Emotional Support Chickens: Gift Edition
5/5 completed
Made entirely with stash yarn
I didn't name them, since they're gifts, but in my head I call them Rustic, The Australorp, Blue Period, The Pigeon, and Purple.
They're pretty uniform and they all sit up on their own (Harold, my first attempt, does not).
Huzzah :)

Some knitting patterns are like pastry recipes* and some are more like soup recipes**.
Normally, I knit soup, but I’m knitting pastry at the moment and it is a different experience.
*follow these instructions exactly
**here is one way to make soup, but you can always just use this as a jumping off point and add whatever’s in your fridge and you will still get soup

I've had a hilarious interaction with a cashier lady at the yarn store today~
The premise is that I've thrifted several balls of mystery yarn about half a year ago, and since then I'm on a Royal Quest to figure out what's that yarn actually made from, as I've ran out of one colour pretty fast, hehe
So
My guess was that it's some kind of cotton/cotton blend, so I went to the biggest yarn store I could find to touch everything I can and compare it to my actual WIP, and after ~45 minutes of roaming I found what I thought to be an okay option, but of course I decided to ask for bits of advise before purchasing
The lady was eager to help and asked to see the WIP
IMMEDIATELY says it isn't cotton in any way 😅 My fabric is turning out stretchy - that means there is likely some sort of synthetic fiber, she also fiddled with the ends and said that they look kinda frizzy - which means there's likely some kind of wool in there...?
I was like 😃 omg how wrong could I be...
And THEN she said I should SET IT ON FIRE.
If it falls apart neatly - that's 100% wool
If it stinks of goat - that's likely alpaca (?¿?)
If it melts like a bitch - that's 100% acrylic (well she didn't say it THAT WAY, but y'know)
And if it burns nicely, but leaves a melted tip - it's a blend
I.... I love knitting, what at adventure lol

A little something I cast on this morning, restless fingers and busy days are a terrible combination!

Here we have the first charts of the Don't Panic Shawl by Nim Teasdale, worked in Hobbii Sultan Deluxe in Rainbow Jewel. Combining lace panels and beading to make a truly gorgeous lace shawl.
Tumblr media
I have a terrible obsession with long gradients, they're oh so deliciously tempting for crochet, and finding a shawl that can use the entire 1000 meters of the cake up is such a gift!

Today's tea: Godlike Zeal, my Pallegina blend. It's a strong black tea, a bit citrus-y.
Today's knit: The Autumn Delights Cowl is now blocking! Finishing it required grafting the last row together with the provisional cast on, which might be the longest stretch of grafting I've done? I mean, most of it is on sock toes so this was something else entirely, especially having to seam all around the circle. However I managed to finish it and soon this thing will be dry and wearable!

This took surprisingly long to finish but it is off the needles! Just in time for... summer...
The Tentacula Hat by Jenny Noto uses a really neat stitch that's pretty easy to memorize and creates this texture.
Knit in Malabrigo Rios in Azules (there's more green than is coming through in the photos).

remember that strawberry sweater I’ve been posting about? I turned it into a pattern! It’s available on Ravelry, or you could toss me $5 on ko-fi with a note and I’ll send the PDF to you directly!

Cascading Kittens - all finished blocking! It did end up longer than I expected but that worked out well as it's more of a tunic length and goes well with leggings. The sleeves blocked out wider than I'd like - hard to see in the selfie angle though, and wearing the sweater over a shirt makes that less of an issue, but if I knit another one I would pick up fewer stitches for the underarm or do some decreases in the rows right before the sleeve ribbing to give it a nicer shape. Anyway, enough nitpicking; overall I'm very happy with how it turned out!

Whoop whoop! Another one done!
I’ve been trying to finish one shawl a month. Technically was a day late on this one (finished May 1st) buuuuuttttt we’re gonna count it anyways. Close enough.
Pattern is the Kassiani Shawl by Dee O’Keefe. I absolutely loved it. Simple but lovely. An absolute joy to knit. It’s a good one for lace beginners since you get to try a few common motifs and the pattern is so clearly written. It’s also a nice knit for more advanced lace knitters because you can just zone out and go easily.
The yarn is Moondrake CO’s Soft Shawl MCN in “Orion”. It’s one of my favorite yarns and I already miss squishing it in my stash. Plus! I got to meet the dyer in person last year and she’s a delight. She’s a fellow OK resident, and all her color ways are just so so pretty.
