Journal Entry 4 | The Day Before the Competition

• •

Well remember when I impulsively bought Apache? I decided to travel with him to Firgrove! There is a small cross-country event going on and it’s a beginners/advanced course. I decided to sign him up for the beginners course due to the fact I haven’t gotten to do much with him other than the day I bought him!

Though that’s after today, today I woke up the sun was shining it was a gorgeous day with just a slight breeze. I cooked me some breakfast at the place I was staying at. Funny enough the house had an outdoor paddock close, just perfect enough for me to store Apache! He enjoyed it out there this morning, I could see him through my little kitchen window. Though when I finished eating I got the rest of my gear and his and went to get him ready.

Our first stop was to visit the rangers! Kate and Sarah were just giving me a rundown of the beginner course because they entered their mustangs into the little show too! After collecting my information and a bit of small talk back and forth we decided to hit the trail!

It was a shortish track and there was approximately 11 jumps on the course. I got my bearings together after a while and did a couple jumps with Apache, there was one part of the course that had a beautiful straight away that I let him hand gallop on!

But as the sun began to set I lead him back to his paddock, I was content with how well he did and especially how well he listened to my cues. This boy has great potential!

Whenever we arrived back I got him ready for the paddock and brushed him down to make sure no access dirt was left on him from the trail so he would be comfortable overnight.

Though just because Apaches adventure was over for the day doesn’t mean mine wasn’t! I headed to the cafe in town and met another competitor, Lila, she was sweet she was from New Hillcrest. A very kind girl to sit and chat with about tomorrows competition.

Though as the night sky began to rise I found myself wandering back to the house for a good nights rest.

Journal Entry 3 | Sold! |

• •

Today was a special day! I got the chance to travel all the way to Golden Hills Stable, and meet the one and only Silver Bullet also known as Apache! He’s a very easy going gelding that I’ve gotten the chance in test riding today! The drive to GHS was a breeze theres always a gorgeous view.

After arriving I was introduced to Apaches owner, Carin. She showed me where he was in the stables and let me tack him up. I love getting the chance to tack up a horse before I buy it just to see if there’s any casualties.

He did great as I racked him up! I was informed before even thinking about buying Apache that he was well known for cross-country as well as a bit of show jumping. Thankfully that’s what I was in market for!

I warmed up Apache in the arena prior to Carin getting some of the cross country jumps and show jumps setup in the arena for us.

Apache was a great companion so far in the arena warming up, he was very attentive and does well to verbal commands less than leg commands which I do appreciate and was hoping for. I seemed to have a pretty nice bond with him right off the start, now I don’t know if he’s just a friendly gelding or maybe just has really taken a like to me!

Anywho after Carin got the jumps set up, I lined him up for jumps and he perfectly soared over them. The only thing I could even come close to worrying about was his gait changes. But not to worry that can be an easy thing to work on with him.

After a few jumps here and there and a trail ride before putting him up… I sat down and talked to Carin. His price was a bit high for my first concern. The other issue I had was transport considering I didn’t bring my trailer in all honesty thinking I wasn’t gonna bring him home due to the price that he was. Though after a few haggling Carin gave into my more reasonable price and even took him in a trailer for me to his new home in RedWoods.

Journal Entry 2 | Lessons |

• •

I set out today to join a few friends in a jumping lesson with Arthur. Our instructor was Lily on her newest trainee Juniper, their the two first photos of a horse and rider! Their a great pair, our next two who joined us in the event was Yuka on Moon! They were a very photogenic two. Sadly I only got one shot of Feya and Steel! The two worked so well together, practically inseparable. Our last two sets of photos of the team was Bailey and Trueman! Very cute pair, Trueman seemed to be giving Bailey a run for her money this lesson! Of course the last photos are me and Arthur!

Now that you know who everyone is I can talk a bit on todays lesson! Everyone did great today was an advanced lesson, pretty simple to get through I don’t think anyone had any issues at all. After the lesson everyone seemed rather happy with how it went. Honestly everyone did great and worked so well with their horses! Quite a team they all are!

Though after the lesson and after everyone went their separate ways, I rode Arthur to the cafe in Firgrove, we hadn’t been on a trail ride in quite some time and he really seemed to enjoy it! I had put my AirPods in and listened to some smooth jazz whilst riding in the nice beginning of spring air.

Photography Journal Entry 1

• •

Today was a gorgeous day for me and Blood Moneys professional photos to get taken! He’s been one of my best geldings I mostly used for jumping, cross country as well as even western reining and cow cutting. Blood Money was more well known for their western sports. You should see them in the Jorvik Gazette from time to time winning those shows! Though I know most people don’t read the paper anymore.. oh well! I hope you enjoy the photos that were taken. Blood Money is such a photogenic gelding I can’t get over it!

Today after the photo shoot was over with me and Blood Money, also known as Arthur Morgan or just Arthur, we went on a short trail ride as well as a small cross country course I suppose you could call it!

After so long the time spent in the woods was having to come to an end. As the stars began to shine and the moon crept over the trees I had taken care of Arthur and got him put back out in the pasture before going inside and cooking garlic and sage lamb with a side of Parmesan asparagus. The night had came to a perfect end, I also decided to watch an old Cowboy documentary while sipping on a glass of red wine and settling in for the night. Who knows what tomorrow might hold.
