"Space Dementia is the term NASA Used for what happens if you’re left out in space for a long time, because if you truly conceptualise the situation of being there and looking back at Earth, it can drive you mad, The song’s about a person who’s quite important in my life and who gives me space dementia when I look at them. It’s about being intensely engrossed so that you become obsessive and almost nasty." - Matt Bellamy, on the definition of space dementia

“I found myself playing this paradiddle, that goes [imitates paradiddle] like that over and over again. And I started playing that on just two notes, constantly playing it, over and over again until I got to a point where extra notes were sort of finding their way in there, do you know what I mean? And it ended up building up to the point where I was playing five-note chords with each hand and playing these massive chords on the piano and it was sounding really fucking heavy, do you know what I mean? And a chord structure started to come out of that, and I was thinking, ‘This could be something.’ It’s about hope, about trying to find the strength to get through any given situation.” — Matthew Bellamy, regarding the Muse song Butterflies and Hurricanes

"Me and Dom bleached our hair in Norway because everyone had white hair and we thought it looked cool. I looked like a dick, but I found that I didn’t give a toss, so after that I thought I’d try dyeing it blue. I’m just enjoying the fact that I really don’t care. I’ve lost the security that I used to have and in some ways that’s a good thing, in some ways it’s a bad thing. I’m enjoying the fact that I don’t need to have a fixed idea of myself. I can just change all the time". — Matthew Bellamy (Melody Maker, Oct 2000)

"What’s the worst thing you’ve ever eaten at a festival?" muse-quotes: Dom: ”A dirty schnitzel from Germany!” Chris: ”When you eat them, they come straight back out the other end.” Dom: ”Same size, same shape.” Matt: ”They’re about 12 inches long. They give you this tiny piece of bread to hold it in and then this huge hotdog the size of Chris’s ‘friend’. It makes you feel very dirty. You feel unclean.”

"We were looking for a high percussion sound for the end of the song `Space Dementia`. And we tried shakers, salt and pepper things, and even palm rubbing, but we ended up miking up Matt’s trouser zipper." —Dominic Howard

“I usually have my bass quite low and there’s one song where I [play] high on the fretboard, so the bass has to be higher up. What I usually do is put my leg on the drum riser and put the bass on my leg. But I had these new trousers on, and it was the first time I’d worn them onstage and as soon as I put my leg up, I realized the trousers were too small and I put a huge f***ing tear right across the arse. That was in front of about 1,400 people. ” — Chris Wolstenholme on his most embarassing mistakes.

“We have a special fan who has been to 100 gigs today. And at pretty much all of the gigs she had a poster saying ‘I wish you’d play a certain song’. This is for you. The song’s called Fury.” — Matthew Bellamy proving that he is the best human being on this planet.
