Franks base lore paints him as inherently manipulative and yeah- he certainly knows how to “work” people- but looking at the comic closer shows that basically everything Morrison does has exposed roots as being a sort of trauma response from his long term circumstances.

Frank Morrison has been bounced home to home since he was 6 years old, now 19 I can assure you not all his home placements have been pleasant as we are outright shown in the comic and is implied in his every action and the bios of skins. He has never had a stable family unit and as been put on offense most of his life by being on the receiving end physical violence most of his adolescence and potentially even now in his current Ormond home with Clive Andrews being a drunken bastard with a temper.

This doesn’t ring to me as manipulative, it rings as desperate. He preaches that the legion don’t need anyone outside of one another, to not trust anyone but them, that they work as a unit and nothing more because no one will understand them the way they will each other.

Frank craves a reliable group to call home. Now that he’s made one he claws at it to keep it. Pushes these people he may normally think to protect and defend by whatever means to act in ways that could ruin them if caught to keep Julie happy, as she’s the one who truly craves violence, not so much him.

Shared in the comic and the tome, Frank acts on instinct. In the tome it’s for Julie, in the comic it’s not just about her, it’s about Joey, it’s about Susie, about not getting caught- getting caught will ruin it all, they will be pulled apart by the systems in place to punish them for their crimes. Having dealt with dealing out self defense many times in his youth with those meant to protect him….

He stabs the guy.

And then there’s no going back.

He’s desensitized by his poorly dealt hand, his survival through this life forged in force and desperation, the legion is the closest he will ever find to family. That’s why he won’t ever let them go. And that’s why I can never hate him.

if the mods (the government) didn't nerf kagari to the ground (literally BREAK her) would she be able to beat tsuchiya into the dirt as he deserves

Even after Kagari’s nerfs and debuffs she still manages to be rather effective in common sparring with Matt, it was her only form of entertainment in confinement and part of the reason they were even willing to let her walk- if she’s buddying up to an Aqua admin she’s been beaten into submission pretty well.

The thing that breaks Kagari’s competitive viability is the whole reprogramming thing the league managed with her, she’s not all there anymore, there is no more violence behind her eyes and that makes her basically unrecognizable.

She was the head of recon, the brains of combat, and the iron fist to complement Tabitha’s engineering skills. Maxie watched her melt from a smart girl to a young woman who doesn’t see pain the way she used to, didn’t have the self preservation to keep herself from picking fights she couldn’t win.

She could probably manage this battle, it’s just a matter of circumstance. If it’s on the clock she can keep her head on straight, if it’s a crime of passion she’ll stumble.

One of my favorite things in the legion comic is its visual tells.

As example, this is the entity motif in the joeys dreams. Keep the red dots and black in mind.

This is Frank, in Julie’s dream. And at first it looks like the entity.

Only for it to reveal on the next page flip it’s Julie. JULIE. And in franks dream section in volume one he is the only person to not have any reaction to the entities influence over his dreamscape, he wakes up and just forgets it happened. Julie is the only member of the legion to ENJOY her dream.

The entity can’t reach Frank, but it can get its grasp firm on Julie…and Julie has a firm grasp on Frank. Her influence makes her a daringly choice for the entities playbook of recruitment.

I’ve heard people say the comic is a separate canon from the game and ?????

The only part of the comic that strays from the game lore is the beginning and that’s probably just for time sake, they only had 4 volumes to work with they couldn’t spend the entire first half of volume one on Julie and Frank being at the diner. They ramp up faster so they can get to the new material.

The way I put the lore is: base lore > comic > tome, anything mentioned in the comic can overwrite base lore, and anything in the tome can overwrite the comic.

And now I’ve spoken too long and have to make A TOTALLY DIFFERENT POST TO TALK ABOUT THE ORIGINAL THING I WANTED TO SAY.

Every time I play legion, I always look to his hip in the waiting lobby, expecting to see my charms. It always takes me like a solid 5 seconds to remember they're on my hooks, not my belt.

C'mon, that'd be so fun if Legion would be able to let them hang on their belt like a survivor!

He’s just gonna storm into her office. Slam his hands on the desk, rather he’s here because Brendan told me about her or someone else like May (surely not his wife. They’re basically just roommates.)

Norman: where’s my son.

Courtney: why…would I know that…? He is…yours. Not mine.

Norman: but I hear your keeping a pretty close eye on the boy so you tell me?

Courtney will, not at all catching his tone- open her desk drawer and pull out a notebook of findings that log the boys routine from the last several weeks.

Courtney: If you need me to help you find…your son…that’s kind of pathetic and…says a lot about you…

He will proceed to jump over the desk try to fight her. I think they might actually be evenly matched? Considering her history of sparring with Matt and Zinnia and his gym theme. Probably ends in a tie considering this is her place of work which leaves him kinda out numbered.

i have no organizational skills. 3am (by the time im finishing this: 4am). i am jane real life. courtney.

save for very typical room things, a laptop, a banner, and the tm for dark pulse, it's easy to see: courtney's room is very empty.

we know this is courtney's room because the laptop contains many images of maxie. many maxies is a telltale sign of courtney cacophony.

technically, there is an easy way to explain why this is the case: when a place is not as important as others, the game designers will not focus on that thing. some describe it as "gamefreak lazy as shit 😭😭😭" they are probably right.

but i will attach meaning. i am jane from real life. common belief is only belief: i can do anything. i am god. i am jane from real life, and with what we know about courtney, the empty room makes perfect sense.

on a surface level, you can attach the room with courtney's devotion and obssession. the lack of anything in this room can imply a lack of material attatchment. this can mean many things, (foreshadowing is a literary d-) but it can be interpreted in a way that communicates that courtney's obssessions with the things that fascinate her run deep enough to make her disconnect with everything else around her. an unstoppable force that tears through reality itself, screaming "nothing to me matters when you are in my mind."

you can also kind of interpet it as like. a kind of way to describe her kind of , "less-is-more, direct, yet mysterious" character in an abstract sense or something. idk. does that even make sense?

but we can go much deeper i think. if you're as absolutely off the wall as i am when it comes to intepreting anything, i think the empty room can say a lot about how courtney's own upbringing could've been like.

the lack of anything at all can imply that courtney is very used to an environment where she wasn't able to have (or just didn't have access to) much in her childhood. that scarcity was basically the norm and that she continues to perpetuate this norm because she doesnt really know what to do.

one thing that really struck me personally was how very neatly everything's placed. perfect, virtually untouched. that says a lot to me. personally, i like to think she could've had parents on the stricter side that emphasized neatness and other such things. strict parents can also kind of explain why she doesnt have much too, as stricter parents tend to kind of hold things off from their kids for one reason or another, along with other non-room things like her intelligence.

... or maybe the emptiness and tidiness is something more simple like "courtney is a minimalist" or "courtney is a neat freak." idk man do whatever with her.

but the room is fascinating. little things like this can say a lot about a character, you know. and little things like this fascinate me greatly. like dude. oh my god.

When it came to how I wrote Kagari (trade off, this is turning into Courtney trivia trade) I actually gave her the other admin room because the file on the desk was Tabitha’s admin approval paperwork and i couldn’t understand why he’d keep that laying around if Courtney had to approve him due to her long term position in team magma

Her desk is messy much like her mind, cluttered like her busy schedule.

Courtney vs Courtney, one is aggressive vacuuming and the other is throwing balled up paper at the other so they’ll shut the damn thing off.
