This great clip shows an old dream: after receiving a forced complete head-shave put to work as a convict on the chain-gang in a classic striped prison uniform with your inmate-number printed in big digits on your left chest and heavy leg-irons riveted on your ankles, digging ditches from sunrise till sunset.

Who else harbors this fantasy?

Are there any blueprints/schematics of the hanging harness available (preferably of good quality)? I am considering building a replica of it for educational purposes.

Hobbled by leg irons, cuffs and belly chains, these orange-clad criminals are loaded into the back of a transport van. As you can see the rear cage is very small and almost completely dark. Their feet must get sweaty in those cheap sandals and, with several men in such cramped confinement, it must get quite smelly on the ride.

The wide-eyed expression from the guy on the left tells me he’s not looking forward to it.

“Too Many” Chain Gang Movies? NEVER!! For the survival of our society, we must have MORE CHAIN GANG MOVIES!!’

This is a followup to an earlier post of mine: “BRING BACK CHAIN GANGS!!!. A few days ago, “male-us-prison-experience” and “inm851” had wondered what movie the pics from that post were from. (And just to refresh your memory, in case a few of you might find some of these pics of interest:

Billy: a piece of “fresh meat” chaingang scum. Defiant, and arguing with the guards when he should be busting rocks. As you can tell by his sullen expression in the picture below, Billy has been having trouble fully accepting his new status as a SLAVE LABORER in chains, subject at any time to beatings with the whip.

(Billy’s resentment of his forced servitude (SLAVERY) on the chain gang is actually kinda understandable — since he is COMPLETELY INNOCENT! Billy had actually broken no laws at all! - except for “vagrancy”: and just because he was a drifter, new in town, who hadn’t got a job yet!! For this he had been quickly convicted, and sentenced to eight years “at hard labor” (slavery) on the county’s brutal chain gang! (And it didn’t help Billy’s situation that from the moment the sadistic, closet-case judge had seen Billy’s strong young body standing before him in chains in the courtroom, he instantly decided the handsome drifter would be suitable for hard labor - and for brutal whippings!)

Anyway, for arguing with the guards this day, Billy is dragged -again - to “The Box” for an attitude adjustment. As always, he is collared and leashed, but this time he makes no protest. Tears start to form in his eyes as he feels the leather placed around his neck……because is finally beginning to appreciate the reality that arguing is pointless since no one cares anything about what he has to say; and that he is, legally, nothing but a work beast……..who can be chained and collared like any other beast.

As the guard looks at the filthy, leashed, handsome young man, he smiles thinking of the hours of suffering that lay ahead for him. And as Billy sees the smile on the guard’s face , he says with a trembling voice “How can you do this to me? Haven’t you got any mercy? You know I’m innocent!!l” All the guards laughed, then slammed the door in Billy’s tear- streaked face.

Hours later, when the door is opened, the guard in the left gets an instant hard on seeing the hell the sweat-soaked, tear-streaked convict had obviously endured.

BUTCH: “Don’t worry Billy, I’ll protect you from now on……..if you agree to be my cell-block bitch”

BILLY: “Fuck that! It’ll be a cold day in hell before I……………….Oh, what the hell. Ok. Sir”

The next week, as the tearful Billy is enduring yet another completely undeserved flogging, inflicted just for the amusement of the sadistic guards, Butch is good to his word: “Bossman, whip me instead! Billy agreed to be my cellblock bitch to get my protection”. BOSSMAN “Ok Butch, but you’re getting it naked. Strip!” Then the guard winked at Billy: “Looks like you got a good Daddy, bitch boy” (then blew the crying young convict a kiss).

Once Billy was untied, and Butch strung up to be flogged in his place, he calls over his shoulder to Billy: “No big deal bitchboy……I actually love getting flogged. And with the hardon this gives me, I’m going to ass-rape you for hours”. The guards roar with laughter. The humiliated Billy leans over and vomits.

Although Butch was a overall good protector / “Daddy” for Billy in the following years of Billy’s endless, miserable slave labor; nevertheless Butch periodically schemed with the guards for he and Billy to be tortured together in the chain gang yard - even though neither he or Billy had broken none of the camp rules! Why? Because Butch was a masochist and loved to be whipped……but he was also a sadistic bastard who enjoyed seeing the tears of Billy as he was tortured in bondage. And Butch especially enjoyed Billy’s screams mingling with his as they echoed across the entirety of the isolated, muddy, urine-soaked hellhole that was the chain-gang compound. But Billy realized that overall his “arrangement” as Butch’s exclusive bitch was still pretty good: at least he was only getting ass-raped by one convict, not the entire chain gang!

ANYWAY……BACK TO THE REASON for this post: “male-us-prison-experience” and “inm851” had wondered what movie the pics from that post were from. It’s Hell’s Highway, from 1932. Here are some of the posters:

There are several versions because……

…….the studio (RKO) was giving a big publicity push for it………

……..because RKO was going to release this chain gang movie about 2 months before Warner Brothers released “I Am A Fugitive From a Chain Gang”. RKO wanted to make sure they got the audience first, in case people only wanted to see one chain gang movie. Two chain gang movies in such a short period might, they thought, be too many too keep people interested in the topic.

However, to ME that reasoning makes no sense at all:  why WOULDN’T the public want to see as many chain gang movies as possible?  WHO could possibly be satisfied with just one?!  And how better can the public learn about  the hellish cruelty that strong, handsome young men endure once they have been convicted (legally ENSLAVED), and sentenced to repay their debt to society through hard labor - and in an isolated hellhole prison camp of back-breaking labor, sweat, torture, and homoerotic tension. 

And to “educate” our public - and especially our young men- it must be movies. Newspapers and short internet stories are not good enough: These headlines may certainly catch the eye:

But don’t you agree that the public will learn MORE about the living hell these brawny convict studs suffer daily, after seeing TWO SOLID HOURS of their MISERY and HUMILIATION in a movie, than from looking at some newspaper article for a few minutes?

And if you’re trying to influence rowdy, brawny young redneck men; white trash men; and drifters (the groups always providing prime beef to serve as slave laborers on chain gangs) to stay on the straight and narrow, and obey the law, theoretically this headline below might influence them:

But how many of these young redneck and white trash studs read a reputable mainstream paper (if they can read at all)? Much better to SHOW them in a movie. And this promotion of “Hell’s Highway” below (appropriately placed in a trashy movie magazine aimed at young, dumb-as- a-plank men) shows that the movie promoters had common sense about how to influence young, legally at-risk men:

They’ll see the movie, and after two hours will get the socially- valuable message of what is in store for them if they become law-breaking scumbags: They will be legally ENSLAVED by a corrupt system that cares nothing about them, but needs a supply of cheap forced labor.

They will serve as filth- encrusted work beasts for the state, chained and sweating half-naked in the broiling sun.

Supervised in their servitude by closet-case sadists with whips - who chose to work as chain gang guards specifically so they could have free reign to brutally torture, psychologically torment, and humiliate the strong, handsome men who are now STATE-OWNED LABOR SLAVES!

Ladeled slop onto rusty plates three meals a day. Brutal nightly floggings.

Then chained up in sheds for the night the animals they are:

The harsh warnings of chain gang movies keep men out of trouble! Let me know if you agree: For the good of our nation, our society desperately needs MORE CHAIN GANG MOVIES!!’

"Can't say I care who your daddy is. Right now you are #1358, a convict sentenced to life."

"My dad said I would barely be here long enough to walk through the gate and he would have me out of here."

"Well #1358, your daddy was wrong! Guard! Will you take this convict to get his processing finished."

"No. Please! Please! My daddy will be here. Please.........."

"Face forward convict. Turn to your left."

"This is ridiculous!"

"Ok, get your ass to the barber shop!"

One year and 52 head shaves later, #1358's daddy still hadn't even visited him!

ALL INMATES MUST FACE THE WALL WITHIN THE ELEVATOR

That's what the identical text on the three pieces of paper is teling the three rather young prisoners in their red-and-white striped jumpsuit uniform in Adams County Jail in Colorado, backed by two guards. A wide belt around their waist keeps their handcuffs in place.

According to the pics in its annual report, this jail uses blue-and-white and yellow-and-white striped uniforms for its inmates too.

Face to the wall: the same is standard when prisoners are getting to be shackled outside their cell, as this second pic shows clearly.

Great pic ! I especially like that use of blackboxes in a stacked position, added to those great orange jumpsuits. Pics showing more inmates together shackled this way are rather seldom. I can now can offer only this one, of two guys waiting black-boxed in front of their (?) cells:

Inmates dressed in stripes and orange sandals kneel to present their ankles for shackling. Every prisoner in the United States experiences this humiliating ritual. They are chained whenever they leave for court, medical treatment, another facility, or even when moving from one side of the building to another.

As the chain rattles and tugs on the inmate’s ankles, forcing his step to shorten, he becomes totally aware of his inmate status and loss of freedom.

TWO TEENAGERS IN AN ADULT PRISON

SCDC Inmate: 20 years old, freshly caged...

Now spends his days giving PowerPoint presentations on how being a cocky little smartass landed him behind bars.

Promises to be a good boy from now on....

This is really great clip! Two teens arriving for the first time a real adult prison, showing their embarrassment and their intimidation by the new environment of concrete and steel in which they will spend the coming years. Have they just been sentenced rather recently and then be taken away in prison uniform and put in full restraints?

What where their feelings when they after arrival in jail in their new prison uniforms for the first time were confronted with those guards carrying such a huge amount of solid handcuffs, heavy leg-irons, big padlocks and permanently clanking chains with them during intake?

How did they both feel when they were handcuffed for the first time?

When the shackle of the padlock of their belly chain clicked shut?

And moreover when they got their heavy leg-irons applied after that?

When they had to walk in full restraints to their cells for the first time?

And did they soon after that have started their shackled trip from temporary county jail to their final prison in a special van like this?

Both teens of the clip are already completely standardized in appearance according to the norm and transformed into perfectly uniform inmates, only distinguishable by their identification number. As it should be, their head s are already completely shaved, and they are clad in an orange prison jumpsuit, with leg-irons around the ankles and a belly-chain around the waist, the associated hand-cuffs naturally secured with a black box during transport.

That black box is also arranged in the most restrictive, vertical position, with the hands above each other, parallel to the chest pointing in opposite directions. The alternative - horizontal, with the wrists at the same height next to each other, the fingers pointing forward, as in this photo - offers a cuffed person more room to play for the hands, even enabling him to play with the padlock in between, that secures the whole construction..

It is only a pity that the clip just shows how they are unshackled, not how they are shackled, how belly-chain and blackbox are locked on.

And that they are already shaved at the start, and that it doesn't show the shaving and thus their transformation from individual guys into prisoners itself. Like in this photo series:

Zachary walked into the Oklahoma Department Corrections as a smart ass.

These are some "teaser" photos for a new event and role play space in Illinois.

The space is very different from FCJ and HCI. It will work in concert with those two spaces to provide yet another jail / prison experience.
