OK. Let’s talk abou Ogasawara islands.

Ogasawara islands are probably the most remote region of Japan. They are located about 1000km south of Tokyo. It takes 25 hours by ferry and there is no planes going there. 25 hours, can you believe it?!

But they are known to be a really beautiful Subtropical islands, Galapagos of Asia. And that’s where we are going in June.

Those islands had been under American occupation from 1945 to 1968, and this year is the 50th anniversary of their reversion to Japan. And on October, they are going to do big Festival and so to advertise that, they are doing pre-festival event and That’s where we come in.

Some of you might remember that Island Jazz band, Speak No Evil has appeared in MUSIC SHARE while ago. They are playing in that pre-fes. event and we have all that honor of taking 25-hour trip down to south and do the live streaming from that beautiful islands!

Yes! That’s what I call LIFE lol.

Anyway, our host Michiyo Honda and I are going. It’s going to be our very first streaming using mobile hotspot, not with good old lan cable so I am a bit nervy. But it’s going to be the most beautiful streaming so please look forward to that!

La Señas & Tokyo Shiokouji are coming to MS on 22/05/18

How are things? Doing alright? I trust you are well. And hope you enjoyed the last show with Moment Joon. Music was great. And I really liked his attitude and prospective toward the world he lives in.  “Fighting and provocation are different things” he said.  “Japanese aren’t used to debate. So I have to stir them up to get them on the ring. Then we can talk and understand each other”.  He may have been a stranger in Korea, the US, military service and in Japan and maybe that is why he continues to rap with provocative and controversial rlyc. To reach understanding over conflicts and collision.

OK. About MUSIC SHARE in May.

It will be the most over-populated episode in the history of MUSIC SHARE . 

There will be Michiyo Honda the host, me the switcher, the sound man and a few camera guys. There are a couple more people doing this and that and that’s us staff. Eight or nine people. 

Plus, we’ll have 22 guests! So there will be like 30 people in Red Bull Studio Tokyo! It’s a bloody madness.

Anyway, 22 people are made up by two groups. One is the gang of 15 young percussionists, La Señas. their energetic performance get you into a trance, their beat calls out to our ancient blood and make your body move! 

Sound like fun already, yeah? Just Don’t miss it. 

And to add a little bit of  melody, Tokyo Shiokouji, will come and support La Señas. Tokyo Shiokouji is a hot jazz band  like a fermented food. Their ingredients are : rhythm, chords and reputation. Then you add a bit of a man-power and you get minimal music with rich aroma. (quoted from their HP)

Moment Joon is Coming to MS!

Hi, there.

Just been so busy doing this and that, but now I finally found some to sit down and write MS for ES!

So, here is some info about MUSIC SHARE#70.

(It’s the 70th! Can’t believe we did MS 70 times for free. We must be saints or totally insane.)

Anyway, we are honoured to host Moment Joon this month. 

He is a rapper boin Seoil, Korea. Out of his passion to rap in Japanese, he got himself into University of Osaka to study, and of course to rap. He went back to Korea to serve military for two years, serve the time came back to Japan and released “Fight Club” which cause a stir in Japanese Hip Hop scene.

He has spent his life in Seoul, Los Angeles, Oska, and in military service, he believes in gender-free society and has a height of 159cm. All those things reflects in his liric, which should do for that is what rap stands for : Telling one’s story.

The next MUSIC SHARE is on 24th April, 20:00ish. We are so eager to find out what he has got to say.

MS#69 Ken Ishii is coming to MS on 3/20

Hi, there.

Enjoyed the last MS with Yordan Markov Bulgaria Quintet? We did. Quite immensely, actually. It’s wonderful having to watch awesome performance right in front of you. We just hope that we passed on the experience to you right and enjoyed as much.

OK. About the next MUSIC SHARE. 

We usually do it on every 4th Tuesdays but this time it’s the 3rd. The live stream takes place on the 20 the March. From 20:00 Japanese Time and we have such an honour hosting Japanese Tehno legend, Ken Ishii and the designer Yasunobu Yamashita, presenting their newly started project “KIYD”.

As Ken Ishii is a Japanese legendly techno DJ and Yasunobu Yamashita is the designer who did many of Ken Ishii’s art work,  “KIYD” is a collaboration of music and design, and as its first product, they will release an experimental tune “DUAL REALITY” with USB memory designed by Yamashita.

It may sound not so experimental but Ken Ishii departed from conventional Four-on-the-floor and explores new style of music in KIYD. The song “DUAL REALITY” is 10-minute long, for a start, it has eight version which are : three originals with 24bit／48kHz, 16bit／44.1kHz、320kbps／MP3, reversed edition, left output only, right output only, sound above 440Hz only, and sound below 440Hz only.

About February’s MUSIC SHARE. We are hosting “Yordan Markov Bulgaria Quintet”!!

In 2006, Yordan Markov, well-established gadulka player in Bulgaria, came to Japan and he jumped in and jammed with Yoshiaki Sato, an accordion player durling his show.

In 2015, they reunited after nine years and that was when the story began.

In 2016, A gajda (small bug pipe of a sort) player, Shinya Oono, a percussionist  Yosuke Watanabe from Scandinavian Music Band “Drakskip” and a jazz guitarist Takahiro Sawachika joined the gang and five of them started  “Yordan Markov Bulgaria Quintet”.

In 2017 July, they have released their first album “Iztok” and here is their live performance.

Their sound is ethnic, really well assembled and full of energy. If you watch it, you’ll know that you don’t get to see this on Japanese TV but only in MUSIC SHARE. 

So, please look forward to 02/27′s MS. It will be a fun night as well as an opportunity to meet new gener of music!

About the next guest.

When Michiyo Honda and I were driving by the coast line, from the stereo, we heard such a tender voice and somewhat nostalgic melody with a lot of sunshine in it. I’d say that was a perfect way to meet  Michael Kaneko's music.  

We just loved his stuff so much, Michiyo made a contact to Mr. Kaneko's agent and this whole thing came true!

Yes. We are hosting Michael Kaneko in January!

He's a singer, a songwriter and a guitarist, performed in major music festivals like Fuji Rock and Summer Sonic. He has written numbers of songs for TV ads as well so you might have heard his work. Well, all that is in Michael Kaneko’s HPso why don’t you check that out.

We are so excited to have him as our first guest in 2018. I guarantee his music will put smile on your face. This is something  you don’t want to miss. Remember the next Music Share starts at about 20:00 on Jan. the 23rd!

BETAPACK is Coming to MS on 12/26/17

OK. About the next MUSIC SHARE.

It`s going to be the last streaming of the year and it`ll be on the 26th of December. The 4th Tuesday as usual.

And the last guest of 2017 will be BETAPACK!

BETAPACK is a three-man unit, not only to create future sound of Tokyo, but to make the whole musical experience with the visuals powered by LED lights matching their music. 

So, in the next MUSIC SHARE, there will be lights and electronic music, ladies and gentlemen! 

The music used to be just sound, but over the last 30 years or so, music and visuals have gradually become  inseparable. MUSIC VIDEO, VJ, Projection Mapping, Kinect, there are all kinds of visual tools to expand sales or add more entertainment for musical experience. 

Introducing good music is what we are here for, but we have been thinking : maybe, adding more visual flavor to MUSIC SHARE might be more fun for viewers to watch. So we are hoping to learn from BETAPACK as well as to deliver their performance as it happens in RED BULL STUDIOS TOKYO.

ROTH BART BARON is Coming to MS!!

We had a sudden black out on our monitor a few minutes after we started streaming. I restart my PC and try to resume the streaming but OBS rejected. Then we had an internet failure.

I don’t know what caused what, but it was a messy night so far as streaming is concerned. Sorry if we let you down or anything.

Their HP is also in English, so there is pretty much everything. So here is one of MUSIC CLIP and a part of their biography.

- Biography - Masaya Mifune : Guitar / Vocal Tetsuya Nakahara : Drums / Chorus ROTH BART BARON is a indie rock band based in Tokyo, Japan. The band started in 2009, when Masaya (Ag/Vo) and Tetsuya (Dr) were in college. ROTH BART BATON’s music is influenced by various artists of different genres, modern rock acts and folk music in particular. Artists such as New Order, Bon Iver, Wilco, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and Neil Young are essential in building up their own styles.

Though they are based in Tokyo, they’ve done a tour in the states, Asia, recorded their album in Philadelphia and Montreal. It looks like ROTH BART BATON are heading to the world. And their music with such a vast scenic image is definitely a world-class.

The guest will be very mysterious unit ‘HOPI’.

Those of you who have watched MS’s 5th Anniv., thank you so much!

Seven BUNRAKU remixes  composed by seven musicians were all ready for you guys and we meant to Go LIve on 8/16! But we had a last-minute surprise caused by misunderstanding and stuff like that. It became just impossible to go public with those songs. 

It taught us how hard it is to work with people with different cultural background, in a very hard way. Sorry couldn’t let you hear the new songs. But, this project is not over yet. BUNRAKU people are eager to continue the project, the musicians are making necessarily adjustment and we are figuring out what will be the best way to bring those songs to the world. Please be patient with us. If any news about it, we will let you know.

FAKE EYES PRODUCTION has just released album “LET’S GO Heathrow”. Though they will perform DJ set, not Live set, but you might hear some tunes from their new album.  It is a mixture of very wide range of music, which only experienced musicians could manage to put together. And it’s really cool. I know it’s gonna be so much fun and am already looking forward to it.

Get Ready for MS’s 5th Anniversary!

How’s it going?

Enjoyed the last show with SHOKO?

It was superb watching her performance from few meters away. Hope you guys enjoyed as much as we did, and we hope that we’ve passed that experience as we saw it.  The archives are already up as usual, so those who haven’t seen it, do it.

OK. There are some announce to be made. That is : 

It’s been 5 years since we started MUSIC SHARE, and we are thinking about doing something SPECIAL!

And that “SOMETHING SPECIAL” is a collaboration with Japanese traditional art form, BUNRAKU. You might have seen it somewhere. It’s kind of a puppet play. A guy sings  a story and a puppet moves accordingly. We thought it’s rather fun to give musicians the sound of Bunraku, and see what they come up with, how they reconstruct the sound into up-to-date music form.

We picked the musicians who excelled in performance, originality, musical skills and, among of all, willingness to join this project and good personality (hahaha). So the participating musicians are :

The SAMOS Maika Loubté XXXSSS Tokyo Hatis Noit Omodaka (Live starts about 00:03:13) Mother Tereco  Ermhoi (Live starts about 00:26:05)

So there will be MS’s 5th Anniversary Special Program “BUNRAKU+” On 8/16 from 18:30 !  Get Ready to Watch the show!!

You will be able to watch actual Bunraku Performance, and watch The Samos, Maika Loubté, XXXSSS Tokyo, Mother Tereco and Ermhoi  playing their freshly made songs (Hatis Noit is in London and Omodaka is in the states to play). 

When the tradition and modern stuff work together, it tends to be so.....well, pretty lame. To be honest, we don’t really know how it will turn out. But Cool or lame, the musicians are superb. We have listened to their songs in progress and they are already sounding good while it’s incomplete. And you get to feel the sense of Japanese Culture.  Why not give it a try. We will be broadcasting from “Fresh!” as usual, and we are thinking about doing “Facebook Live”, too. So if you want to see it from FB, please follow MUSIC SHARE’S Facebook Page.

Not only 8/16, we are making a documentary of how those musicians are putting sounds together and collaborate with Bunraku. So we are going to places to places to shoot the musicians making music and doing interviews and things like that.

Plus,  Hikaru Iwakawa, a quena player, who appeared in MS while ago will do the recital, so we are going to go out and shoot it as our by-project  “Out of Studio”.

We are so busy (needless to say, not making money) so, we can’t do the usual MUSIC SHARE from Red Bull Studios Tokyo in July. We really wish we could, but like it’s said, everything has a limit. But if we finished editing, we will release the “Out of Studios” sometimes in July. In that case, we will see you then!

So, that’s about it.

We have ermhoi coming to MS!!

‘ermhoi’ is a solo unit by ERIN MORITA, a vocalist and a trumpet player, a  singer of Jazz Pop Band ‘Mr.Elephants’. She fuses the music she’s loved like Indie Rock, Electronica, Jazz, Ambient, and created her original sound : hybrid pop.

Released her first album ‘Junior Refugee’ in 2015.

Her music is viciously cool. I guess music video tells much more than the words I type. Why don’t you check it out.

I am writing this on 4/26, the day after MS’s streaming, still carrying the last night’s excitement given by the awesome performance by Mother Tereco, YET!

We are so excited about hosting her the next month, already!

It’s about time to announce the next guest’s info.

We are hosting a two-man electro unit, ‘Mother Tereco’ this month.

This will be their first appearance as a guest, but they have been in our show before as Maika Loubté’s support as some of you might recall.

Kimitoshi Sato   Ex-Open Reel Ensemble. Art School guraduate.

Takumi Namba  Music School graduate.

Mother Treco formed in 2015. 

Their Dance Tune created by electronic and organic sound with occasional acoustic instruments expresses new and meranchoric soundscape with the fluctuation that exists only there and then.

Has collaborated with many fashion events like Tokyo  Collection,  fashion brand “FORM ON WORDS” , Mito Art Museum, even with a dance company ‘Crewimbunny’.

Mother Tereco has also joined Maika Loubté’s latest album “Le Zip” As a mix engineer and live support.

I’ve been so caught up with work (which is good. Definitely better than not working at all, believe me) I couldn’t tell you anything about “Other Music Share”.

Music Share is a Web Music Program as well as a group that is trying to make a music network. Make many Music Share in different cities and towns, make it work as a network, and we are hoping that network will provide musicians more audiences, and provide music lovers wider choice of music.   

So if anyone wants to introduce cool musicians from their hometown, or maybe concerned about Japanese music scene being suffocated by commercialism or something, and wants to put up Music Share in their hometown, we are pretty eager to share the name “Music Share”.

So Music Share Shimonoseki has started and Music Share Chiba has put up  the second show. And Music Share Kyoto launches their show monthly. 

We may have Music Share Fukuoka, Fukushima, maybe Oosaka this year. And they share the same ideal and idea with us. So if you like us, Music Share Tokyo, please support other Music Share.

NEXT GUEST on 03/28

MUSIC SHARE for ENGLISH SPEAKERS

Hi, there!

The winter is slowly ending and you can sense the coming spring here and there.

So, what’s up?

Hope you guys enjoyed RIO and Bakurocho Band from the last month streaming.

We had a wonderful night watching a young ukulele geneious in front of us and one of the very few performances of Bakurocho Band by the current band members. 

I think, I wrote “Bakurocho Band have something important to announce durling MS” or something like that in the last MS for ES. And that was pretty much it. The drummer of the band is moving to Okayama and not sure if he comes back or not. So the band will take in new members, and also releasing a new album soon.

It is kind of sad to watch three of them play with the knowledge that you might never see them play together again. But that’s the life, I guess. we walk together and we get apart. That is why everything around you is, in a way, greatful.

OK. Enough with that shit.

Let me tell you a bit about the guest of this month!

We will have an honor to welcome Nao Kawamura as a guest.

It’s February and it’s cold. 

Hope you guys are doing OK. Not feeling miserable, at least.

So, what’s up? Enjoyed the last show?

I had such a fun doing switching and streaming durling ‘Speak No Evil’. It was great watching them play right in front of us. I hope we passed that experience to you like it happened in Red Bull Studios Tokyo.

Since we loved Speak No Evil so much, we are re-editing their show for youtube. It’ll sound better, have better quality in movie and will be more fun to watch. We are planning to uploaded shortly. So please look forward to it.

Bakurocho Band is coming to MS.

Bakurocho Band is coming to MS for the second time!!

“Bakurocho Band is a Japan-based trio band, which is aiming to explore the roots of music all over the world! What is the “our music” in this global world? Where are we heading to? To grab the answer for this question, we travel around and listen carefully for the local voice and sounds. Not just jazz or pops, our music is based on Japanese traditional folk, Asian, Romany, Arabian and African. This is the progressive form of the Japanese native music!”

MUSIC SHARE CHIBA OPENS ON 02/07!

MUSIC SHARE for ENGLISH SPEAKERS

MUSIC SHARE believes that, if you are musicians, you should be able to share music with audiences no matter where you live. And we’d love to help. So we are trying to open MS branches throughout the country to give musicians an access to music lovers around the globe. That is why we are trying to open many MS in many cities.

We have Kyoto streaming in monthly basis. Niigata and Shimonoseki is struggling. Fukushima and Fukuoka has started the preparation to open their MS.

And on 02/07 MS Chiba will open!!

Their first guests are Sax Player ‘WaKaNa’ and Violinist ‘Nanaco’.

Nanaco met Jazz when seventeen. Went to the states to explore herself as a musician, since then she has been traveling through Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa with her violin. 

WaKaNa also plays domestic and abroad. She is a star player of a pop instrument band “LUKA”. She participated Monstar Jazzy Hip Hop compilation “IN YA MELLOW TONE”. Joined the 20th anniversary live of an instrument maker, Cannonball as a Cannonball’s artist.

Hosts are Furukawa Shigeo and Mima Masayo.

It starts from 20:00 on 02/07 on ‘Fresh!’.
