Christmas songs that are already too familiar. We would fabricate our own props out of coca-cola bottle caps, nails and small wood palettes. It was fun and really nostalgic to think about those days when we would be so proud to earn even just a 100 bucks for a whole night of roaming around our neighborhood. Now that I see these new generations of carollers getting even more resourceful and creative, even bringing along with them bluetooth speakers as an accompaniment, I can’t help but feel warm about how this tradition still went on to last until today. For a change, you can give these carollers easy DIY kits. For more ideas, you can check out Davao meal kit delivery service, malagoshomegronwproduce.com

How to Make the Most Out of Christmas Season
Tumblr media
The Christmas season is one of the finest ways to enjoy all year long. Yet we also take it for granted or regard it as yet another task on our list of to-do activities. I wrote this post to give you suggestions about how to make the most of this year's Christmas celebration. According to studies of positive psychology, the fact that good things happen to us does not always mean that we feel better. It's how we treat our personal milestones, the compliments we get, or the chance for a lazy Saturday morning that counts. It matters at least as much to our long-term well-being as to our means of dealing with loss and painful emotions.
Tradition is a memorable aspect of Christmas. To bake Christmas cookies, to string outside decorations, and to attend church on Christmas Eve are some of the traditions that we do every year. Today, we’ve rounded up some ways of keeping traditions alive, and making Christmas a little more homegrown.
Do some baking. In the sweets department, many people think of the holidays as a time to rest, eat and drink well and enjoy the pleasure of a few delicacies. With the kinds of stuff you bake, such as cookies, pies, cakes, or sweets, you can get inventive. Do a quest online for old-fashioned sweets and see what you can come up with that could impress your dinner and house guests and delight them.
Avoid the Rush. Start your schedule early, instead of racing around and confronting all the busy stores and last-minute shoppers. Do not wait to get what you need until 2 days before Christmas. You will be more able to sit back and enjoy the holidays when the time arrives if you settle on presents some weeks before the holiday. When you are more organized for family celebrations, you can also feel more relaxed around your friends and family. Last-minute shopping is only used to cause frustration and to tire out people.
Serve homegrown food. A thoughtful way to make the holiday dinner table more traditional is to serve some home-grown food. If you've done some canning or freezing this year, made homemade preserves or jellies, or grown a variety of vegetables, it's time to serve them at your Christmas meal. Or if you've found the time to buy the best meal kits in Davao City, it's a nice time to have fun with your friends and family by cooking together. Where to buy meal kits in Davao? Just check out malagoshomegrownproduce.com. Aside from their signature Malagos Homegrown Produce bundles of veggies, they also have tons of meal kits that make food preparation for the holidays so much more convenient.

Bonding with the Kids this Holiday Season
Tumblr media
When it comes to finding ways to stay connected with their children, there's some amazing creativity in dads (often with the aid of moms), and here are some suggestions we've learned from dads over the past few weeks. The holidays carry lots of events and traditions for many people, and they're all fantastic. Do you also need to recall the true reason behind the whole activity: to celebrate as a family and to establish closer relationships with each other? During this holiday season, parents can't just go through the motions; we have to find ways to reinforce the connection with our children. And in today's world, complicated family circumstances and an increasing amount of distractions are going to get in the way of linking dads and kids.
So here are some useful tips for you to use. They might not all work for you, but if you pick up an idea or two and they add some fun or a little more genuine connection to your time with your children, then this is already a success.
Bake cookies or get a whole meal cooked together.
Go as a family to the local rescue mission, or a community of frontliners to serve meals or provide whatever assistance may be required.
Catch classic holiday films with popcorn, hot cocoa, or whatever the kids want.
Three words: board game nights! One parent said that there are competitive games and others that are cooperative. Find one that the family loves, and note that quality time with your children is the best prize".
Then a few more values that are more general than individual suggestions. Too nice not to pass along these are:
Only find the effort to be there with them and with them.
Don't treat family rituals like the responsibilities of 'check the box'. Less is better often. Quality over number.
For starters, you can check out Davao online grocery and delivery services that sell easy bundles and meal kits for a quick cooking time with the little ones. Malagos Homegrown Produce bundle promos include Malagos Signature bundles which are a sure fire hit among the kids. After all, who doesn’t love chocolates? Check them out at malagoshomegrownproduce.com today!

Meal Kits and Mothers - A Perfect Pair
Tumblr media
We’ve all been there: days when we can’t seem to figure out what to eat next, or nights when we’re too drained to even rummage through the pantry and whip up something decent for dinner. Needless to say, meal preparation takes not only too much of our time, but our energy as well. We might not realize it but doing this on a regular basis can be physically and mentally exhausting. For heads of the households who barely have the time to think about lunch or breakfast, you’re in luck because Davao meal kits are now widely available for home delivery. From the most basic salad kit to a sophisticated pomodoro pasta kit, these things are like your ultimate life saver nowadays. As a mother myself, I’d have to say that online meal kits and delivery service have really done so much to make my life easier.
My kids love them - meal kits are made specifically for those who have little to no knowledge in the kitchen. In other words, they can be very kid-friendly. All you really have to do is to follow the instructions that come with the packaging and voila! You’re in for a total restaurant-grade dining without even stepping a foot in CACS.
They’re the ultimate time-savers - Juggling my business management and household responsibilities can be extremely challenging especially now that movements within the city are quite limited. Not to mention the newly imposed curfew that I can’t seem to beat no matter what I do. With meal kits, I don’t have to worry about what my kids can eat whenever they need a quick snack. I just literally order up, stock up, and let my kids experiment their way in the kitchen.
I have trust issues - ever since this pandemic began, I became more cautious on the quality of food that we’re eating. Mothers know best, they say. And with that, I limit my kids from ordering up fast food or any other ready-made food for that matter. We simply need to be safe because we don’t know how these things are prepared in the kitchen! The thought of a saliva droplet on your burger is nerve-wracking! So I’d rather order up meal kits and cook them ourselves just to be sure. If you’re wondering where to order the best meal kits in Davao, look no further and check out malagoshomegrownproduce.com.

Dishes for the Rainy Days
As we enter the penultimate chapter of this year, we are greeted by the landfall of bagyong rolly as if 2020 couldn’t get any more challenging. Now, it seems like we are in for the final test of Jumanji wherein we need to survive this month before we can go on celebrating the holidays with our loved ones. Now that the rainy season has officially begun, it’s best to be more wary of the diseases and sicknesses that come with it. We also need to be slightly more mindful of the food we eat, and make sure that we’re getting enough minerals and nutrients that our body needs. So today, we’ve rounded up some of the best dishes that you and your family can enjoy for a savory and healthy meal together.
Nilagang baka - who doesn’t think of a steaming hot nilagang baka enjoyed on a rainy day? The inviting smell of freshly cooked stewed beef is just so irresistible. Sip on a warm soup to make your day better and a little cozier.
Sinigang na baboy - another classic Filipino dish, sinigang na baboy offers the right amount of savor and sourness to spice up your day! Definitely one of the favorite comfort foods of pinoys.
Chopseuy - now that we’re at it, get your dose of greens and leafies with this classic stir fried goodness. Chop Suey is a stir-fried vegetable dish that is cooked with meats such as chicken and pork. Shrimp and seafood can also be added. There are a lot of chop seuy versions that you can try like pork, squidball, scallop or our top favorite - the one with quail eggs.
Pinakbet - Pinakbet or Pakbet is a Filipino vegetable dish that is flavorful as it is colorful. A medley of local vegetables like squash, eggplant, okra, yard-long beans, and bitter melon. Pork, shrimp paste, and tomatoes are used to give it its distinctive taste.
Ginisang Repolyo -Ginisang Repolyo recipe is a no-nonsense recipe which involves sauteeing all of the ingredients. If one wants to have a tasty meal without having the time to do so, then cooking Ginisang Repolyo is the perfect recipe for all busy people out there. Its ingredients include cabbage (can be napa cabbage), bell peppers, carrots, and even meat such as chicken, pork or beef.

Pizzas At Home with Malagos
Tumblr media
Ever since the pandemic began, it was a rollercoaster ride for me. For the first few weeks, I’ve been preoccupied with all the adjustments needed to be done at home. I and my husband used to work at a private business here in Davao. But when Davao City was declared on lockdown, we had to adjust to a work-from-home arrangement. It was good news if you’d look at it, because that meant we would have ample time to look after the kids. But as days passed, it got really challenging because we wouldn’t have enough time to go to the grocery or supermarket. Much harder during Sundays when no one was allowed to go out. Luckily, we got a plan.
We used to not believe in the idea of purchasing everything online. For us, we were after the quality of the products and so we had to physically touch and examine the food we are buying before we actually make a purchase. But with the current circumstances, we had to learn to subscribe to online shopping platforms and DIY kits instead of going to high traffic stores and risk ourselves of exposure. That’s where we came across a davao online grocery and delivery store, Malagos Homegrown Produce.
The Malagos brand has been familiar to both of us ever since we were kids. We know how they keep their standards high and their products at a premium level. So it was not really hard for us to be convinced that they will deliver. And when they say they will, they really do. One of the favorites of my family so far is their pizza meal kit for these 3 reasons - easy, flavorful, and practical. Prepping the kit is easy as 123. The instructions are clear and even the kids themselves didn’t have a hard time understanding them. Next is the practical side. I’d say this would be our family’s go-to meal whenever we’re too busy to whip up anything in the kitchen. Finally, I just love the taste of the Malagos cheese in it. Truly, it’s the best pizza in davao you can have at home. Check out their other products and meal kit offers at malagoshomegrownpoduce.com.

Strengthening the Kids’ Immune System
Tumblr media
So your toddler doesn’t want to eat dinner again because you’ve served a beef with broccoli dish, paired with a slice of orange. You’ve already snuck pureed veggies into the porridge, made the funniest faces with food served and even told all the disney stories to tell with food as props. But still nothing has worked so far. They just hate vegetables, don’t they? Today, we’re sharing the reasons kids hate veggies they call “trees of doom” and how to address them so they will see the importance of eating greens and fruits.
“It is common for children to be fussy about their food and there may be several possible reasons for this,” says Ms Ong Jia Xin, Dietitian, Department of Nutrition & Dietetics, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH), a member of the SingHealth group. A term called “Food Neophobia” or fear of unknown or new foods reaches its peak between the ages of two to six years old. Children also like sweeter tasting food varieties and therefore find some veggies bland and unpalatable. This then results in their constant refusal of greens, or eat only a limited variety. With this, parents resort to different ways just to get their child to eat them. But this may in fact worsen the problem because meal times might seem stressful and unhappy for the child and parents too. Why is it important for kids to get the daily recommended servings of fruits and veggies? For starters, they are high in vitamins, minerals and fiber. There is a rainbow of colors you can choose from - they provide rich source of antioxidants instead of just giving them sweet treats and fast foods, the vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables provide the following benefits:
Promote good health and protect against disease, both now and in the future.
To ensure the child’s healthy growth and development.
Strengthen a child’s immune system and help fight illnesses. There is strong evidence to show that the nutrients found in fruits and vegetables can prevent chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases.
The high-fibre content can aid in the proper function of the digestive system and prevent constipation.
For your quality source of online fresh and vegetable store delivery, check out malagoshomegrownproduce.com. Just search where to buy online grocery in Davao and you’ll easily find them. Stay home and shop from online groceries as you strengthen your kids’ immune system!

When the Malagos Homegrown Produce launched their produce bundle line this week, one thing came to my mind: this deserves our full support and patronage. We all know the Malagos brand to be fully supportive of the local farmers. They’ve been an advocate of everything local since day one. Their resort which we’ve all grown up with has shown it to us countless times. Their products are also a reflection of this. If there’s one thing they’ve been pushing for as a brand, it’s the farm to table element that has always been present in their brand. So why choose homegrown produce? In fact, why choose homegrown? Keep reading to know why.
It’s a practical sulit deal that is definitely foolproof. Imagine getting top quality veggies, world-class signature products, and artisanal meals for a discounted amount. Sure there are many budding local shops in the area, but not everyone has that specific level of quality they can pride themselves with.
Supporting homegrown means supporting their employees and farmers. If we choose homegrown, we allow these people to live a sustainable life despite the pandemic. Not only are we doing much for our families by providing them quality food, but we’re also doing our part in the community and in the local economy.
The deals are practical on all levels - it helps you save time, money, and avoid too much food waste because of the perfectly proportioned products that you’re getting. If you’re a busy person and have no time to prepare food, these bundles are a life-saver. You won’t have to spend hours in the kitchen or think about where to buy the next ingredient because the bundles already have it all for you.
It’s the initiatives of shops like Malagos that gives us sustainable economic growth. In turn, we need to support and continue patronizing these shops as part of our duty to ourselves and to our community. We can buy a small bundle and it can go a long way. We did not only save time, money and avoid waste, but we have also helped farmers who play an important role in the economy. University Sundays
Tumblr media
When the news broke out that I won’t be leaving for Manila to attend my university of choice, I felt a mix of relief and frustration. I mean, I applied for this university a year ago with grand hopes of actually being an independent freshman, meeting new people from different parts of the archipelago, and going outside my comfort zone. I’ve been an indoor girl for the longest time and I’ve always been lucky enough to have such hands-on parents. The thought of going away for college seemed like a foreign idea for me before, but it was something I was really excited about because finally I will get the chance to get to know myself more. But of course, because of the Pandemic, everything is now put on hold. We started our classes earlier last month, and it was really something new for me to be doing all these things online. It’s very stressful on certain days when the internet is not cooperating and I find myself all so suddenly logged out of Google classrooms. The experience by far is a little funny and awkward especially when we’re in our PE class, and suddenly one of my classmates freezes due to a poor connection. A totally new way of learning, but I certainly hope this doesn’t go on for long. Nothing really compares to the physical interaction and the attention span you develop in a closed door classroom when all you can hear and see is the professor blabbing about calculus or Plato. It’s even stranger for me to be experiencing this kind of stress level as early as now.  That’s why I make sure that I spend my Sundays taking care of my physical and mental health. I do a digital detox on this day and just spend time eating the food I like. One of my favorite go-to meals now are the Malagos meal kits. They’re all so delicious and packed with the nutrients I need to survive Mondays. I also do a little bit of gardening. I wasn’t really interested at first, but my best friend encouraged me to try it out because it has some healing benefits. True enough, I’m now on the fourth plant I bought still from Malagos. Not many people know it but college can be so stressful. It’s a far more challenging time than senior high, and to think I’m only in my first month as a freshman! If you’re looking for ways to clear your mind and take care of your mental health, try cooking and gardening. You can get your easy DIY meal kits for a start from malagoshomegrownproduce.com, a Davao online grocery and delivery service that offers meal kits and indoor plants.
