I’m tempted to write a fanfic rewriting tog, starting at Hof because I wouldn’t change much from the first two books.

It would include the following:

Aelin actually getting criticized and having consequences for her actions

Malide getting the epic love story they deserve

Sorcha lives! (My girl deserved better than to be killed off as a plot device)

Rowan and Aedion having a personality further than “Worships the ground Aelin walks upon”

Lorcan having an unrequited crush on Rowan

Yrene, Nesryn, and Sartaq showing up from the Southern Continent

Dorian being a raging bisexual

Chaol (platonically) staring at his hot prince’s ass

Adding depth to relationships (looking at you, Rowaelin and Lysaedion)

Justice for Kaltain

Asterin being the chaotic pansexual cousin we all need in our lives (i love her so much)

Yes this will be very gay

with all due respect, your post about books are political makes no sense in regards to sjm. she used the murder of breonna taylor to publicize her books. her family worked with the iof. the way she wrote the illyrians and their whole plot line is weirdly gross in how it parallels palestinians. like. be for real. she's a racist and most of her male characters are wildly misogynistic.

You’re right in the fact that SJM is not the most politically correct person, but many of her beloved characters have shown traits of being left leaning, if not fully leftist. We can always get into the topic of which of her characters are problematic in and of themselves, but that wasn’t the point of the post. I also wasn’t using SJM as the example, but the characters. I would’ve written “SJM would hate you for voting for trump.” We, as readers, have to be able to separate creator from creation (i. e. Harry Potter and the terf) or we can lose good content for the sake of hate. We can also get talk about how to ethically support content from bad creators without supports the creators themselves, but again another time. And you’re right most of her male characters are misogynistic (I’ll trash talk the inner circle all day everyday), but Rowan, one of the most beloved male characters, isn’t. Dorian, Sartaq, Azriel, Lucien, Ilias, the list goes on. Just because Cassian and Rhys and Aedion are stand out bad guys does not mean every male character written in her books is. Using SJMs characters as an example does not discredit my message. I used those characters because I am a Manon Blackbeak and some random other fandom content account. I would be happy to open this discussion including The Hunger Games, TLOU, Willow, Arcane or any other of the other fandoms I’m involved in. It doesn’t change the message. If you voted for or support Donald Trump, Ron Desantis, Elon Musk or any of the other trash republicans/conservatives, you don’t have a spot in the reading space. Especially ones leads by female/women/lgbtq+ or bipoc people. If you have any other statements to make to me about this hop in the pms I’d be glad to have discussion about it.

I’m going to say this with all the disrespect my body holds.

I have been in the book space for well over a decade, the SJM fandom for just about that time, so believe me when I say I mean what I’m about to type. If you are an American, or even someone abroad, and support Trump or the conservative push in anyway, you are not welcome here. If you are a part of the SJM fandom and support Trump (which yes means with a vote or just in general) you are not welcome here. The fmcs and the fcs that you love would hate you the same way I do. The mcs and book boyfriends that you love would hate you the same way I do. Books have and always will be political, that why people like Trump and Desantis and Hitler go after them and burn them. Those people prey on the ignorant and the unintelligent, and I fully believe yall are both. If you are upset by this post or the posts on booktok telling you, you have no place here then you know deep down you are wrong. And for everyone else who woke up devastated this morning, I’m sorry that we have to share this horrible reality, but I’m comforted in the fact that you are out there just as saddened by the turn our country has taken.

one of my favorite parts of the lunar chronicles has always been how batshit insane it is. just the the genuine unhingery. the main character kidnaps her love interest from his wedding. said love interest stabs his arranged bride (a murderous dictator) with scissors at the altar. cress and thorne stay at an inn in the middle of the desert, and while he’s fucking around gambling she gets kidnapped into an underground medical experimentation human trafficking ring and bought by her long lost father. there’s evil moon people. scarlet and wolf get it on in a boxcar after like two days of knowing each other. 4/9 of the main cast aren’t human. cinder crashes kai’s wedding (again), murders twenty people, and jumps off a ten story balcony into a lake. kai keeps cinder’s metal foot so he can stare at it and long after her while she’s a wanted fugitive. cress fangirls over and stalks her outlaw crush on the internet for years and then bags him when they meet. not one of them is over twenty or mentally sound btw. no other YA series is doing it like that. applause
